What do you get irrationally annoyed about?

I have been smiling to myself at 'am I being unreasonable to want to go to the BBC HQ and bite someone' and 'am I being unreasonable to be Homicidal with Rage about ...' threads

I am generally a chilled person ... I can't get myself worked up about parent and toddler car parking threads for example ...
And laughed till I cried over the 'grapes' thread years ago on Mumsnet ...

BUT: When I help my children do a jigsaw puzzle and find at the end that there is a piece missing I get soooooooooooooo irrationally angry that I want to chuck a chair out of the window ....
Obviously I don't ... as I am a 'nice mummy' and I would scare my children. But inside I am screaming "Where is that faaaaaarrrrrking jigsaw piece????????"
I have to go and take deep breaths and calm down or have a gin
I am the same with lost shoes.
And if someone parks their car on the pavement on the way to school and I have to push the buggy out onto the road to get past I have to suppress an urge to run my keys down the side of that car

So, what silly thing do you get irrationally cross about????

people leaving their free Metro newspaper on the floor of the tube, don;t have a problme with them leaving it on the seat for some reason, why's that then? Very odd.

powder28 · 03/05/2007 11:17

Another thing that really annoys me is when my dh has a sneezing fit! He does about 20 of them and it makes me want to punch him hard in the face. It must annoy other people cos his boss told him off for sneezing the other day because he couldnt hear someone on the phone!

IcingOnTheCake · 03/05/2007 11:10

You don't realise how difficult it can be with a pushchair until you have one and how nasty people can be. Like when drivers insist on parking half on the pavement which means you can't get past.

powder28 · 03/05/2007 11:07

Think we should just ram them in the ankles, that'll learn 'em!

IcingOnTheCake · 03/05/2007 11:05

Yes powder28, that and when people chat in shop doorways! I have said to them when i am not in a very pleasant mood 'this is a doorway, not a public meeting room!' and they just look at me all confused.

powder28 · 03/05/2007 11:01

People who stand chatting on the pavement and begrudgingly move half a centimetre when you want to go past with your pushchair. I want to shout 'GET OUT OF MY FCKING WAY YOU STUPID CNTS' but I don't.

Thought of some more

We're all ready to leave to go somewhere. DH suddenly has to have a glass of water.

DH says he wants to leave at a certain time. I get DS, DD and me ready (including all their paraphanalia). DH has only himself to get ready and takes about 5 times as long. I get stressed as it is past his time for us leaving. He doesn't get stressed.

IdrisTheDragon · 03/05/2007 10:46

DH taking his trousers off and leaving his pants in them.

DH taking his trousers off and not taking the coins out of his pockets first.

DH taking his trousers off and not hanging them up, but just leaving them on the washing basket. Then asking where they are when they have been washed.

Socks. Everything about them.

Toy cars under my feet.

Stuff. All stuff. Our house is full of it.

That felt quite therapeutic .

IcingOnTheCake · 03/05/2007 10:44

And earlgrey i agree about the pregnant holding your belly thing. Sky in neighbours did that the whole time she was pregnant, it was like someone had superglued her hands to her tummy.

AnneJones · 03/05/2007 10:42

Apols for repeat of 'literally' gripe - hadn't read all the posts!

(But I think it's annoying enough to bear repeating.)

IcingOnTheCake · 03/05/2007 10:41

Yes AnneJones that 'obviously' thing IS patronising! I get annoyed when your in a shop and instead of just saying 'excuse me please', someone tries sqeezing past you or knocks past you without saying anything. Or when i am with the pushchair and i DO say excuse me to someone to get past and they move an inch forward, then give you 'looks' if your pushchair bumps them abit!

trippleshot · 03/05/2007 10:29

People who treat their pets like children. Some how I just can't be live and let live about that one.

AnneJones · 03/05/2007 10:27

Actually I think the checkout one is quite rational.

AnneJones · 03/05/2007 10:27

The word "literally" used wrongly eg "I literally died" - er...you are still talking so actually you didn't die.

Also the word "obviously" which I find patronising - either say what you have to say, or don't say it because it is obvious. Saying 'obviously' makes it sound like 'well it is obvious to me but you're a bit of a thickie so I have to tell you.'

Grr.

Also, people who keep chatting on mobile phones while at a checkout or till - how sodding rude to totally ignore another human being with whom you are interacting, because your conversation is clearly more important and they are really no more than an automaton. Really p's me off.

throckenholt · 03/05/2007 07:45

people who drive down narrow country lanes, drive past the only passing place, then refuse to either pull on to the verge or reverse - or if they do reverse make a complete pigs ear of it, and then shout at you as if it was your fault and not their own.

earlgrey · 03/05/2007 06:56

Bit scared to write this one down, but here goes. Pregnant women who walk round with their hands on top of their bump. And don't take it off. Not to be confused with the justifiable 'Ooooh, I just felt my baby move'. More of a permanent hand-rest.

DeviousDaffodil · 06/03/2007 10:42

When an OP asks for advice, I give mine, X gives similar, and OP goes, oh thanks X, and ignores me. REAALLY PISSES ME OFF!

Singapore · 06/03/2007 10:31

Those soap/lotion dispensers that say, twist this way to open, I never can and end up having to remove the top completely and getting into a real mess! Is is just me?

williamsmummy · 06/03/2007 10:28

clear plastic film wrap.
hate it, cant get it of my box of PG tips!! have to use a knife instead.
oh, and yogurts that wont snap apart with out cracking the pot and leaking yogurt all over me.

sockmonkey · 06/03/2007 08:12

I have finally thought of a couple.
Being squirted... I actually almost left DH after he got a water pistol. It's that bad!(we had only been married a little while)

Also being breathed on, especially on my kneck or face. Makes me shudder

earlgrey · 01/03/2007 06:56

When buying shoes:

"Do you have these in a size 5 1/2?"

Assistant disappears then reappears.

"No, but we've got them in a 4 1/2 or a 6"

Aaaaaagh!!!!

TheArmadillo · 28/02/2007 20:18

I've mentioned this before, but I really hate my own sneezing. Especially when I'm trying to get something done and have a sneezing fit. I would swear but I can't cos I'm TOO BUSY SNEEZING IT makes me so cross.

The people who start their essays really early at uni and take out ALL the books on the topic (not one or two oh no couldn't leave any for other people) and then keep them for 6 WEEKS and return them the DAY AFTER the essay is due. It doesn't take that long to read a book ffs

People who when you move out their way or let them through or whatever don't have the basic manners to say thank-you

The fact I am accident-prone - I get very annoyed when I bump into things/fall over/damage myself in some other way.

ghosty · 28/02/2007 20:16

Foxinsocks ... i am with you on the sticky labels thing ... I had this new casserole dish that had a label that said, "Remove all labels before use" and it was one of those.
Casserole dish is still unused

Am hypocrite....
