Totally agree with the idea that women control their own lives and have the power to control their own environment. This argument is the same as the working mother/home mother debate. Women should have the right to chose how they live their lives and not be vilified for either choice.

There has always been plenty of exploitation of women's bodies to sell things.

Have skimmed this long thread and see no mention of Clare Short who famously conducted a campaign against p 3 of the Sun and was treated to a hate campaign against her by the tabloids.

The answer is, not to read the tabloids, not to watch tv that offends you, and graffiti on sexist posters.- EG there was once a poster of a nearly naked glamorous woman sporting thigh high boots. Under the image some one had written This Ad Exploits Women! and some one else had added This Ad Exploits Boots.

Exploitation of women's sexuality has happened since time immemorial - certainly all my lifetime. Nothing new about it.

I find it to be the other way around most of the time. I find younger people get discrimenated against because older people have this stereotype about young people being stupid and not knowing anything.

In relation to the models and dancers , I don't think anyone ( for the most part ) is forcing these women into anything. Why does feminism constantly judge women when their choices aren't what they want them to be. Hypocrits

man reportor asks what the female tennis player is wearing, tennis player giggles and says wait and see.

If the tennis player had answered about tennis, then women would be asked about their tennis. But because that tennis player chose to answer about clothes, it makes the question okay. IE women dont fight it, and men get the "power" by default.

Also, women are not the big % buyers of FHM and Maxim, but for every bloke magazine, there will be 10 womens mags with better sales.

We are not the ones buying the magazines no but we are the ones doing the critasizing and the labelling, which is the thing we are trying to stop.

With ref to buying a car - I get the TopGear Magazine and the only naked items in there are the cars, so at least men can buy a car without feeling like they need to wake up their little solider as well

I am afraid it has become acceptable again to objectify women in this way and many women, sadly, fall for all that stuff about how it's because women are now free and have economic power.

When I hear those silly girls talking how working in a lap dancing club makes them feel really empowered and liberated, it depresses me. And reminds me of nothing so much as the women who choose to wear the entirely body covering niqab or burqa. They also say it's liberating and empowering.

Both of these sets women are assuming that ther bodies and their sexuality is all that there is to them. One wants to show everyone that she is nothing but a set of boobs and a fanny so gets up on a podium the better to display their wares. The other assumes everyone else sees her as a pair of boobs and a fanny so reacts to that by hiding under a huge tent.

Possibly lucky, but I think I put it down to the way I was raised. My biological father was violent, my mum remarried a few years later. Even though she was remarried (to the guy I have always called dad) she really taught us that women are strong, that we should fight for what we want, that we dont need men to validate us etc etc.

I'm lucky where I work - I work for the largest employer in my city (excluding government) and there are a hell of a lot of women in top jobs there.

I do remember being around eleven years old ( oh, eons ago) and being friendly with a ten year old girl and her five year old brother across the street- their granny bought the sun and made the children spit on the page three girl.

there has always been an objectification of women in society. what there hasn't always been is such strong female role models to counteract that - we now have a female home secretary ( lord knows that example may come back to bite me on the ass) martha jones - (bear with me) and hermione granger - good solid sensible young women who use their intelligence to win the day ( yes, they're fictional... so what? my children prefer imagination to real life most of the time) I don't necessarily think things are any worse right now, other than the gratuitousness of tabloid press and music videos.

for every pair of pumped up slightly lop-sided DD's my boys might accidentally happen across whilst trying to find cbbc on the tv, they're countered by a whip smart martha or hermoine or hillary clinton. their pre pubescent mini libidos don't get the tits and flange yet - but they've already got the mind set of a strong female role model to counteract that

Well isn't it the women in this thread that are endlessly objectfieing about what some women do?

But if people stopped playing up to that sterotype, then it would stop.
If women answered about tennis not their outfits etc etc then they would stop being asked.

I really feel that women give men too much power. They dont have it, we seem to give it. IYSWIM!
