to not want to babysit after 8pm

unless its a dire emergency? we have an 8 month old and really dont want to babysit after 8pm as it usually means having to drive to my friends house as its to far to walk however our friends are now being funny with us because we refuse t look after their children when they go for a not out.

its not because we are nasty but because dp works 7 days and has tobe up at 6:15am they dont get in until gone midnight.also it mean our son cant settle and it throws his sleep out of whack.

I belong to a babysitting circle so it is by definition a reciprocal arrangement.

nannynick · 17/06/2007 08:56

Can't work out why you babysit your friends child at all... you don't seem to be getting anything back in return.

So tell your friend... NO you can't babysit. Suggest to them that they get a professional babysitter in to care for their children when they go out at night. I babysit , and I can often not be back until 1am or even later!

tribpot · 15/06/2007 19:03

goldenwings, if you do want to babysit for someone, please feel free to come round to mine - I might even spring for a fiver for the petrol

Congratulations on kicking these people to the kerb.

goldenwings · 15/06/2007 19:01

well thank you so much for your replies.

they havent bothered with us so im not going to bother with them. i dont want to be taken for a mug anymore.

i agree with other posters - you are not being unreasonable

if you are sad to let go of the friendship, why dont you ask her to babysit and see what she says? if she can't, then you can say 'it is probably easier now if we pay for babysitters' or something similar so she doesn't ask again?

Bouncingturtle · 15/06/2007 12:00

Just in case you need a little more validation, they are being totally unreasonable. I'm that your dp actually goes to pick them up and they don't even offer petrol money. They are taking you for a ride. And if the only time they contact you is to ask you to sit, well, keep turning them down and eventually they'll get the message. You don't need friends like that.

GameGirly · 15/06/2007 11:32

Goldenwings, they are SOOOOOO not friends. Believe me. Be strong. Just say NO!

kel4mum · 15/06/2007 11:30

GameGirly · 15/06/2007 11:17

kel4mum · 14/06/2007 22:49

Was the enermy forum you were called Bounty?
Ive noticed that a lot of new mners were orignally on Bounty and had said that they have revamped and its now crap.

webchick · 14/06/2007 22:44

I think you should find some new friends. If anyone asks you to sit just say no! You have your own life with your baby and husband

goldenwings · 14/06/2007 22:35

Hear hear, Moony.

Yes, you can use the F word here, try not to use it to tell a MNer to F**K off and you should be ok.

Where were you before here ?? [nosey emoticon]

goldenwings · 14/06/2007 22:17

Hello goldenwings

moondog · 14/06/2007 21:47

You know the answer.
Tell 'em to FUCK oFF.

tribpot · 14/06/2007 21:45

How very odd, why on earth do they expect that of you? Never mind 8 p.m., why should you babysit their children at all whilst they go out?

lulumama · 14/06/2007 21:36

friendship has to be two way, cannot be all take on one side

friends do outgrow each other

goldenwings · 14/06/2007 21:34

i think in my heart i know the answer but ive known her for 6 years and i know time to end the friendship as i cant give anymore.

i guess i just wanted reassurance you know.

I think you know the answer - you're not being unreasonable and she's not a friend. Concentrate on your lovely baby and forget about them!
