To be annoyed at people in large 4X4 pickups to complain that parking spaces too small

Aitch's Wanker's pals all live in my street.

Can anyone advise me?
I have one child, but I have noticed for nearly 6 years now that he justs keeps getting bigger and bigger.
I am also getting a bit bigger, not as quickly as my DS, but I have increased by two clothes sizes since he was born.
Do I need a 4x4?

But I like taking my shit-covered Landrover to London occasionally (about once every 5 years) because it shames all the shiny 4x4s - they lower their headlights and creep off down alleys, thoroughly belitted by the sight of their genuine, hard-working, fit, toned and smelly country cousin. And when they discover it can even grow mushrooms in the mud in the boot they weep with despair at their trivial and unfulfilled lives.

I think there should be a big wall around the cities, and the 4x4 drivers have to stop at border control, leave their 4x4s there, and then catch a bus. Bit like park and ride, but with more of a russian border control feel to it.

the ones round where i live don't have mud on them, let's just say. some guy, a really rich architect, has one of those pickups that the ad has children's toys wetting their pants over. never seen it dirty or with stuff in the back. it takes up two parking spaces on an already crowded street. the one upside is that he tends to use his other car because he knows that if he moves the pickup he'll never get it parked again. mind you, he is a Colossal Wanker.

I know what mentality your talking about, the drivers who buy big expensive 4x4s to do the school run in etc. My dp really isn't one of them. His jeep cost him £5500 which when you think of the price of cars is fairy cheap, it's a year 2000 modal too so it's not all brand new and fancy. He's only had it a couple of months cause he used to drive a really old 1993 modal jeep which he used till it was hangin', so it's really not about having the latest, trendiest car. He has one because he needs it,not to look good.

I have a 4x4 and it is the exact same width and length of my previous midsize sedan. I had to measure the 4x4 before buying it to see if it would fit in the garage and the only difference in size was the height. So I don't take up more room on the road although my big fat a*se probably takes up more of the seat

This is exactly what's happened in many US cities, Aitch - with greater than 50% of the vehicles on the road now being 4x4s.

it's not just about that, though. in fact i think that some 4x4s have better emissions etc than some people carriers, to be honest. and someone, i think clutteredup, made the point earlier that her car was smaller than a galaxy.

it's the mentality that's the problem, i feel. the more these cars become fashion accessories (which is waht they are in a city, let's be honest) the more of them will appear. and the fact that some aren't so bad in terms of emmissions etc will cease to be relevant because Everyone will have one, regardless. that's why i can't be bothered with the argument 'i did my research and the model i chose is okay etc etc'. by participating in the trend you make it worse for everyone, you should have chosen another car... it's just A Bad Day for Society, that's all.

The thing is though if you do need a 4x4 for reasons Boco has mentioned and it is your only car you will need to drive it in urban areas albeit from time to time so I guess you'll never be able to ban them.

My dp's jeep is a diesel and he gets 50% more miles from it then you would a petrol. Plus most people don't think of the cars engine size, they just assume that because the cars big, the engines big which is not always the case.

I have already explained why my dp has a jeep, mainly because he doesn't fit in a small car comfortably.

and expat, i know it'll never happen as it represents an assault on people's civil liberty to be selfish and stoopid (mind you, they said that about smoking) but i really do agree with you. people from the country would be allowed passports, though.

I think they should be banned in cities. I really do. Because otherwise they'll just proliferate.
