HEELIES.............annoying children

I was out for a walk with a friend yesterday and her son didn't have a problem using his heelies on the pavement. Especially downhill!
I love the way that one or two of the people on this thread who let their kids use them in shops get soooo touchy about being criticised!

Well how do they work then? I thought the whole point was that you turn them into ordinary shoes when you needed to.

I think people who were saying 'go to a park' don't understand that the heelies only really work on a VERY flat surface, and THAT'S WHY THE KIDS LIKE SHOPPING CENTRES SO MUCH! Out on the pavement it's just too bumpy.

Not on the actual Heelys make there isn't.

clemster - there is a little button on the back of the heel which clicks the wheels back in when you press it. Which is the advantage I think nappy - they can wear ordinary trainers and then turn them into skates whenever they want instead of having to anything round with them.

My DS loves his and I do have to be quite strict to stop him using them everywhere.

i was just wondering, for those of you who have children with heelys what's wrong with ordinary skates? surely these are better cos at least the foot is flat?

i don't think they should be allowed them in shops or town centres. skateboards and rollerblades are banned how are heelies any different? they should be kept for parks.

Seeing kids on wheelies is fun ... makes me think of those 3 year olds that whizz past me on the ski slopes at a gazillion miles an hour while I'm thinking aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah snow-plough, snow-plough

But having said that i know it can be annoying if there are children scooting all over the place getting in the way, it's not the childs fault its the parents for not tellingn them to stop it or whatever. Perhaps the park is a better place to do it. But freedom of choice isn't it,

i don't let my dd skate all around the shops either she holds my hand and is beside me. the park is ok unless you wanna run over 100 lots of dog shit. I can't see the harm, unless a chiid gets wild and heelys all around shops knocking people over on purpose just to piss people off. No, i don't think it's a problem because i won't let her skate off. Don't presume all parents who have children with heelies let them skate all over the place. That's just some not all.

Think I'd rather teach my child to spell than spend the time worrying about whether she should wear her Heelys.

park is cold??? physical activity makes you warm!

my child does NOT skate around the shop, she skates along side me, she does NOT get in anybodys way nor does she knock anybody over,the park is very cold at the moment. no harm is being done.

If you let your children skate around in shops knocking old ladies over then that IS stupid, i would not let my kids do it, i would not want my mother knocked over by a wild child on skate in a shop, whos mother did not bat an eye lid.

If you want your child to have heelies then be responcible and take them to a park!

The OP, is that me?? the original poster or what? yes i do, absoeffinlutely! have children that age. If they had heelies I woudl take them to the park, i take them to the park with their bikes, scooters and rollerblades, not in the shops no way!

i was avoiding a child on heeies and got run over by her mum pushign a pram! They come at you too fast and if toddlers are running round shops they're smaller...

parents who let their childern run riot on heelies in shops are imo stupid, im not changing my mind and i dont feel i need to use long words when stupid sums them up perfectly well.

Nothing wrong with heelys per se - like anything they need to be used sensibly. I suspect the OP doesn't have children of an age to use heelys - just wait! You'll see it all differently when it's something your own children do.
