to find people that accept help from the cashier to pack their bags lazy??!

Too true ceolas. My sister lives in Texas with her family. We often go over and visit and they are falling over themselves to pack for us in Kroger's.

I found the "y'all have a great day" a bit smarmy at first but makes a change from some of the customer service skills I've encountered over here.

I wne shopping in Asda with my Canadian cousin a couple of years ago. He was shocked that we had to pack our own bags!

well I always accept help for packing when I've done a big shop on my own.
Its either that or get panicky because the items are going to fast for me to pack on my own, kids are mithering me and I feel like i'm going to faint as I'm breathless from being heavily pregnant.

So no its not laziness for many people.

Also till workers have to ask if you need help with your packing, I worked for sainsbury's for 3 years and they watch you to see if you do and then you get told off if you don't.

I look able-bodied but am in constant pain, it would be a great help to have someone help me pack - glad to know there are people judging that.

Perhaps I am just letting my foul mood get the better of me

Soap I would rather people gave me their bags for life or similar than using plastic carriers.

In NZ all but one supermarket pack your shopping for you - the tills are set up for it and it's impossible to do your own.

Except I take my recycling bags and then tell the 15 year old boy exactly which bag each thing goes into.

I don't see why you object to them packing customers' bags. I don't like having my bags packed as I don't drive so I prefer to pack my own in the best way for myself to carry them.

I was a bit put out as to how I should pack my bags when I did my first shop..no belt etc...then when the girl started packing I said "It's OK, I can do that" she lloked at me like I was mad & said "it's all part of the service"....

And the girls at my local Woolworths pack my bags beautifully!

I think you are being unreasonable, but it does depend on your perspective. Like a pp I come from Oz, where they do all the packing for you.

So I think the people who work in the supermarkets (ie the checkout chicks as we call them) are the lazy ones - they already do the scanning, how much harder is it to put the groceries in a bag rather than put it down on the "ramp" and let the customer pack?

sorry meant to add - if they do the packing - I can keep unloading the trolley, keep an eye on dd2, do my own chip and pin swiping and load the trolley - then when finished - get cash back (if needed) and docket and off I go.

as sherbert said - here in Aus they do it for you. As the have the packing bench thing right next to the scanner so no problem.

Last night I had a screaming babe and so not only did they pack, they loaded it into my trolley and a lovely fella came and wheeled trolley out to the car and loaded it for me - fabulous customer service.

And they don't care about reusable bags in fact they are welcomed. I did get strange looks at my reusable bags in the UK - I had some plastic ones for the cold stuff and then lovely cool fabric ones I had sewn.

I'm always asked if I want help! Sometimes I'm v v grateful and say yes please, but mostly I do myself

they pack your bags for you here (NZ) as a matter of course. I always stand there feeling vaguely lazy and strange, getting used to it now though (it is v.convenient).

Refuse to do a big shop with dh cos of his constant moaning & 'Are we not done yet?'

Well, unless your DS is busy falling asleep in the trolley so you have to stand there and cushion his head.

My dh and I visit the States about 3-4 times
a year (his parents live there) & the cashier will always pack your shopping for you.

I once offered to pack my own shopping & the young lad behind the counter looked as if I was an alien

In Britain i'll always pack myown shopping, cos for one I don't want broken eggs & two I will generally have a huge reusable tote bag to put it in.

Well you're not really being unreasonable, 'cos yep, it can be kinda lazy... but I admit to accepting help because I am lazy, pure and simple. And what's wrong with being lazy anyway? Let's hear it for being lazy!
