I saw a boy at the junior school gates this morning with both ears pierced - and some lovely diamonte studs. Very sparkly.

Just to clarify what I've missed.. toy23 are you dyslexic, and working class?

I agree with divastrops last post having a look around the forum i have noticed there is a lot of genralisation about working class people.Why is it you have the right to judge people on there classes and not on there races or culture.

Her original observation was in fact spot on. IMO, many babies with pierced ears come from less well educated parents who know no better. They believe that it looks 'pretty' for a 6 month old to have sparkly diamonds in her ears regardless of the fact that it will hurt the child to have them done.

As someone said earlier in the thread, would you tattoo your 6 month old cos it looks 'pretty'? Not much different IMO, both involve sharpe objects and both leave permanent scarring.

let me make a sweeping generalisation for you: all young mums bottle feed, pierce their babies' ears, make them wear stiff denim, and play music out loud on their mobiles.

their children are also far more likely to be under-educated, end up with juvenile criminal records and end up as young parents themselves.

Over here mums take their newborns to a room in the hospital where they pierce their ears before they leave (normally 2 days old). Not sure whether they´d do a boys ears though! Personally I don´t like the look of earrings on a baby (was 14 when had mine done) and would make any daughter of mine wait until she was a teenager.

ok, you'll notice i didn't say all people who have their babies' ears pierced are of a certain level of society. many are. they're the same people who sit on the bus and play music out loud on their mobile phones. it's not classist. it's an observation.

I'm University educated. I live in an affluent area of the country. My husband and I both have good jobs, as do all my family. My child has pierced ears. As mentioned in previous post - through tradition.

If you think (those of you whom are of this opinion) that makes me a 'certain level' of society, then so be it. I feel sorry for those people who are obviously so very blinkered and judgemental of others.

I'm with Happy Daddy on his views here. There are plenty of other parenting issues to worry besides pierced ears.

Grrrr about the grammar dyslexia does not just cause spelling mystakes it can affect all aspecs of english depending on seerverty of it.
