to really struggle with the school run, how does your morning look?

I snooze from 7.20 until 7.40 whilst DH gives breakfast. I will help with getting DC aged 4 dressed and sorted then DH does school run at 8.30 whilst I attempt to wake up.

If DH is working I will get up at 7.30 and struggle to get moving. Similar routine except I walk to school and feel embarrassed to walk to school with no makeup and hair shot in a bobble.

Even if I go to bed earlier amd get up earlier I really struggle to be alert before 9am

I hate it too.
I'm just not a morning person especially at this time of year. But you just have to suck it up. I have four dc to get up and out of the door for 8.15 to be dropped off at various schools.
I love the weekends and school holidays!

SinglePringle · 09/11/2018 22:13

Get a Lumia clock.

Set it to start a good 45 mins before you really need to be up.

Get. Up.

OrigamiZoo · 09/11/2018 22:11

I am dreadful in the mornings. I find an alarm clock placed across the room so I have to get out of bed to stop it makes me get up.

TRY THIS - it tells you when to go to bed so you get up at the end of a sleep cycle

Allthewaves · 09/11/2018 22:08

I struggle to get up but I have to because there's only me

Racecardriver · 09/11/2018 22:06

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 09/11/2018 22:04

Is this a reverse??

Witchofwisteria · 09/11/2018 22:04

You stay in bed till 7.40am whilst your working husband does everything to get the kids ready? I'd of told you to piss right off especially if you are not even really working and effectively get 9am-3pm to chill at home on your own whilst your kids are at school.

Set your alarm and get up at 7am, if it takes you 1 hour to get alert you will be woken up by 8am in perfect time for school run.

It's really not rocket science now is it!

VintageFur · 09/11/2018 22:04

I'm curious as to what you regard an early night because quite frankly 7:40 as a mother of small children is ridiculous. Even if you were "getting by" on just 7.5 hours sleep you're still going to bed at midnight. That's not early.

6-7:30 shout "get in your own bed" "stop punching your brother" "stop banging/jumping/soaking the bathroom" "please let mummy have just one coffee before you start".

7:30 breakfast

8-8:25 shout get dressed, shoes on, no not those shoes - school shoes!, Why are you wearing your brother's trousers? Brush your teeth, no you ARE wearing a coat I don't care what the other kids wear.

8:25 they leave for the bus

8:35 I assume they're on it

SavoyCabbage · 09/11/2018 22:04

I've got a Lumie alarm clock, which has really helped me with my waking up.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/11/2018 22:03

I'm dreadful in the morning so I get up earlier than I need to so that my brain has time to get into gear. A nice slow shower helps.

jarhead123 · 09/11/2018 22:03

You get up late!

I am up 6.45am, coffee/wake up til 7.15am.

Get dressed/make up. Prep breakfast. Kids are downstairs eating by 7.45am. Do lunches, kids do teeth etc. Tv on, diaries signed. Sort washing out, dishwasher etc.

Out 8.20am

Aroundtheworldandback · 09/11/2018 22:03

I’m loving my light at the end of the tunnel. Last dc just started uni and early mornings are a thing of the past. Something to look forward to!

Miscible · 09/11/2018 22:02

Who on earth needs to put on make up for the school run?

DeathByMascara · 09/11/2018 22:02

Dh: out of house, washed & dressed by 5:30
Me: up at 6:40 to shower;
Get 6 yo up for shower & get stressed;
Wash & dress 2 yo
Downstairs by 7:10
Feed kids breakfast
Pack lunchboxes for me & kids
Have dispensed with make up (part of me weeps for the old me, but mostly I enjoy the freedom)
7:30 rally the troops to get shoes and coats on
7:40 out of the house to drop kids at childminder/breakfast club
8:10 arrive at work

I am permanently exhausted. But I have to get on with it. I would so dearly love someone else to take over the morning routine for me, or even have the chance to have a couple of hours to myself. But it's not to be.

Mammamooch · 09/11/2018 22:01

When does dh get to "snooze" then?

sevenwallflowers · 09/11/2018 21:59

I struggled before having kids but now I just get up and get on with it. We are all out of the house by 7:30am

triwarrior · 09/11/2018 21:58

So your husband works FT and also gets the kids fed and does the school run - while you struggle to get out of bed by 7:30? He must love you dearly - I certainly wouldn't be indulging that kind of behavior!!

Howhot · 09/11/2018 21:58

I'm not a morning person but when you have kids you just have to get on with it. Just get up and go. I never have my make up or hair done for the school run, it really doesn't matter. If you only have one DC it should be easy.

StartingAgain1 · 09/11/2018 21:57

6.30am baby has milk, then I shower
7am wake up 6 year old, she gets dressed while I dress baby
7.20am 6 year old has breakfast, bit of tv, I do my make up and hair in this time
8.15am I yell about 20 times for shoes to be put on then we leave
Lunchboxes and bags are done the night before, I hang her uniform up on her door.
I agree it doesn't sound like you are pulling your weight, you need to prep everything the night before if you struggle to get moving.

enoughisenough2 · 09/11/2018 21:57

Get up at 7 at least... shower then start your day

2anddone · 09/11/2018 21:56

My alarm goes off at 6.30. I am up, showered dressed and cup of tea made by 7.
At 7 I wake the dc, ds has breakfast while I hoover the downstairs, he then goes upstairs and gets showered and dressed for school.
7.30 the children I look after arrive.
7.45 breakfast for me, dd and mindees
7.50 ds leaves for school bus
8 dd goes upstairs to get dressed
8.15 tidy time then the mindees get dressed.
8.25 shoes, coats and out the door if walking (10mins extra play if it's bad weather and we are driving)
8.40 arrive at school
8.45 school opens
It's very military but it works for us!

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 09/11/2018 21:55

Is the tiredness a recent thing? Might be worth getting your iron levels checked and anything else- if it’s unusual for you.

Otherwise I’m afraid you do just have to work out a routine and stick to it.

I have two primary school age kids and my routine is:

Night before, shoes, coats and bags by the door ready to go

DH leaves for work at 7.00 usually

On my work days:
I get up at 7.00, unload dishwasher, put washing on, shower, get dressed, make kids breakfast, make elder DC snack for school, help younger DC get dressed, make sure house is tidy, leave at 8.45.

Non work days I get up a little later and sort all the housework out after the school run.

KindergartenKop · 09/11/2018 21:55

My kids need to be out of the house by 8 25 and need an hour to get ready. So I need to be in the shower by 7 10.
Nobody likes getting up, I think you're taking the piss a bit to expect DH to do the Lion's share in the morning if you are a sahm.

QueenofmyPrinces · 09/11/2018 21:55

Two children, a 14 month old and a 4 year old.

Up at 6.30am and DH takes the children downstairs whilst I get showered, dressed and make-up on. I then go downstairs with the children whilst DH has a shower.

He leaves for work at 7am and I get the children their breakfasts and have mine too. We then head back upstairs where I get the 14 month old dressed first and then I get the 4 year old washed and dressed in his uniform.

By 8am we are all sorted and we just chill out for 20 minutes before we leave for the walk to the school.

It pretty much runs like clockwork and is relatively stress free.
