in hating "of" instead of "have"

Yes, it just really irritates me. Because I read it as "of" and then it makes no sense

It's not, it's poor English. Saying it is a colloquialism, and I say it all the time, but I write 'HAVE'.

I don't think it's a colloquialism. I think it is people not pronouncing it properly and as such not realising that the correct word is have.

yes but many people write in the same way they speak, they know it's not grammatically correct, but really, in the grand scheme of things...does it matter if someone commits a grammar faux pas??

A lot of people say "Should've", which makes it sound like "should of ".

not at all. it's so annoying but then i find "f" instead of "th" in speech annoying eg fank you

Loathe it. Not a colloquialism or regionalism - just people's ignorance of the origin of what they are saying. Just like "Haitch".
