yabu - at least he got a present! One of my friends has a rule that if you don't see the child on their birthday they don't get a present. I have bought presents for both her children every year

glad you have a place to vent. honestly. to me life is too short to worry about the picture on wrapping paper but we're all different.

I once worked in an office where present giving was the norm. My colleagues gave beautifully presented gifts. Trying to match their efforts really stressed me out.

So to all those present givers who do fancy wrapping, bear in mind that the recipient may feel burdened by your efforts and not particularly grateful.

A friend of mine recieved a wedding present (in may) covered in xmas paper - now that is unreasonable!

I don't think it would worry me too much as ds birthday is january and he has had crimbo paper more than once. Does seem odd in June though, I would have to go into the loft to fetch it!

My brother does this and I am so annoyed with myself for how cross it makes me. Yes, you are being unreasonable - but them so am I! We must try to rise above it and concentrate on the bigger picture!

There could be all sorts of sensible reasons for doing it - but if I had to do it, I'd put in a jokey note to explain why I'd done it.

it's not a big deal in the grand sheme of things - they may have wanted to get it in the post and not be late, and that's all they had, or couldn't manage to get to shops to buy what you might consider appropriate wrapping paper

Anyway, I suspect this is your fist child and their first birthday and you just want perfection for your DLO. I can understand that.
On the other hand, he is only 1 as others have said, he does have a pressie and will only rip the paper off and play with the box.
Generally I wrap presents in tissue papper all year round with feathers, buttons, shells,kids drawings etc, as do others, it does avoid the need to get the right paper for the right occassion. Went to a house warming party a few weeks ago, couldnt find sellotape anywhere so used a cord tie back from the box waiting to go to the charity shop, looked lovely IMHO.
Just enjoy yout DLO and forget all this stuff, it can eat you up if your not careful and get out of proportion.

PS DH just me a birthday card that I had bought for a friend of mine's birthday in a few weeks, and got DS to do the same, sigh.... Still at least I thought they were really tasteful

I wrap my sister and mums birthday pressies up in Christmas paper, their birthday's are on the 23rd of December though and they do get seperate gifts for birthday and Christmas. I wouldn't do it in June though, then again a 1yr old aint gonna know!

only slightly unreasonable but then it's your prerogative how you feel and at least you're letting off your annoyance here rather than with who sent it as they did send a present.

there's plenty of relatives that don't even bother with presents in some families. he'll just be happy he has a shape to rip the wrapping paper off.

i agree with yaddayah we make all Christmas cards and most birthday/special occassion cards and often make the wrapping paper too. i LOVE it! - not sure if everyone did with all the glitter used one CHristams!! people said they were hovering it up for months lol

i actually prefer handmade (ie childrens drawing on brown/white paper) i thought thats why dd's nursery sends her home with so much stuff ! We always make birthday cards too .. all the children I know seem to prefer them as they're more personal

Not only did his present from grandparents come in christmas wrapping paper - it had Dear C Merry Christmas love from J & M* written on it.

My gripe was that DS can read the message not the wrapping paper

YABU. It is the thought that counts, why should they have to go out and buy overpriced birthday paper when they have perfectly adequate wrapping paper in the house already? It will only get chucked in the bin anyway.

I confess, I have used chrismas paper once for a birthday!
It's all I had in the house and I honestly was not going to shop just for that when I had so much to do at home, anyway...at least I got a the child a gift lol
