speak for yourself, beeyatch.

welliemum · 13/05/2007 21:57

I suspect that people start an AIBU thread because they're feeling angry and adversarial, and others are responding to that - in other words, that the feelings are there already.

Don't think anythign is going to stop the petty quarrels, sadly. It will only happen when people learn to walk away - and some people will never learn that.

CaptainUnderpants · 13/05/2007 21:54

Agree with Welliemum.

AIBU can brighten up a dull day and lighten things up abit when sometimes other threads are a bit depressing and sad especailly the last week .

welliemum · 13/05/2007 21:52

Oh, I agree about the longhand - it's much more interesting when people actually discuss the thread topic.

But people were posting AIBU threads long before the topic was set up and my guess is that if the AIBU topic is towed out to sea and sunk they'll continue to do so, and will continue to be outraged when they post a simple question and get a simple answer.

MrMariella · 13/05/2007 21:50

"I think AIBU is a great topic, and the best thing about it is people being told YABU and being outraged because they somehow didn't expect this "

Wellie, well that's partly it with AIBU.

The whole set up is an adversarial one, as compared with Chat titles. It invites a "for or against" adoption of positions.

Having been away, one of the things I didn't miss was the quarrelsomeness of ALOT of threads. I have contributed to it previously, I admit, but I'd like to think over important stuff, not looking ot pick fights, or add to them, on the weakest of reasons. If I have been "difficult and rude with someone, I have apologised almost immediately and profusely, and felt bad about myself for doing it. Too much these days there are insults and the like flying around with impunity. I, for one, am not used to being treated like that.

Francis indicates a feeling that the AIBU experience has been a bad one IN THE SENSE that the adversarial nature of it has had a malign influence beyond their own thread borders (??).

I agree. This place doesn't need any more 'encouragement' to quarrel.

All, in my exceedingly humble opinion....

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 21:48

as a general point then, i agree with you rhubarb.

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 21:47

welliemum, the issue with AIBU for me is that it's a closed question, so pretty boring. YA or AN, iyksim? and it is attritional, as has been demonstrated often. whereas if people were posting long hand, as it were, it would just be more interesting. plus, i think that the people who are told YABU really don't like it and get upset by it.

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:45

moved on Aitch @ 21.33hrs

Rhubarb · 13/05/2007 21:45

Because as far as Lily's topic is concerned, it has been dealt with.

But I think it raises a good general point about threads started taking the piss out of other threads. It's not the first time it has happened and has caused upset and it won't be the last either.

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 21:44

lol!

Londonmamma · 13/05/2007 21:42

How come I always seem to post after Aitch who'll tell me 'it's all been dealt with LM, move on now'!!!

welliemum · 13/05/2007 21:41

I just don't GET this.

If you find a topic annoying.... don't go there.

If you find a thread annoying........ don't read it.

If you find a poster annoying........ ignore them.

WHAT is the point of starting a thread about it

I think AIBU is a great topic, and the best thing about it is people being told YABU and being outraged because they somehow didn't expect this
