You are being completely and utterly unreasonable.

As if the wrapping matters!

He's turning one, he'll probably be most interested in the box anyway!

At least he HAS a present, as others have said it's the thought that counts, not the wrapping paper.

bookwormmum · 11/06/2007 17:29

Yes - kids just rip the paper off. At least he's got a gift to unwrap.

haarpsichordcarrier · 11/06/2007 17:27

dear god you ARE being TOTALLY unreasonable.
and unreasonable. and meanminded
my mum never used to use wrapping paper for the very good reason that it is a total rip off and I am not all that scarred tbh.

Feck me, I thought it was the thought that counted (oh and the present inside)..

I have been known to send cards and presents a few days late! I have wrapped presents up in DD drawings! and used pritstick!

So I am crap at present giving - doesn't mean I don't care or haven't made an effort, just means that I have no idea where my wrapping paper that I bought 2 months ago is, or that I can't find any selotape..

So shot me!

NKF · 11/06/2007 17:25

That was meant to read busyness. And even that spelling looks wrong.
.

Blu · 11/06/2007 17:24

I think it is a bit horrible of you to be thinking this way, tbh.

I can understand it more for children who have b'days v close to christmas, and it's important to give them a b'day celebration distinct from Xmas, But it's just wrapping paper. you are being mean minded criticising.

NKF · 11/06/2007 17:24

She could have used Christmas paper for any number of reasons. Businesess, environmental consciousness, temporary blindness due to lost contact lenses. Anything. But surely the least likely reason would be a desire to make you cross.

fannyannie · 11/06/2007 17:22

I wouldn't be peeved at all - infact I'll be the first (I think) to admit that I've done it myself. It was actually an August birthday, we had (literally) no money, but I'd got a few 'spare' presents around the house so was thankful that DS1 could take a present to his friends birthday party. However, we had no birthday wrapping paper at all, but plenty of Christmas paper left over (I tend to buy the rolls and keep left over for folliwng years) rather than spend money we didn't have I wrapped it in the Christmas paper - nothing was said - apart from thankyou for the present.

Mumpbump · 11/06/2007 17:22

If they're like me, they probably thought they had birthday type wrapping paper at home so didn't buy any, then discovered they didn't have any and only had Xmas paper so wrapped it up in that so they could get it in the post/to you in time. I wouldn't worry about it, personally. It's the thought that counts.

sugarfree · 11/06/2007 17:20

YABTU.
(and you sound a little ungrateful too.)

NKF · 11/06/2007 17:19

Why are you peeved by the way?

kittylette · 11/06/2007 17:19

I wouldn't say anything to someone who did it, but i could never do it myself!

OP posts:
Blu · 11/06/2007 17:18

It is not worth the slightest moment of upset.
Just be gracious and appreciate the present, and the thought behind the present.

Eddas · 11/06/2007 17:15

My FIL gave us our wedding gift in farmyard paper IIRC

At least he's got a pressie, was it from a man? Sorry any men out there but usually women are quite precious about things like using the 'right' paper

cece · 11/06/2007 17:15

I gave a present at the weekend... wrapped in brown parcel paper and decorated with felt tips by DD. Very disorgansied and thought I had some paper but no... It was that or christmas paper....

NKF · 11/06/2007 17:14

I wouldn't mind if someone gave me a present wrapped in Christmas paper.

WigWamBam · 11/06/2007 17:11

Your son won't give two hoots about paper and bows and pretty ribbons. He'll only tear it to pieces, when all said and done.

At least they bought him a present ... if they hadn't bothered, maybe there would have been cause for complaint.

kslatts · 11/06/2007 17:11

I wouldn't mind if someone sent my dd's a birthday present in xmas paper, but I would never use xmas paper to wrap up someone's birthday present.

NKF · 11/06/2007 17:10

But even if he did notice, he wouldn't be peeved would he? You'd just think "oh look it's Christmas paper" and open the present.

belgo · 11/06/2007 17:09

oh yes would be annoyed at winnie the poo wrapping paper

kittylette · 11/06/2007 17:09

Yeah I am,

but maybe Im judging others by my standards, i like bows & ribbons and pretty paper - paper appropriate to the occasion!

OP posts:
belgo · 11/06/2007 17:09

yabu. He won't notice. At least they made the effort to get him a present on time.

tortoiseSHELL · 11/06/2007 17:08

I've used xmas wrapping paper for birthdays all day round - the kids don't care. The reason is generally that we've got loads left over from xmas and I forget to get any birthday in time, or think we've got some and we don't. Figure it's more important to get the present wrapped and delivered.

NKF · 11/06/2007 17:07

Are you peeved?
