To insist my 5 yr old ds uses toilets in Halfords, when they say 'NO' due to insurance reasons?

In Halfords last night at 5.30pm. Dh was spending £400 on a new bike. Ds needs loo.

Spotty teenage staff say no, not insured blah blah blah.

I say OK, lets go outside. Ds says no I need a poo.

Staff say use pub next door. Ds getting more and more desperate. Poo is coming.

I say 'Let him use your toilet now or dh will not buy bike' (dh looks aghast)

I demand manager.

We get escorted to toilet, but only a one off.

What do you think?

some places it is a security issue as the toilets are often upstairs and through the stock room and a member of staff has to accompany a customer to make sure they don't nick anything (perhaps it is theft insurance that isn't covered)

the nice people in iceland let DD use their toilet a few times - only so they could hold new born DS while I was with his sister. Bit easier when he was older could use the wall in the alley round the back

DrNortherner · 08/05/2007 16:54

Quick update. They sent me £20 worth of vouchers and an email apologising. Apparantly public can use the staff loo's if the manager is willing to take responsibility, which eventually he did.

on a slightly different note, but same general idea, the people in felixtowe leisure centre let me bf in their office.
i was really touched that they let me, as they could have made me do it in the disabled loos or the cafe

SofiaAmes · 26/04/2007 07:18

Dd has never been able to hold her wee for very long. When she was younger and we still lived in the uk, she would quite happily pee right then and there if there wasn't a toilet handy. There was more than one occasion when a store clerk rued the day that they didn't heed my warning about dd's inability to hold her wee and her need for a toilet now and not one next door or down the street.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2007 10:21

I nominate Fio for line of the week with 'then they can go and shit somewhere else.'

DrNortherner · 25/04/2007 10:20

Yes, but make sure you go to the toilet first plaese.

at your dh reaction!

No i dont think you were being unreasonable, they are completely out of order tbh, as someone else said, my dd has been allowed to use toilets in all different shops with no problem (and just for a wee), including Next, united carpets..i could go on and on lol.

They are ridiculous imo.

oliveoil · 25/04/2007 10:20

ahhhhh, only child syndrome

Wotzsaname · 25/04/2007 10:19

no more lines, Virgos are very tidy, you can do your own neat lines can I still come?

DrNortherner · 25/04/2007 10:17

I am a Virgo (and an only child). I am right. Always.

Don't argue with me. And you must let me have teh last word.

And do not draw lines under my threads again. Understand ladies?

Wotzsaname · 25/04/2007 10:17

can I come to the pub?

expatinscotland · 25/04/2007 10:16

Pints and glasses of wine are good things .

oliveoil · 25/04/2007 10:15

oh, taking advice now are we?

rude, condescending beeeatch

DrNortherner · 25/04/2007 10:14

Yes Expat, i shall take your advice in the future.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2007 10:11

You'd have been much happier going next door the pub, getting the child sorted, and then ordering a large glass of wine.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 25/04/2007 10:11

(And the comment ab out my 7 year old was meant to be defending your 5 year old btw)

DrNortherner · 25/04/2007 10:11

Oh, OK Pecahy. Sorry.

Er Northerner- so was mine LOL! I was kidding!!

Wotzsaname · 25/04/2007 10:08

yea and I know where you all live [mad glare]

expatinscotland · 25/04/2007 10:05

I'd have used it as an excuse to go and drink a pint whilst the DH shopped for a bike.

BORING.

I'd rather drink.

oliveoil · 25/04/2007 10:04

you sound like Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver

you talkin to me? [mad glare]

have you a shaved head and a knife strapped to your leg?

Wotzsaname · 25/04/2007 10:03

I am wearing my hard tin hat today

DrNortherner · 25/04/2007 10:02

FFS Peachy.

My tongue was firmly in my cheek, as a comeback to some rather rude remarks made about me.

Can't believe a thread about a 5 yr old needing a poo has resulted to this.

Unique? Bugger off (and reduce that ego Northerner!) I can think of quite a few M-netters who completely ignore any comments even on their own thread! (Anyone trried having a decent discussion with Xenia??).

FWIW my 7.5 year old can't hold it in. He's Sn but that's irrelevent, as no toilet = no toilet. And therefore big problems. Loads of 5 year olds (esp. boys) aren't particualrl;y aware until its too late

DrNortherner · 25/04/2007 09:51

Wotzsaname, blimey, didn't realise my posts have been physco analysed by you all this time.

And if you find me unique on MN, then I'll take that as a compliment.
