to hate the word "poorly"??

Just hate it. Its not a real word, its a made up one. Whats wrong with saying "ill"?

Isn't it colloquially derived from "doing poorly"?

Poorly is an adverb masquerading as an adjective.

Wrong, wrong, sooooooo wrong!

For similar reasons one does not feel "hungrily" or "energetically," one feels hungry, or energetic.

Much prefer to hear proper usage of parts of speech: "I feel unwell, ill, sick, under the weather..."

I rather like the world poorly and also the world "Shabby".

But the word I hate most of all is vagina. Why do blokes get willy/cock/knob/bollocks ... all pleasant, cheerful words, and we get vagina.

I don't like belly either! It would be impossible to have a belly unless it was bloated and hairy.

I don't like it but it makes me laugh. It sounds like baby talk to me.

Once at school in Australia, a little English girl joined my class and said in her posh (we thought) voice "Miss, I feel poorly", and we all POSL. Which was very mean of course (we were 6 and 7 year olds, in our defence), but I always think of that little girl when I hear someone say it.

Even more annoying (to me - obv not everyone agrees!) is
"I have a poorly cough"
"DD is poorly sick"
"DS has a poorly sore knee"

huh???
