In being upset about Easter?

Hayls · 08/04/2007 09:48

I made a big fuss over this easter as it's the first one we've spent at home since dd (3) was born (normally visit family). Made Easter cookies yesterday, helped dd decorate an Easter bonnet to wear today, made boiled eggs to decorate to roll down a hill somewhere, arranged days out for the weekend and bought easter eggs for everybody (including dh who has a milk allergy! and MIL who is visiting for the weekend). Have just made breakfast for everbody (inlcuding a boiled egg for dd in her new princess egg cup ) but dh hasn't even bought me a creme egg .

So aibu in getting wound up about this or is it just life?

We didn't even buy dd an egg this year. How bad is that? She's 11 and I did ask her what one she wanted when we were in Sainsburys and she said 'Oh, I don't know really'. So I figured she wasn't bothered, so why bother! We're not big choclate eater either, so I have always ended up making ricecrispy cakes with them by June!

nightowl · 08/04/2007 19:14

i ate two thirds of a thorntons easter egg last night. am very impressed with my staying power. oh and half a flake one today.

3easterbunniesandnomore · 08/04/2007 19:11

be happy your dh is wiht ya...I am sure he loves you, surely that is what counts...not a bloody chocolate egg or the lack of one, sigh!

belgo · 08/04/2007 19:07

I know my dh is useless when it comes to buying things for me. But it doesn't mean that he doesn't care or doesn't appreciate me.

I buy my own easter eggs and presents (with his money) and give them to him to give to me. Life is far easier that way. And I never forget my own birthday

Hayls · 08/04/2007 19:02

All sorted now . THink I was feeling a bit stressed and put upon generally and the lack of chocolate sent me over the edge! We had a bit of a heated discussion earlier (not just over chocolate!) and have resolved everything now and he's even just brought the washing in from the line without me asking . All is hunky dory, especially because we did an egg hunt for dd and hid some mini creme eggs inside them and I ate 5 of them .

Oh and dh promised to buy me an Easter egg next year- I asked for a Flake one and he muttered something about 'that being appropriate'... don't know what he means!

Agree with you Little Sarah, I see it as a good opportunity for us to spend time together as a family and have fun. TBH, I wasn't just fussed over chocolate foods but I think that's clear now.

I'm not religious but still like to use the holiday (rather like Christmas) for some family time and yes maybe some chocolate eating time too. Nowt wrong with that. Have bought myself some champagne truffle eggs as a treat (yum yum) and will enjoy them later. No dp for me but unfortunately men can often be inconsiderate arses, tell him next year, or buy yourself something!

auntymandy · 08/04/2007 15:19

well I didnt know that DH had managed to achieve a little by buying 2!!!

Judy1234 · 08/04/2007 14:57

You should be in church not fussing about chocolate foods which are terribly bad for you all anyway.

tribpot · 08/04/2007 14:40

Did you forget how many children you had, auntymandy?!

auntymandy · 08/04/2007 14:39

I mamaged to buy 2 extra by mistake!! then went to buy a box of chocs for ex H to go with champagne I got him for a wedding pressie and they were bogof so I have a lovely box of chocs now!!!!

melpomene · 08/04/2007 14:37

Just life, not worth getting wound up over.

Focus on enjoying your day together and make sure dh lets you eat some of his egg.

tribpot · 08/04/2007 13:41

I hadn't realised that grown-ups actually expected presents at Easter - til I heard people in my office talking about going out to buy Easter eggs for their other halves.

I'm just enjoying the truly terrible pun on the sign outside of our local Baptist church (they always have something groan-worthy): "What on oeuf is Easter all about? New life in Jesus".

boysontoast · 08/04/2007 13:41

oh good grief woman, you didnt get any choc for yourself???
you will next year, eh?

JetPeanut · 08/04/2007 13:36

Eat DH's egg. Problem solved. BTW what a fantastic effort! You sound like a really lovely mum. Happy Easter!

pointydog · 08/04/2007 10:26

You're doing the woman-as-a-martyr thing. You've decided to go to great lengths to make everything happy for everyone. You expect this to be appreciated. Often it's not.

You should have told dh you were looking forward to getting chocolate from him. Not really unreasonable but you need to spell it out.

lionheart · 08/04/2007 10:11

If the man hasn't been you will just have to stare pointedly and longingly at your dd's stash until the hint is taken.

I don't think this kind of omission is always about being thoughtless, though, some people are just oblivious to the full range of

"gifting opportunities" out there.

Hayls · 08/04/2007 10:05

He normally does make a fuss of everything else. WIll check if my chocolate has been delivered when I go downstairs. Hope the emergency chocolate delivery man hasn't made a mess coming in teh window, window cleaners have just been.

Hayls · 08/04/2007 10:03

Ok I will forgive the lack of chocolate if I go downstairs and dh has made the packed lunch. Actually dd has just appeared fully dressed so things may be looking up.

lionheart · 08/04/2007 10:03

Does he make a fuss when other "gifting opportunities" arise?

sunnywong · 08/04/2007 10:01

Gifting Opportunity - nail on the head!

Hayls · 08/04/2007 10:01

Nah I'm not really miffed at not getting choc as I can eat dd's. I'm upset because dh could have made a (very small) effort and he didn't.
Eating chocolate with imupinty holds a certain appeal but I do realise the relavance of this weekend and have explained it to dd.

WideWebWitch · 08/04/2007 10:00

We're not doing anything for easter. We're not Christian so to me it's what the retail sector describe as another 'gifting opportunity.' My children haven't even had eggs but ds is away at ex ils so will get some there and dd is too small to know anything about it.

Dh and I certainly haven't got each other anything and never will.

So I would say yes, you are being unreasonable!

lionheart · 08/04/2007 09:58

Watch out, Hayls, I have called the emergency chocolate number and a man dressed in black is abseiling into your living room even as you read this.

You will find a big box of chocolates waiting for you when he's gone.

I am very impressed by all the work you've put into it, at any rate.

misdee · 08/04/2007 09:57

i'm getting nothing from dh for easter, no biggie. really cannot get that hyped about it.

sunnywong · 08/04/2007 09:55

well I suppose you have to first wrestle with the question: Is this the opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of Christ to eternal life or the opportunity to eat chocolate with impunity?
