None of her business if you've got weeds growing near her fence. Your garden, your weeds. However, you probably should try to clear the ivy. As someone else said, it will destroy the fence eventually and, if it's her fence, she'd have to pay to replace it. This happened to my parents (who are now not very friendly with their neighbour!).

Who cod? Me? No she did it to her own house. I do look over the fence from time to time. Often to spot where DS's ball has disappeared in the long grass. Actually it is quite handy her not being around, because I can just let DS wander round to retrieve his ball without worrying about it bothering her.

lol at Bozza's incredibly helpful neighbour. Perhaps we should send your neighbour Bozza round to Maisym's to help out a bit. Especially with the nice candles in pots touch.

Hmm as far as I know she is not pg with four kids so probably not maisym. I know because I was out in my garden and could hear everything. And my 3yo went and sat on the top of her slide and started asking me questions about all the activity in the loud, clear tones.

Oh god you've all gone away, and I'm left up to my elbows in weeds in maisym's garden, smiling brightly at difficult lady over the fence, trying to work out what might be a summer car and what a winter one. Are they different colours, shapes? Is one a soft top?

Well she has two cars. A golf and a softop toyota. So when the weather got nice (was while we were at legoland last week) she turned up and got the toyota out of the garage and dumped the golf on the drive. We believe she is shacked up with her bloke somewhere, hence her never being around.

The time before that (was about 6 weeks ago) she turned up on the Thursday evening with her fella, spent ages cutting the grass, mending the fence, sticking candles in pots, had a barbecue/party on the Saturday and then disappeared off on the Sunday.

Bozza - while we're waiting, can we discuss the winter / summer cars thing? Is it a bit like handbags then?

Yes, come back maisym and elucidate. We're a bit worried.

I think the answer is in the vagueness of the OP and the next post my maisym TBH.

My neighbour has not been home for 3 weeks (other than briefly to swap from winter to summer cars ). So her grass is knee high and her weeds are waist high. AIBU to consider chucking my slugs and snails over the fence to have a go at all this verdant greenery?

The neighbour does for sure, but maismy? We're not so sure if she's on top of her garden at all.

Yes, we think the neighbour might polish her grass at night. Maisym hasn't responded to my question about her being a confident gardener though. Perhaps she's out peering over fence at neighbours garden?

Dh & I are planning to plant a few big patches of wildflowers at the bottom of the garden. We usually pull out the worst of the weeds but I really don't see the problem with having a few weeds here & there & I do think the neighbour's being a bit anal about it.

Well she might mighn't she? She might sit out every night and idly wonder what those big plants on her lawn are, the ones with the huge leaves and nice yellow flowers at the top, and hang on a minute, aren't they the same ones which had those lovely fly-away white heads not so long ago.

Greebos, yes you're right, and we now know neighbour out every day in her bleedin garden, so might be pleased to have something to do, I suppose?

Because how if maisym is sitting out admiring the bind weed, thinking it a most unusual plant and exotic and fab etc, when really she should be pulling the bugger up?

But she is going to get a hell of a lot more if maisym's garden is full of weeds. And we should assume that maisy's DH is not pregnant and therefore could do the weeding.

Personally I would not have said anything however.

ahundredtimes - the neighbour can pull up weeds creeping under the fence herself. Most seeds are airborne anyway so she's gonna get weeds in her garden regardless of whether maisym has a few growing near the fence.

Don't see why she can't just pull up weeds that grow in her garden. Ivy is a bugger, may pull the fence down in the end, so worth getting rid, esp. as it is her fence. My mother's neighbour planted ivy against my mother's outbuilding at the end of the garden some years ago. Building had to be knocked down a few months ago as ivy had destroyed roof and back wall.
