Fucking fireworks! There's really no need is there?

So this weekend, there were loads going off, sounded like a organised event. Dh was a bit pissed off, but I thought-Halloween party. Tonight-Sunday, there's been two similar, long drawn out events since it went dark.
My cat isn't bothered, but I know lots of animals and small kids will be upset by the loud noise (I've had to turn the TV up) We live in a market town with lots of stone houses, narrow yards and the sound just bounces from wall to wall.
So is it me being a miserable sod, or should they be controlled better than those?

Friends horse has aborted her foal. Shes found the foal dead in the field after the mare went into premature labour due to a firework display

Chattymummyhere · 29/10/2017 21:29

My dogs love them. They sit there in the garden or at the window watching them go off. My chickens don’t seem bothered in fact the emergency services sirens set them off but not fireworks.

RunningOutOfCharge · 29/10/2017 21:28

I have never heard of, or seen, an organised event for Diwali!?

Do they exist?

tigerdriverII · 29/10/2017 21:28

I love them and would watch them 365.

Mumof41987 · 29/10/2017 21:27

As a farmers wife I hate this time of year ! Our daisy cows and sheep become terrified . Also our working dogs become stressed on an evening when they go off ! There really is no need for them going off for weeks on end . One night I could understand and be prepared for how our animals will feel but when they go off for weeks on end and cause major trauma to animals, it's just not on

Ellybellyboo · 29/10/2017 21:21

we live near a couple of tourist attractions and we know when their events will be and we can manage those with him

Same here. During the summer there is at least 2 displays a week, plus other big events. I know when they are and can plan around them

It’s the random fireworks in people’s back gardens that I hate. Dog was trying to have a wee at the bottom of our garden earlier when the neighbour set a load off in his tiny back garden. Scared the shit out of him

OstentatiousWanking · 29/10/2017 21:19

It relentless here and has been for the last 4 weeks. My poor dog is fucking terrified and won't even go out for a walk during the day, as even then there are arseholes setting them off just cos they can. It will be like this until NYE.
It's awful watching her. She shakes and hyperventilates and desperately tries the find somewhere to hide.
I've tried everything to help her but nothing works.

ihatetosay · 29/10/2017 21:18

agree with Scrabble just awful for animals and just restrict it to one flipping night

PunkrockerGirl59 · 29/10/2017 21:15

YADNBU.
For the sheer terror that they cause animals they should be banned.
When I was growing up bonfire night was 5th November, regardless of what day of the week it was. So there was that one day in the year when we knew to keep our animals inside.
Now it's 3 weekends either side of bonfire night plus any old random day in between. Just fuck off you inconsiderate fuckwits.

katmarie · 29/10/2017 21:15

They send our Cairn Terrier demented with fear, the poor thing. And I wouldn't mind if we could plan for it, we live near a couple of tourist attractions and we know when their events will be and we can manage those with him, and keep him calm and distracted from them, or take him to my mums for the night. It's the odd bangs from people just buying them in the supermarket and setting them off whenever, that's what causes him (and thus us too) the huge amount of distress. I think they should be only available for licenced events, and I really strongly oppose them being sold to the general public.

HelenaDove · 29/10/2017 21:03

#stroke not stoke.

Hogtini · 29/10/2017 21:02

YADNBU. We had some going off at 2.00pm by us and our dog was beside himself. I wish people who had enough money to literally watch it go up up in smoke would pay for the diazepam I have to get off the vets. Keep it to organised displays. Anyone setting them off in daylight should not be in charge of explosives!

theaveragewife · 29/10/2017 21:01

I hate fireworks because last year my car was broken into amidst the masking sound of constant bangs.

HollaHolla · 29/10/2017 20:59

It's Diwali celebrations round where we are this weekend. There's been a big organised city centre display in our city tonight.

HelenaDove · 29/10/2017 20:56

Eve Sad Give your lovely dog a pet and a stoke from me Thanks

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 29/10/2017 20:55

We live rurally so don’t hear them very often. Some went off tonight though and scared the shit out of me. They sound just like gun shots and I always think a maniac is on the lose.Blush

exLtEveDallas · 29/10/2017 20:50

Last night, despite the Adapil plug and collar the MuttDog was shaking, frothing at the mouth and finally puked all over the sofa after 2 hours of fireworks 7-9.

Tonight she has spent the last hour shaking against me and is finally calming now that they’ve stopped (about 30 mins ago).

Tomorrow I’m going to see if our new vet will let us sedate her at home. Our old vet wouldn’t, and a couple of years ago we had to pay for a 2 night stay at the surgery for her because we honestly thought she was going to have a heart attack.

We live in a village. The school is having a firework display on Friday. We’ve planned for that, as we do every year. I take DD to the party and DH takes the dog for a drive (an hour up and down the motorway - bonkers but it works). We can’t plan for the public holding their own bloody displays.

So yeah, I’m a miserable bastard too, but with bloody good cause.

Bucketsandspoons · 29/10/2017 20:45

Hate the damn things. In the newer housing estates the yards are all tiny and back to back. People take no notice of the warnings or restriction, they let off the biggest most powerful ones they can with no responsibility taken for where it goes or what happens after it leaves their six foot square yard so long as they get their pretty sparkles and massive bang. On people's roofs, against windows, they land on cars, it's dangerous. Not to mention it's like living in the middle of the battle of the Somme for a solid month with the ruddy things going off from five pm to midnight. Cats, dogs, babies and toddlers, elderly people, people with Autism, people with PTSD, and many others find it a really miserable experience.

Need to be sold to organised displays only.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 29/10/2017 20:45

Ellybellyboo Those videos really work! I didn't think they would and I'm floored by my cat's reaction. Thank you for posting.

BamburyFuriou3 · 29/10/2017 20:44

My ASD DD1 hates fireworks, and dd2 is copying her sisters reaction to them, so both go to sleep in eardefenders which I have to gently remove once asleep. And this happen s every night from about now to January, or we get hours of wailing and sobbing etc.
It would be ok if there were a few organised events we could plan for, but it just random fireworks every night and random times...

Ontheboardwalk · 29/10/2017 20:42

It annoys me as bonfire night doesn't even fall midweek this year.

We've got an actual bonfire weekend this year!

HelenaDove · 29/10/2017 20:38

I suspect a lot of retailers know this damn well but profits come first.

DrKrogersfavouritepatient · 29/10/2017 20:37

YANBU
I do like a good fireworks display, but IMO fireworks should not be so freely available. Where I used to live there were frequent "lettings off" of fireworks and it's a PITA for pets and babies and anyone troubled by the sound of explosives.

willothewisp17 · 29/10/2017 20:28

I used to love fireworks, but now I have a five month old daughter who can be ridiculously hard to get to sleep 😂 I'm sure as she gets older I'll love them again!

Unnoticed · 29/10/2017 20:22

I have no objection a day or so either side of Bonfire Night, but it has been a nightmare where we are for the last couple of weeks and one of our poor dogs is terrified.

At work last night and they were firing rockets up and down the street. Idiots!
