i had an msn conversation with someone who i consider a good friend yesterday. it was about veg and i told her we use frozen. i also said im not sure what a broad bean is. we never had them when i was a child and i dont buy them now.

anyway just clicked onto a site and there she is telling everyone i buy frozen and dont know what a broad bean is. someone else said that if i didnt know what a broad bean was then i cant be feeding my son properly!

this friend has met my son and knows hes healthy and well fed yet totally agreed with this person.
im fuming and shaking that she can take a private conversation and post it on the web and also she has willingly agreed with someone that my son isnt well fed.

lolol at fornen beans

janeite · 17/06/2007 18:43

I love broad beans but certainly don't feel they are essential for a healthy diet. And 99% of the time I buy them frozen not fresh.

Your "friend" sounds like she's not very confident about her own parenting skills and therefore she needs to put down others to make herself look better.

sniff · 17/06/2007 18:28

I hate broad beans to and swede and marrow therefore my kids havn't had them

they look ok on it though

I dont feed them baked beans either I really hate them

I think people that moan about other peoples parenting skills fo no reason have problems themselves and are usually trying to make themselves feel better about something

I would have her as an ex friend to be honest ompetitive perent in my experince is never very helpful

unknownrebelbang · 17/06/2007 18:28

This isn't the sort of conversation I have with friends on MSN.

(I don't like broad beans either, lol)

katwith3kittens · 17/06/2007 18:19

I grew some broad beans last summer and we were innundated with the things for months. Even the pet rabbits wouldnt touch them after a while. Trust me, nether you or your LO is missing anything !

theUrbanDryad · 17/06/2007 18:01

broad beans.....

dh loves them so i buy small tins so he can have them sometimes.

tigermoth - has-bean. ugh.

Pixiefish · 17/06/2007 13:38

Stwnsh ffa- mmmmmmm

BB mashed with potatoes and smothered in ketchup- yum

Am actually growing my own this year as well

Judy1234 · 17/06/2007 13:34

dd, that's the point - it's just chance in life whether you've come across something or not. i remember broad beans although we refused to eat them as children, as my mother grew them on her allotment.

Pixiefish · 17/06/2007 13:32

Tell her to go boil her head with her broad beans.

Personally I love BB but there are other veg I don't eat or prepare.

Bit stupid of her to post that knowing you use the forum

goldenwings · 17/06/2007 13:30

well dps home and hes very disappointed in her. i showed him exactly what she posted and hes gone ape. he said it wouldnt be so bad if she had never met our son but she has and knows hes not undernourished. also just because she can afford to buy fresh and eats it before it goes bad doesnt mean she should look down her nose at those who buy frozen.

well im going to cook my frozen veggies now and yes im even gonna feed some to my son. WHIP MY ARSE NOW lol

How awful. Frozen can be better fo ryou than fresh as everybody knows so she's also ignorant and there are lots of words I've never heard of. We only know what we've heard about. My 22 year old daughter was laughing that I had never bought humus or whatever it is and I still don't know how to say it.

tigermoth · 17/06/2007 12:41

As your friend, she's a hasbean!

I can totally see why you are upset at her disloyalty and stupidity. You both use the same parenting site! She has gor virtual realily and real life muddled up.

You say this has changed you. I can see why. In your shoes there is no way I'd want to trust this friend with any more personal details about my life for her to report and possibly distort on the internet for all to see. It might be a trivial issue in the grand scheme of things, but who's to say she won't do something more serious.

goldenwings · 17/06/2007 12:35

he throws his toast on the floor lol.
not to sound up myself but hes always been fab with his food and loves his veggies. he absolutly adores mashed swede and carrot and potatos although strangly he hates sprouts lol this is the similar look he gives me when trying to feed him a brussell.

sorry to appear stupid and undernurished what is a broad bean??

ghosty · 17/06/2007 12:25

"Broad beans are the food of Satan" ... Yay, let's vote for Doodle to be the next prime minister so she can ban broad beans ...
They are rank and I am gagging at the thought of them

FFS, your DS is only 8 months ... [rolls eyes] - he's probably only chucking it all on the floor anyway ...

schnapps · 17/06/2007 12:20

I agree, post a link to the thread, and we can go on there and support you without her knowing what you've told us

Jennylee · 17/06/2007 12:19

you need to let her know that is a shit thing to do and some poeple never eat broad beans i last had them at my granny's house as a child, horrible.

and frozen veg is fine.

alicet · 17/06/2007 12:17

Your dc is doing better than mine with veg so you sound like you're doing a great job! I have to hide it in other things before he will eat it!

Can understand why you're hurt and upset but try and ignore her - her life must be really empty if she has nothing better to do than bad mouth a good friend to fill her time. Agree with other posters that might be worth posting something to make her look silly though - but hard to get it right and not look like you're having a hissy fit. Perhaps just post the link that frozen veg are just as nutritious as fresh (if not more so) and that if she is so clearly worried about your dc's nutrition perhaps she could tell you to your face rather than posting it on a public forum first?

duchesse · 17/06/2007 12:17

Peas and beans and sweetcorn especially are better frozen than fresh, as the sugars in them start to turn to starch as soon as they leave the plant. If frozen within a couple of hours, they are actually much much nicer than "fresh" from the supermarket. I speak as one who grows her own veg.

That said, your issue is not peas and beans. I'd say that this woman is not a friend, and that furthermore she may not have enough in her life to worry about if she needs to report private conversations in a bitchy way. If she really worth keeping?

akaJamiesMum · 17/06/2007 12:12

Can't believe so many people dislike broad beans. I love em. Now celery - that really is the work of the devil.

Trained dieticians have told me, when I was researching an article on this, the same thing about frozen and indeed tinned veg.

goldenwings · 17/06/2007 12:06

lol thank you ladies. im so glad i found MN i feel better now. i wont post the link though as surprisingly im getting back up from a lot of the posters on there.

we all want to do the best for our children and we dont need slating about our choices especially from 'friends' dp is going to go nutty when he gets in. his boy is his life and he will not have people slating our parenting. also we were going to drive up north to visit her family at the weekend. somehow i dont think that will happen.
