to acknowledge receipt of a parcel of stuff I sent not only free, but didn't even ask for postage cos I thought they would be grateful??

its only a week, and there has been floods over a lot of the country.

I know that when I get things taken to the depot, I can only pick them up during the weekend.

Will give her time to perhaps have to go to depotas it was too big for letter box and she might not have been able to get out.

No, are you sure the parcel has arrived? I know that once I didn't acknowledge receipt as I was a bit overwhelmed with the preparation of a trip for which the parcel had been sent. BUT... I brought a gift for her DD and send it to her when I sent back the thing she has lent me.

Any possibility of something like that happening?

perhaps, but was posted at beginning of week and all other items posted on same day have had acknowledgements...
