unless its a dire emergency? we have an 8 month old and really dont want to babysit after 8pm as it usually means having to drive to my friends house as its to far to walk however our friends are now being funny with us because we refuse t look after their children when they go for a not out.

its not because we are nasty but because dp works 7 days and has tobe up at 6:15am they dont get in until gone midnight.also it mean our son cant settle and it throws his sleep out of whack.

these aren;t friends, darling, these are users !

goldenwings · 14/06/2007 21:27

erm we dont get anything out of it. not even a fiver for petrol which i think is unfair because sometimes dp has to pick them up.

i think what really did it was the day got out of hospital a few weeks ago (i collapsed and it was discovered i had an ovarian cyst) i told my friend and she wanted me to sit the next day.

tbh since ive been saying no to sitting (dp is insisting i take it easy) ive not really spoke to her. except when she wants a sitter.

I don't understand why you are being unfair? They don't have a right to expect you to babysit. There is no way I would be doing this with an 8 month old - he comes first - not these people. They should understand that now you have a child things are different.

Why not explain that you don't want to disrupt ds's routine too much and that you are only willing to babysit on rare occasions.

newlifenewname · 14/06/2007 21:24

Well I wouildn't babysit at all apart from if they had an emergency or something or on a rare occasion when they just desperately needed some time out. Even then, I'd expect the same in return.

Bugger the 8pm issue. you are gaining nothing here.

lulumama · 14/06/2007 21:23

how odd !! we baby sit for friends, who sit for us in return..or i pay a babysitter !!

you have a little one, your DH needs sleep...not unreasonable at all

and if they are being rude and ungrateful, then i;d leave it ! let them find free babysitting elsewhere

Katymac · 14/06/2007 21:22

What do you get out of it?

goldenwings · 14/06/2007 21:20

no weve never been paid and theyve never looked after my son at night.

i was wondering if i was being unfair on them.
