Can I just go off on a tangent here?

I answered the mobile yesterday and mixed up the French 'Salut' which means hi, and the English 'hello' and treated my caller to a cheery "Salop" (pronounced salo).

There was a surprised silence. It was the bank manager, ringing to confirm my appointment.

For future pedantry française purposes, Ellbell:

&CCedil; = alt key + 0199
ç = alt key + 0231

Oh that's a lovely word for it Bink - and so... cultured.

I like it because it makes a thread that does this sound better than other threads - rather than making the meandering sound like a bad thing.

Sorry, haven't time to read the whole thread, but can someone explain to me what being ugly has got to do with anything at all? I'm confused now. (not thick - confused, there is a difference)

Oh Anna really you must be taking the piss. What if your partner or daughter had an accident and ended up with a big scar on their face? Would you love them less or be less happy with your lot? I blimmin well hope not.

not read the whole thread but 1 can be put down to accent though I don't like it - 2 is just wrong in any dialect.

I had three qualified accountants - all educated people - say it to me during a job interview and none of them got the job.
