"Ginger boys are just ugly"

Just wanted to rant Angry

Had 32wk consultant appointment today, sat in tiny waiting room with about 15 other people all crammed in and there's two women sat opposite DP and I chatting to each other, conversation goes something like "have you ever thought that your baby could be ginger" "oh god no don't say that, I wouldn't mind so much if it was a girl but ginger boys are just ugly, yuk"

DP was sat next to me and could hear the whole thing, he is ginger and so is our 14 month old DS. How rude can you get?!
DP wears a cap constantly when he's out because he got teased in school about it.

What difference does it make what colour hair you have? It's just a colour the same as brown, blonde, black are colours! Thinking about it now it's really making my blood boil and if I could turn back time I wish I'd have said something to them instead of staying quiet because I didn't want to cause an argument.
Idiots Sad

Why is it that mens' beards are so often ginger? What's the massive difference between hair follicles on head v face?

MariaV0nTrapp · 31/10/2015 01:14

I know someone that says "if I have ginger grandkids I'll drown them" wt actual f! She's a twat. I hope she has a ginger grandkid so she can eat her words. not drown them, I don't think she actually would

DH has had black hair and a ginger beard, strange I know and I'm mousy (dyed light ginger) all our kids are mousy or blonde except our newborn, she's ginger and it's flipping gorgeous. If she was a boy it would still be gorgeous.. I love ginger Grin

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 01:11

Poor standard of trolling these days.

Tsk.

On a side note I was horrified recently to see that Ewan McGregor had had his teeth replaced with Hollywood style veneers.

Crush.Over.

M00nUnit · 31/10/2015 01:02

Actually I guess in some photos Ewan McGregor's hair does look a bit reddish. I guess I still tend to picture him as Renton in Trainspotting a lot of the time.

Agree with IrishDad that Ed Sheeran is not hot. Nice guy, very talented and GREAT hair colour but not a hotty, no.

Devora · 31/10/2015 01:00

We've all been there, Unbelievablydull Grin

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 00:59

No IrishDad he definitely wouldn't. I'm sure Ed himself would say the same!

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 00:57

M00nUnit I think Ewan McGregor has that look of being from ginger lineage without being an actual ginger.

But I agree there's no way he's a red head.

IrishDad79 · 31/10/2015 00:56

Some people have given Ed Sheeran as an example of a "hot" ginger. I mean, Ed Sheeran, really? Don't get me wrong, great singer-songwriter and seems a really nice guy, but if he wasn't rich, famous and talented would he be considered a looker?

Sounbelievablydull · 31/10/2015 00:56

Yes I did read the whole thread but was in a fury of anger so did accuse everyone unfairly of being anti ginger. That was really quite crazy of me!

Appologies all round
Still stand by the difficulties ginger people face

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 00:55

I think gingerism is deeply ingrained in UK culture and has been for centuries possibly. Plus the pale skin etc. that go along with red hair don't really chime with modern standards of bronzed beauty.

But it's funny that in America red hair doesn't seem to carry the same stigma.

WorraLiberty · 31/10/2015 00:54

I would agree it depends on where you live if this was any other subject Mmmmcake but not on this one.

Also, in RL I've heard many a person compliment a newborn/toddler on their ginger hair, and then go on to say (once they've disappeared) that they wouldn't want ginger kids themselves.

It baffles me really how people feel so strongly about a hair colour, whether they're for or against it.

M00nUnit · 31/10/2015 00:53

Why are people bringing Ewan McGregor into this? He's not remotely ginger! Not that gingers aren't hot - I'm married to one and I fancy him rotten.

Mmmmcake123 · 31/10/2015 00:51

Worra depends where you live really when considering if mn represents rl

Mmmmcake123 · 31/10/2015 00:47

Mitzy bring it on I say! Just hope the human race as a whole adapts to it during the transitional phase xxx

WorraLiberty · 31/10/2015 00:47

But again you see I truly don't believe that the general opinion on MN (that ginger hair is beautiful) is representative of the general opinion in RL.

One reason could possibly be that the only 2 people to state a negative opinion about it, were sworn at and jumped on here.

So perhaps that's why these threads never really get to the bottom of why so many people don't like it?

Perhaps it is 'racism', xenophobia, something they learned from home growing up, or maybe it's something else.

But I don't think we'll ever know if people are going to get a hard time for expressing how they feel.

Or if people like Sounbelievablydull, make posts like that ^^ without even reading the thread.

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 00:38

Mmmmcake123 I read that in 1000 years time humans might have red eyes. I'll have to take their word for it though!

timelytess · 31/10/2015 00:36

People are so stupid about red hair. Its beautiful. And Celtic.
My granddad and the men in his family had black hair but red beards. My late dm had, and me and my dd have some red in our hair. I love to see red hair.
I do sometimes think that the UK general public are easily led into despising each other for no good reason at all.

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 00:36

'Mind you, I don't know why some people get so 'gushy' over it either because again...it's just a bloody hair colour.'

Yes. It is a bit of a MN cliché that people go into raptures over red hair.

Mmmmcake123 · 31/10/2015 00:35

Need to shut up and go to bed but I do wonder what future races are. I live in a multicultural society very happily, myself and children celebrate every festivity going on. We have good friends locally. Tbh nobody around us at home has any ginger issues, i'm more annoyed about tv. Without it and social media hit a ginger day would never have happened.
Op apologies for ranting too much on your post, enjoy your boy

Devora · 31/10/2015 00:34

Sounbelievablydull, I think we've had about 2 posters slagging off gingers and 150 robustly defending their charms...

BuggersMuddle · 31/10/2015 00:33

Anti-ginger stuff is real is and is horrible. I sincerely hope things have moved on from my childhood (and tbf I think they have).

I inherited my hair from my DF, who had the most awesome ginger curls. When I was young, older women used to stroke his hair on the bus Grin

Where I come from, anti-ginger sentiment was real and wrapped up in all the sectarian shite endemic in the area. I think that's an anomaly, although sadly my experience is that 'ginger girls okay / ginger boys not' is common.

WorraLiberty · 31/10/2015 00:29

Sounbelievablydull Errm...have you actually read the thread?

I'm not sure who you mean when you say you all? Confused
