Why are some families so loud!!

Why are some families so loud? I mean why do yet have to shout when speaking to each other and generally have no regard for others? We’re staying in a lovely quiet self catering house in south devon, there is a large garden and shared pool with two other cottages. The people in the middle cottage are like us, a family of four, enjoying themselves, having fun but not shouting at the top of their lungs. Family in end cottage, three pasty kids singing loudly, screaming, unable to have a quiet conversation.

It’s the same in restaurants, we’re always sitting next to the loudest people in there 😂😂

God help me! AIBU and a grouchy old cow?

I think this is getting more and more common (and "common") people shouting at each other or speaking REALLY loudly. I can't stand it and hear myself muttering to myself on a daily basis "shut the fuck up"

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 21/07/2018 22:00

This is why my family always lived / holidayed at the end of a dirt track in the middle of nowhere. Blush

At least we are considerate, loud people...

I would also say that we aren't really intentionally loud, we just have, erm, 'carrying' voices and think that we are far more interesting than anyone else in our family and therefore try to talk over them while they try to do the same to us.

SandyFagina · 21/07/2018 21:51

I think you're considerably richer than them OP

NicoAndTheNiners · 21/07/2018 21:50

I left Next today because of the music volume in the changing rooms, was like a bloody nightclub. I almost complained as I left but decided maybe I’m just a grumpy old cow.

CeridwensCottage · 21/07/2018 21:46

I find people to be very brash nowadays. Music volume in shops is increasing as well. It used to be low key muzac type stuff, but now it dominates.

Childlessstepmum15 · 21/07/2018 21:43

It’s a sign of disrespect and lack of manners and awareness of others. Everyone has the choice some just choose not to exercise it.

Loud people who consider themselves to be oh so jolly and exuberant might remember that others around them might find the noise stressful or they might be in poor health and need some peace and quiet. Nobody expect others to be as quiet as mice, but it is very rude and inconsiderate to be so loud, particularly during the night or by playing loud music everywhere.

When I was on holiday in wales recently, there was a group of extremely loud, excitable people walking down the high street towards the castle. Passers by were 😮 and stopped to watch, they were that loud. They were Americans and lived up to their reputation 😂 their poor tour guide was having a hell of a time trying to herd them into the castle.

rainbowstardrops · 21/07/2018 21:16

I don't care if people are 'naturally' loud or not.
It's common courtesy to respect people around you.

HeresMe · 21/07/2018 20:41

I find it wierd that loads of people are happy they are loud like it's a badge of honour.

Try living next door to you(I dont)

Respect your neighbours and try not to be too loud otherwise you might be the scumbag neighbour posted about on a future thread on here.

NicoAndTheNiners · 21/07/2018 20:32

One of my neighbours is also a total foghorn especially when on the phone. It’s like a Dom Joly sketch, not helped by the fact he seems to conduct all phone conversations in the garden. Me and dd know the gruesome details of his testical issues now. Shock

Childlessstepmum15 · 21/07/2018 20:23

@OKMaybeNot - yes the more the merrier. I'll invite the pasty's in too for pasties, but no showing off that you're tanned and they aren't.

OkMaybeNot · 21/07/2018 20:21

My kids shout, but they're a lovely brown colour, so can we come for dinner?

Childlessstepmum15 · 21/07/2018 20:18

Sorry I disappeared, I went and hid in the kitchen to feed my own less loud family. I have nothing against people enjoying themselves, as long as they're not spoiling others enjoyment for 10 hours a day!

As for pasty, not the food variety, sorry my annoyance at them turned into a mild criticism. I'm so glad I stopped short of my first thoughts, i'd have been hung out to dry by the mumsnet police!

Nothing worse than the show off mum in the supermarket/school run/wherever, talking loudly to child so everyone can hear about how "they must promise to do well in your Oxford entrance exam (aged 6)" or "darling would you like distilled horribly expensive sparkling water or just distilled horribly expensive still", either way look how horribly important we all are.

My family give my husband really and anxiety Grin

We’re loud. 14 people in one house growing up so you can imagine the noise. My husband is an only child who was also very neglected so meeting my family was a huge culture shock for him.

Our kids have taken after me Grin

Tortycat · 21/07/2018 20:08

I struggle with noisy people so YADNBU. Me, DH, and dc1 are quiet. Then Dc2 came along and his voice is lovely but so loud and clear. We were walking along recently and i realised we'd become a loud family as the rest of us were shouting to be heard over dc2. The horror!!

drspouse · 21/07/2018 20:03

Yeah, we don't have music on, the TV is never loud, and normal conversations aren't loud.
But DS is horrendously impulsive (SEN) so even if he's trying to be quiet he forgets and shouts.
DD is 4 and a drama queen (we went to a party today and she was crying her eyes out because the big boys were being mean - we saw them run past and shout to each other but no more than that)
And DH and I sadly are not immune to getting wound up.
Ironically DH has a very quiet voice normally!

lovestuck · 21/07/2018 19:56

My husband is so loud. He just plays loud and gets the kids so overexcited all the time. But they love it.

Stop being so judgemental.

I'm on the other end very quiet and cuddly with the kids. We're all different

CocoaGin70 · 21/07/2018 19:46

We've got neighbours like this OP. They've always got music on.... loudly. Gardening, in the garage, sat outside, cleaning cars..... boom boom boom. They've constantly got visitors...... who are either shouting in the garden over the boom boom boom or beeping their horns goodbye. And they love having BBQs that go on until 2/3am..... and guess what, their guests get louder and louder with the drink and so does the boom boom boom. The poor lady that lives behind them is tearing her hair out..... she's been very unwell with heart problems and she's finding it hard to deal with. She can't sit outside or have a window open as their patio backs onto the neighbours. I genuinely don't think they have a clue about how much noise they are constantly making. I'm all for enjoying the summer and your home but this is incessant.

CreamCol0uredP0nies · 21/07/2018 19:42

The first time we went camping was the first time we realised how loud our oldest son was - voice like a foghorn.
Thankfully he’s learned to control it but he’s brilliant if you need to get someone’s attention. He can really project !
Can’t stand inconsiderate, needless shouting though.

We have friends known as The Whispering Family and that can be equally challenging especially in the car with them.
We used to do a lift share to school and my kids would find it really stressful as they couldn’t hear a word my friend and her children were saying.
My children were constantly demanding hearing tests as a result.

rainbowstardrops · 21/07/2018 19:24

Noisy people absolutely rile me stupid!
It's called COMMON COURTESY people!!!!

I'm all for people having fun and stuff but I have ALWAYS told my kids to keep the noise down because not everyone wants to listen to them.

I'm looking at you neighbours 👀😡

TheFairyCaravan · 21/07/2018 19:23

Noisy familes ruined our holiday in Menorca in June. We specifically chose that hotel because we went last year and it was quiet. It would have been this year too had it not have been for about 5 families. It was all too much for them to lift their arses off a sun lounger and actually walk to their kids in the pool who were screeching and shouting at the top of their voices. If that wasn’t enough one family would play football at midnight in the corridor outside our room while the mother shouted “SSSHHHHHH” at the top of her lungs. It was like being on holiday with my sister and her family but I choose not to spend time with them.

It’s so bloody selfish.

gamerwidow · 21/07/2018 19:21

Sometimes people are just loud and they don't even realise. We have a woman at work like this and it used to wind me up but now I've got to know her I can see she's not doing it on purpose and would be mortified if she thought she'd been disturbing my work.

Others know full well they're being loud and disturbing the peace but they're selfish and think that they have the right to enjoy themselves whether it inconveniences others or not.

When you are in close proximity to other people you need to be aware of how your actions affect others a bit so that everyone has a good time.

auditqueen · 21/07/2018 19:13

I live in the West Country and read "pasty" as pastie (ie the food). 😜😂😂

PoisonousSmurf · 21/07/2018 19:12

We had 'torture family' above us in a hotel attached to a pub in Betws-y-Coed in Wales a few years ago.
Creaky floorboards and one of them would pace up and down from 3am until 7am EVERY single day!
We couldn't move as they were fully booked and noisy family didn't want to move.
I could have cried!

mantlepiece · 21/07/2018 19:09

Oh noisy people are so annoying!

I really feel your pain OP, especially as you are on holiday. It’s not just the noise it’s hearing the detail of their lives as well as the bad language.

Noisy people have noisy children as well, nightmare.
