What do you get irrationally annoyed about?

I have been smiling to myself at 'am I being unreasonable to want to go to the BBC HQ and bite someone' and 'am I being unreasonable to be Homicidal with Rage about ...' threads

I am generally a chilled person ... I can't get myself worked up about parent and toddler car parking threads for example ...
And laughed till I cried over the 'grapes' thread years ago on Mumsnet ...

BUT: When I help my children do a jigsaw puzzle and find at the end that there is a piece missing I get soooooooooooooo irrationally angry that I want to chuck a chair out of the window ....
Obviously I don't ... as I am a 'nice mummy' and I would scare my children. But inside I am screaming "Where is that faaaaaarrrrrking jigsaw piece????????"
I have to go and take deep breaths and calm down or have a gin
I am the same with lost shoes.
And if someone parks their car on the pavement on the way to school and I have to push the buggy out onto the road to get past I have to suppress an urge to run my keys down the side of that car

So, what silly thing do you get irrationally cross about????

It's rare that I get Very annoyed. BUT I realised today, 2 things really piss me off.

Sticky Labels - WHY oh WHY do they use those sticky labels that come apart in a thousand pieces and then you end up scratching at the label with your nail to try and get it off, and the top peels off and leaves a sticky residue and that NEVER comes off and all sorts of crap sticks to it .

Shoe Half Sizes - I'm a 4 and a half. I'm not 4 and I'm not 5. 4 is too small, 5 is too big and THAT is why I'm a 4 and a half. So WHY do SO MANY shoe shops only do whole sizes grrrrrrrrr.

My Boss leaving his computer running for hours when he's not in the room, makes a buzzing noise which really $"@ me off!

ghosty · 28/02/2007 20:04

Oh, I have another one:

When someone phones you to talk to you and then they say, "Hold on, I've got someone trying to call, wait there" and they leave you on hold on that 'CALL WAITING' thing you can get with the phone company ...

I HATE THAT and makes me want to bang them hard on the head with my phone ...

Total irrational anger that has me spluttering

They called me and not I have to wait?????? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

(wilkie - if you're FF what you could do is just make up the water and leave it stand at room temperature and then add the formula when baby needs it: doesn't require any heating up)

people who have answerphones but never listen to their messages

Happydaddy, i beg to disagree you must have a v. bckwards petrol station! at both my local stations one can fill up and park leaving the pump free fro the next person. the pump is only released for two peopleat a time until one has paid so inevitably there could be queues. but i would suggest that if people filled up. parked paid etcetc it would make the queues shorter.

I also hate the words moist and gusset. Especially when used together. I have an irrational hatred of people who use the word random randomly, also rogue apostrophes, people who don't say thank you when you hold open the door (I've been known to let it shut in their face if I think they're not going to thank me), shoes left in the middle of the bedroom floor for me to trip over (aaaarrrgggghhhh), MIL using baby language like trainees and photees when talking to me and DP and anyone ringing after 9pm or early on a Sun/Sat morning (usually MIL). I guess I'm not a very tolerant person.

Gobbledigook · 28/02/2007 14:28

People who don't drive into yellow boxes when turning right. Does my noggin in. Learn your f*cking highway code!

fryalot · 28/02/2007 14:24

people use the pay @ pump pumps and DON'T pay @ pump??????

That would drive me mad.

wilkie50 · 28/02/2007 14:11

These are funny -can I join in??

People who use 'Pay and Pump' petrol stations but are too scared too use the 'technical' card machine so still trundle off to the kiosk to pay whilst I sit waiting for them to MOVE!!!
My DH misusing the word 'aren't', i.e. 'They aren't as good as last week'....do you mean 'They're not as good as last week?' (in fact, maybe that is still right but sounds wrong and irritates me)
DH saying 'offence' instead of 'often' (hmm pattern emerging here!!)
Forgetting to switch the bottle warmer on in the middle of the night so when I have finished changing a screaming 7 week old DS expecting the bottle to be hot, it's stone cold!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Think I might have PMT!

eemie · 28/02/2007 14:11

Agree about 'bap' and 'pamper'. Also 'treat' (as in 'I treated myself to a bap') and 'invest' ('I invested in a bap')...you mean you bought it.

I would add the misuse of 'begs the question' to the list of grammatical irritants. Also people saying 'refute' when they mean 'contradict'.

Doesn't make me reach for a knife every time though. It's dangerous driving that really makes me homicidal.

clairemow · 28/02/2007 13:48

glad to have taught you something HD!

HappyDaddy · 28/02/2007 13:46

Oh no, I spell definitely, like that. I thought my grammar and spelling were good, too.

clairemow · 28/02/2007 13:45

also spelling definitely with a rogue "a" instead of the second "i". Pedant.

fryalot · 28/02/2007 13:41

and decimated.

and incredibly.

I NEED to get out more

doots · 28/02/2007 13:36

Oh and people who misuse the word 'mortified'

fryalot · 28/02/2007 13:24

Occasionally (ie: once a week) I will buy a cbeebies magazine; it really annoys me when the free gift is designed for children older than mine so I have to try and hide it from them.

I know I could NOT buy the magazine.

I know I could look at the free gift BEFORE buying the magazine and make a rational decision about whether or not to buy it.

But that's no fun, I have to buy it then whinge at the fact that the kids can't play with the free gift.

Ripeberry · 28/02/2007 13:23

Hi Claremow, yes i did that once in Betws-y-coed in N. Wales. My DD2 wanted her milk she was only 4 months old but i was breastfeeding so i wanted to move from the drivers seat to the back seat to feed her and this women pulls up and asks if i'm going.
I may have said it the wrong way as i was tired after a 3hr drive up and said, no i was staying.
God! the look she gave me, it was as if i was her enemy or something.
Rest of that day, kept seing her around the village and we would just glare at each other.
Totally childish.. Tee-hee.

ipanemagirl · 28/02/2007 13:22

Shop staff who carry on chatting to a work colleague or, even worse, on the phone while serving you. Hate that so much.

clairemow · 28/02/2007 13:19

hey ripeberry, they'd love me, I sometimes feed my baby in the car - rushing about ferrying DS1 here there and everywhere, so I'd look like I was leaving, and then out comes a bottle and bowl and little spoon. LOL LOL LOL!!!

Ripeberry · 28/02/2007 13:17

People who beep at you whilst you are trying to get a defiant wriggly toddler in to the car seat and who decides at that moment to see how rigid they can make themselves.
I simply hate being rushed out of a car parking space.
I will leave in my own good time. Those selfish people can just drive around a bit more.
A few times i have sat there and stared at them, willing them to get out of their car so i could have right slanging match with me.
Especially if they are blond bimbos in expensive "Get the f**k out of my way 4X4s.
