Well, it depends how little little ones are. I have ds whose 4 and am also at work part time so mark mornings (while dh sees to ds) before work and early evening (while dh sees to ds...) and patches during the day when I get a moment. Supportive dh very useful
TBH, after about four hours or so a day, your brain gets fried anyway and you have to stop, otherwise you give them all random As or Us...

lucyellensmum · 06/07/2007 21:20

that does sound quite good, im definately interested. Do you find it fits in around the little ones well? I probably would have a couple of hours in the day (if i can keep off MN!!) and a couple of hours in the evening.

slayerette · 06/07/2007 18:06

duchesse, you're showing me up

slayerette · 06/07/2007 18:05

I get paid £4 something a paper, so the pay's not bad at all! This year DH has said I can have it to spend on clothes I can average between 3 and 4 papers an hour but English is a bugger to mark in terms of how long it takes!

duchesse · 06/07/2007 11:27

3,900 words down. Some need rework, but onwards!!!

lucyellensmum · 05/07/2007 22:03

thanks slayer, at uni the phd students would mark assignments but not exam papers. I will definately look into this though. Totally crass question, does it pay well? well reasonable even

slayerette · 05/07/2007 17:37

lucyellensmum - no, I don't think you do. At my moderation meeting (I mark A2), I was sitting next to a PhD student - not even finished his doctorate yet - so I think university graduates are what they require. I would definitely contact the exam boards and enquire!

Duchesse but also - you are being very efficient!

duchesse · 05/07/2007 17:24

do you have to be a qualified teacher?

lucyellensmum · 05/07/2007 17:19

slayrette, i am SAHM, ive just got my PhD in biochemistry, i did some marking while i was doing this but they dont send out their exams for marking.

slayerette · 05/07/2007 17:10

I'm an English teacher and applied to become an Assistant Examiner - great poncey title - by contacting the exam board I now mark for. You can contact whichever board you're interested in marking for direct and they'll send you an application form - can't remember if it's subject-specific or generic. You'll need to specify what level you want to mark and which papers you'd be interested in doing. If you wanted to mark SATs, I think you'd have to get in touch with QCA but our school doesn't do them so I'm not sure how they work.

What do you do at the mo?

lucyellensmum · 05/07/2007 17:04

slayerette, what do you do, i should like (well within reason) a job marking scripts, how can i get into this?

slayerette · 05/07/2007 16:59

Mwahahahahaha!

15 papers today - that's 30 essays

So - only 370 essays to go

Oh bugger

duchesse · 04/07/2007 21:04

In fact, you were prob knitting your own as a diversionary activity, Katy, no? I applaud you!

Did do some more, but I shall have to pick up the tempo a little tomorrow...

4,986 words by Friday afternoon Duchesse.

Yes I "worked" all the rest of the day. I am so morally fibrous I am practically muesli.

slayerette · 04/07/2007 17:55

I marked a paper or two. Then went to friend's house with ds for the afternoon where we ate - yep - jammy dodgers...

duchesse · 04/07/2007 13:35

I have just done some work!

OP posts:
duchesse · 04/07/2007 13:12

Just.one.last....dozen...

please?

I said Please!

Aw, go on. Don't be a meanie.

OP posts:
slayerette · 04/07/2007 13:07

Right: I'm going to switch the tv off (or over to tennis for men in white shorts), chivvy ds upstairs to do some 'independent play' or whatever the term is for when you want them to bugger off for a bit, and mark AT LEAST 3 papers before it's time to take him round to his friends this pm.

Ok.

I'm off.

Right now.

Duchesse, I can see you trying to hang on to the biscuit tin.

flibbertyjibbet · 04/07/2007 12:55

Me also supposed to be working, emailing my website link round to potential clients.
But my breadmaker just pinged so I'm off for a warm crust with butter on it...

Really must get off mn and get emailing. But hey have a browse on the Princess Diana thread, that'll stretch your deadlines!
This afternoon do doubt I will be having yet another frustrated hour trying to establish a picture trail of my very cheap items, which is really stupid as all the items together if sold probably come to less than an hours paid work if I got my finger out!!!!

duchesse · 04/07/2007 12:53

Kathyis6inches- are you displaying moral fibre? You're very quiet- you must really have gone to do some work.

OP posts:
duchesse · 04/07/2007 12:52

Loveangel- you've eaten, you've drunk, you've wasted as much time as you can afford to waste today, now GET ON WITH THAT WRITING!

Slayerette; I daren't add up how many words I spew out on here. Plus the blog. Plus comments on other people's... Yikes.

OP posts:
slayerette · 04/07/2007 12:48

Don't forget those guests on Saturday. That's about 1,600 words a day between now and then.

That's about what I type on MN

LoveAngel · 04/07/2007 12:48

I'm supposed to be finishing a piece of writing this morning (I'm on a deadline). So far I have:

...made 2 cups of coffee, a cup of tea, 2 rounds of raisin toast

...had a long conversation with my mum about house prices

...posted on almost every thread in the 'Chat' section of MN, including one about Cod (have broken a self imposed rule that I will never join pointless threads about Cod, unless its of the breaded-and-served-with-a-wedge-of-lemon variety)

...updated my Facebook, adding pointless applications I will never use

...looked for last minute holidays in sunnier climes in August

...browsed for new lingerie online...

...'tracked my fertility' using an online ovulation predictor

...written about 200 words.

Fuck.

duchesse · 04/07/2007 12:41

Slayerette 400 essays to mark.

Don't mind if I do too.
