no problem with namechanging in itself - just when you do it with the express purpose of upsetting people and getting away with it because nobody knows who you are.

You know. Every time people talk about trolls, I remember a song my mum used to sing to me and my sister at night.

After a story, she used to sing - I don't remember it all, just this bit

I'm a big bad troll and I'm mean
I don't mean maybe
I'm a big bad troll and I'm mean
You better believe it (growl out the word you)
I'm a big bad troll and I'm mean (draw out the 'i'm mean' for a big finish)

As I recall, she had to stand up while singing it, walk backwards out of the room (still singing it) and finish the last line as she got to the door at the same time as doing a big razamatazzy waving of her hands as she belted out the last line.

If she didn't, I wouldn't sleep.

Thank you Squonk - I've name changed a couple of times - but have always admitted it, hope that doesn't make me a troll - don;t like the sound of that!

there is an acronym list (see useful stuff under active convos etc)
but BLW = baby led weaning

quint - a troll is someone who (normally namechanges) and posts controversial comments in order to get everyone riled and worked up.

cat64 - BLW is Baby Led Weaning - where you don't actually feed your toddler, you let them help themselves or something

I've never heard of the term troll before, I've asked several times on MN and still no-one has answered so I'm still none the wiser.

Just asked DH and he hasn't heard of it either so yes YABU

I didn't know what a troll was either till mumsnet ( aaprt from the 3 billy goats gruuff one and i don't think that counts!!!)

I haven't been on an internet forum before, and am unlikely to develop this, ahem, practice. I am not entirely sure waht a troll is or defined by, though am aware of some behavioural traits. IS this a 'real' concern Twiglet??

I bet my DH doesn't know what a troll is in internet terms. He has never been on a forum site, and rarely uses the internet other than for news and sport updates.

If you can, not only, say what a troll is but can spot one at a hundred paces, you clearly need to get out more!
