To hate it that it gets so personal on here sometimes.

The majority of people on mn are very nice but i think it gets too personal sometimes when there is a debate going on. I just don't get how some just can't seem to voice opinions constuctivly without knocking someone down because then it seems to catch on and before you know it, some poor sole is getting insults left, right and centre.

I do wonder why mn isn't moderated better. I realise that lots of threads under different topics are started each day, but the ones that get nasty and personal are usually the very long threads that last days so shouldn't be that hard to seek out.

I do wonder though when someone is getting a thrashing in a debate, how that person must be feeling really. Then i wonder about the people who are typing the nasty stuff whether they would say the stuff to a persons face in real life. I doubt it because it's very easy to hide behind a keyboard.

Sorry this is long but the personal thing is the only thing that annoys me about mn.

That is rare though kks - and although I didn't see that particular thread, I can bet it was not with provocation.

Oblomov · 18/04/2007 15:14

Kks, people have mumsnet FRIENDS ??????? Shit, that's where i've been going wrong for the last 3 years

DearieMe · 18/04/2007 15:14

pmsl, expat, it is a totally old lady thing to say. i'm loving it as a nickname though.

kks, don't worry, it just takes time that's all. and in a way your name already lends itself to confusion as has already been demonstrated. what about something punchier?

kks · 18/04/2007 15:13

Yeah i am quite new on here. I just used the FE thing as an example of how she was told to f off.

What are your interests? As in real life, mumsnetters tend to congregate together around the subjects that interest them most.

EllieKthePA · 18/04/2007 15:12

you're still quite new here aren't you kks? and that really isn't a true account of the Fairy Edwards saga.
when MN gets personal ime it's always forgotten about fairly swiftly afterwards.

kks · 18/04/2007 15:12

I don't really know how you make friends on here cause most of the time my posts get egnored.

, Aitch.

DD1 says this all the time. I think she got it from her gran.

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2007 15:11

pmsl ar x-dearie mes, expat...

expatinscotland · 18/04/2007 15:11

Honestly, life is way, way to short to get upset by 'unfairness' on a website.

There are many millions of them out there.

We are all even free to start them as well, within legal parameters of course, so they are suited to our tastes.

kks · 18/04/2007 15:10

I just thought poor bitch though

You can't really come on here and expect to change the whole of mumsnet. There are some wonderful people on here - finding mumsnet and the support it offers has changed my life - but you do kind of have to take the rough with the smooth. Just avoid the controversial threads, find some mates, and you'll have a whale of a time .

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2007 15:10

dearie me, that is such a partial account of what happened to fairyedwards that it's making me laugh...

expatinscotland · 18/04/2007 15:09

Oh, dearie me, kks.

'FairyEdwards', FWIW, does little but start threads like this complaining about how bad MN is and threads getting personal with particular posters in the OP.

Okay.

GibbonInARibbon · 18/04/2007 15:09

FE has upset many people with her posts kks

kks · 18/04/2007 15:08

Last week someone on here, i think her name was fairyedwards, got a beating. She was told to f off and find another parenting site. I thought ok how would the people who told her to f off like it if their child was being insulted in school and the head teacher just said 'f off, go find another school'! They wouldn't like it so why should it be different on here?

kks · 18/04/2007 15:04

Dinosaur · 18/04/2007 15:04

The real ks would never say "lil" for little, Beety. She was an uber-grammarian!

Really miss her, actually.
