to really struggle with the school run, how does your morning look?

I snooze from 7.20 until 7.40 whilst DH gives breakfast. I will help with getting DC aged 4 dressed and sorted then DH does school run at 8.30 whilst I attempt to wake up.

If DH is working I will get up at 7.30 and struggle to get moving. Similar routine except I walk to school and feel embarrassed to walk to school with no makeup and hair shot in a bobble.

Even if I go to bed earlier amd get up earlier I really struggle to be alert before 9am

Are you going to drip feed an illness? Otherwise you just do it. You work out how long things take and you get up early enough to do it. No one enjoys it.

Prep the night before helps massively. Shower and do your hair. Lay your clothes out and DC's clothes out. Sort packed lunches and check school bags. Make sure the kitchen is clean enough to get breakfast sorted.

My alarm goes off at 6.30am. I wallow a bit. Up at 6.45am and spend 15mins having a quick freshen up, getting dressed, teeth and putting on minimal make up (cc cream, mascara, cream blush). Run a brush through my hair (clean and straightened night before).

7ish get 3 DC up. I've then got 90mins to leisurely get them fed, ready and out the door. Some days DH will do the school run so the younger DC aren't dragged out. It depends on work. Either way we're all up and ready.

DS2 woke at 2.30am this morning (he's 2).

I usually get up at 6am, breakfast, get ready, get boys ready, pile into car for. 7.15 and drop at childminder's 7.30. She does the school run.

I'm in work (school) by 7.40, which is later than I'd like and puts me under pressure.

I can never understand people failing to cope when they've got so little pressure in their work lives.

My morning 3 days a week when working is up at 5.40am. Wash, dress, make up, hair then get DD4 up at 6.15am to get ready at the speed of a snail . 6.45am get DS2 up and get him ready. 7.20am leave the house for nursery/school club and then work.

Other 2 days a week are same except no school club so up at 7am and leave for school at 8.35am. Have to fit breakfast in on those days too.

I don't think anyone loves getting up early but it just has to be done

Afraid you need to get up earlier, my eldest (10) has always been an early riser and 6am is a late wake up for her, so I’m used to it now. Took me a while but now I’m up at 6, showered and dressed, breakfast for my 2 dc, sarnies made the night before then leave for school at 8.15. It just takes practice dragging yourself out of bed

happypoobum · 09/11/2018 21:51

You need to go to bed earlier and do it for a long time so you get into a proper routine - 21 days should do it.

What time do you go to bed usually?

I am in bed by 10 on a school night and get up at 6.15am, fully refreshed after 8 hours sleep.

ScrumpyBetty · 09/11/2018 21:51

I'm up at 6am. Walk dog for 1 hour.
DH leaves house at 7 so I get DS up and do breakfast, get himself and myself ready, we leave the house 8.15.
Bags packed and lunches made the night before. It's routine and we are used to it.
Your morning sounds fairly easy, at least your DH helps out!

I ve recently had to start doing the school run after dh taking full responsibility as a sahd for the last 4 years!! we leave between 8.30 and 8.40. I get up at 7.30, have coffee, make breakfast for the dc, make their lunch while they eat this. I wash up breakfast stuff and give them their uniforms (all lined up for the week on a Sunday including pants and socks). I prompt them to get ready while I have a shower, get dressed and do my hair and make up then give them their 10 minute warning for hair, teeth and shoes. Then i have a tidy round before we go, it's pretty much stress free it's all about giving yourself enough time and doing what you can the night before!

I hate getting up in the morning but the DC have to go to school so you just get on with it. Who cares if you aren’t wearing make up.

tor8181 · 09/11/2018 21:50

we dont have a school run as they are home educate but we go to sleep anything between 6-8am as both are disabled and one of their disabilities is bad sleeping

we then wake up when ever our body naturally wakes up then starts our day

Drycleanonly7 · 09/11/2018 21:49

7.30am would be too late for us to fit everything in get to his school on time. We are both up by 7am. Breakfast together. Dresses himself. He is 4. I wash. Do his teeth and then leave the house at 8.30.

ileclerc · 09/11/2018 21:48

Get up earlier so you have more time to get going. I have to get up at 5.50. I don't do it for fun. I just have to get on with it.

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 09/11/2018 21:45

Really doesn't sound like you're pulling your weight here.

You chose to have kids. Get up. That's life

Sunnysidegold · 09/11/2018 21:45

Me up at 6.30, shower do hair make up get dressed. Wake 6 and 8 year old at 7. Hound them to get dressed and brush teeth. Downstairs 7.20. I fire stuff in lunch boxes and have breakfast. Kids feed cats run ago I d looking for lost shoes and coats while i lose the will to live. Put door at 7.45, drop them to breakfast club and I'm in work about 8.05. I hate mornings. But I hate bedtime more

WhatKatyDidnt · 09/11/2018 21:43

Erm, how you look on the school run doesn’t really matter. I am very envious of what sounds like a lovely relaxed life tbh!

SausageSimon · 09/11/2018 21:39

I struggle and only work part time, I just can't seem to get up lately!! You're not alone 😄

MumOnTheFun · 09/11/2018 21:37

I used to have a career and struggled with early starts at Uni and then work days. I now have some part-time projects I can pick and choose when I work (one being our business) so no real routine which is a blessing and a curse for my motivation!

I start work at 6:30 most mornings. I just have to get on with it. I don't like getting up early but it needs to be done! Having a shower in the morning helps me a lot, could you try that?

CleanTheFeckingMicrowave · 09/11/2018 21:35

You need to just suck it up and be completely prepped the night before.

Ohyesiam · 09/11/2018 21:34

Even if you don’t feel more awake, if you give yourself more time you can put on some makeup.

Monstersunderthebed · 09/11/2018 21:34

Do you work?
