I suppose you wouldn't believe in emotional problems which can lead to problems with money? Is that a lot of ole' bolleaux?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/05/2007 20:35

The title was a tongue-in-cheek response to Aitch's 'people shouldn't get their bank charges back' thread. Re-opening it a day later has made it somewhat irrelevant. But do please carry on if you like.

KathyMCMLXXII · 10/05/2007 19:42

"actually this is one of those crappy 'cool' topics again that we should really have grown out of "

agree with Twiglett.

Twiglett · 10/05/2007 19:36

yes we are .. big family weekend GDG or I'd have tried to arrange to meet up

am already experiencing the frisson of terror at the thought of keeping my cool in front of entire extended family .. it'll never happen .. it hasn't yet

unknownrebelbang · 10/05/2007 18:05

wot twig said throughout.

(Except I will not be on the M1 and M6 tomorrow, although DH may well be).

And I won't be going to Manchester.

Gobbledigook · 10/05/2007 18:02

Oooh Twig, are you coming ooop north?!

I'm not boring, honest guv!

I could not, however, sleep at night if I was in debt and spending money I didn't have. No way, I would be stressed to the eyeballs - no thanks.

Twiglett · 10/05/2007 18:01

manchester ..

chocolateteapot · 10/05/2007 17:59

I think finally age 37 and a half I have got to grips with this financial stuff and hope to be very boring indeed because I can see it's a damn sight less stressful. The credit card is being paid off this month and will never again be used if it can't be paid off when the bill is due, I don't need to worry about paying for the car tax & MOT when it's due in August, there will have enough money for Christmas & birthdays, and if the boiler blows up it won't be a complete disaster. So boring it may be but I am really looking forward to getting rid of the stress that being in debt causes.

crunchie · 10/05/2007 17:51

Depends what you mean by responsible?? Do you mean it is boring to live within your means, or is it boring to have a savings account, or is it boring not to own a pile of crap and have high credit card bills??

I am not sure what you mean by boring.

I have a pension, a mortgage, shares, savings, kids savings, ofset mortgage against said savings, I read the money section of the gaurdian sometimes, I pay all my bills by DD and have never had outrageous bank charges against me.

Am I boring??

Or how the f**k would youknow if I were??

So in a word your are being v v unreasonanle

OrmIrian · 10/05/2007 17:51

I think that being in the position where you have to worry about money is the most boring thing. So I try not to get there in the first place.

NoodleStroodle · 10/05/2007 17:50

Twiglett - I'm the same.
I can't stand this affleunza and shopping religon that is sweeping the country.

motherinferior · 10/05/2007 17:49

I am boring, but that's because I have children.

Ooopsydaisy · 10/05/2007 17:49

i might be boring but hopefully my kiddies will go to university, i will be able to help them buying a property and fingers crossed we will have a happy retirement.

call me boooooring anytime

Twiglett · 10/05/2007 17:49

I also appreciate there are many people who are responsible with their money who are still in debt through no fault of their own .. its tough to have bugger all money I know .. it is not of them I am talking by the way

just in its continuation of teenage 'cool' into the adult arena .. I find it slightly sad to be honest

it is not cool to be in debt
it is also not cool to not know whether or not you're living within your means

but that's just my viewpoint .. and I am patently boring because I take the time to give a toss

Well, we never said you were incapable of creative thought MI

(and at least I actually open my bank statements now, instead of recoiling from them in terror)

McDreamy · 10/05/2007 17:45

But do you know who has money and who hasn't? I mean if you went out shopping with a friend who bought something would you know if she was buying it on credit or with money that she had? I wouldn't for most of my friends. So surely there isno cool or uncool?!
