Would you be upset if your DH forgot your birthday?

Because I am, and I am annoyed at myself for getting upset. I wish I could just shrug it off, but it has made me feel unappreciated.

mother2b · 01/06/2007 10:35

BTW happy birthday for wed, (sorry its late only just seen this thread)

mother2b · 01/06/2007 10:34

my birthday is 9 days before DPs so if he forget mine i forget his (this threat works, he hasnt forgotten yet(although he did forget Valentines day one year until the day before, and it made hime worry so much he threw up ))

nannytania · 30/05/2007 22:32

Being pissed off about that is not at all unreasonable. Birthdays should always be remembered.

Let him know too - you are not overreacting.

Happy birthday though!!

poppy34 · 30/05/2007 22:23

less upset -more murderous

weebleswobble · 30/05/2007 17:05

Upset??? I'd engrave it on his tombstone!

Aufish · 30/05/2007 17:01

Mine has no choice but remember as it was his yesterday! We go out and buy our birthday presents the weekend before hand so then its not forgotton.

aquababe · 30/05/2007 17:00

no unreasonable and a card doesn't take that much effort.

During our premarriage interview my dh got my date of birth wrong (as well as most of the other info)I have since spent the five years of our marriage hammering into his head I like nice birthdays and the date(he's just about there). I reckon it's how they spot illegall marriages when the dh can remember all the details about his wife

twelveyeargap · 30/05/2007 16:47

Depends on the man. My DH was about 19 before he could remember his OWN date of birth. I'm not kidding - his family can attest to this. I know what he's like so I remind him.

My own mother "forgot" my 18th birthday, in that she thought I was born a year later and thought I was 17 that year and just sent me a "regular" card and didn't realise until I told her about the celebrations I'd had.

I'd be miffed for sure, but these things happen. Don't take it to heart too much. It's not a "deal-breaker", IMO.

AnneJones · 30/05/2007 16:45

Calendar next to the fridge, with birthday in HUGE letters, surrounded by a big star shape helps.

gscrym · 30/05/2007 16:43

I genuinely believe that if DH's birthday wasn't 2 days before mine, he wouldn't remember.

AnneJones · 30/05/2007 16:42

YANBU. I would be furious. But then I am such a child about birthdays I mention it several times a day for the weeks leading to my birthday! I make a fuss of DH so woe betide him not to do the same for me.

Celebrating birthdays is a lovely way to say "I love you and I am thinking of you" but also a great excuse for carving out some QT for you and your partner or for the whole family to be together doing something special.

Hope you have a wonderful day & that your DP comes up with the goods. x

potoroo · 30/05/2007 14:02

DH would definitely forget if I didn't remind him. But I do remind him (lots) and then he'll do something.

Then again, I am the same

This year we both bought each other anniversary cards on the way home from work because we both forgot...

We also tend to buy our own presents for the same reason - not romantic but it works for us.

i would be peed off too. it's my birthday today too so happy birthday from a fellow gemini!

fairyjay · 30/05/2007 13:47

I'm afraid his next birthday would be very definitely forgotten!

MadamePlatypus · 30/05/2007 13:44

Yes, but then I would also be worried that he had some kind of short term memory loss problem as I look forward to it more now (almost) than when I was a child, so he gets lots of reminders.

seamonster · 30/05/2007 13:43

Mine forgot my b'day once.

Never again though.

casbie · 30/05/2007 13:33

yep - if i don't get at least a card i will go into a major strop!

americantrish · 30/05/2007 13:30

We avoid this situation in our househo;d because we always remind each other, tbh I'm the one who always forgets the date so am the most likely to forget dh's birthday than the other way round.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 30/05/2007 11:43

Mrs Weasley, think I saw a flying pig out of the window just then.......

He ain't got me nuffink - but then we never do birthday presents for me - they are a waste of time and money. I only wanted him to wish me happy birthday - it wasn't a test, I just thought he would remember on the day. I haven't been mentioning it because I didn't want anyone at work to know - they like to make a big fuss and I just find it embarassing. (DH and I work together)

I would be upset, but would enjoy him making it up to me.
