"Ginger boys are just ugly"

Just wanted to rant Angry

Had 32wk consultant appointment today, sat in tiny waiting room with about 15 other people all crammed in and there's two women sat opposite DP and I chatting to each other, conversation goes something like "have you ever thought that your baby could be ginger" "oh god no don't say that, I wouldn't mind so much if it was a girl but ginger boys are just ugly, yuk"

DP was sat next to me and could hear the whole thing, he is ginger and so is our 14 month old DS. How rude can you get?!
DP wears a cap constantly when he's out because he got teased in school about it.

What difference does it make what colour hair you have? It's just a colour the same as brown, blonde, black are colours! Thinking about it now it's really making my blood boil and if I could turn back time I wish I'd have said something to them instead of staying quiet because I didn't want to cause an argument.
Idiots Sad

Sounds just like the rants I've heard about how disgusting and unnecessary breastfeeding is, when I've had people in earshot bemoaning how awful having your baby around and cooing. Ignore. They are vulgar, thick and lack class.

Ginger is hot. No more attractive/unattractive than blond/brown/black hair; or any other race for that matter.

Kevin mckidd, Prince Harry, Damien Lewis. Ginger boys are yummy!

I have red hair but I occasionally see something that makes me laugh. Like the sperm clinic says ''no ginger tossers''. I laughed at that. But then I don't have freckles.. I think it's people with freckles and see through eye lashes who get a hard time. jmo.

nancy75 · 30/10/2015 22:42

My DP is ginger and I have to admit I was very relieved when DD was born with my dark skin/hair. Obviously I don't find ginger people ugly as I wouldn't be with DP but I hated the thought of my child being bullied over something as stupid as her hair colour.

LisbethSalandersPan · 30/10/2015 22:41

As a (beautiful) ginger friend of mine told me "If you have dated a ginger raise a glass. If you haven't, raise your standards".

Benedict Cumbersome. Ginger?

Tapirs · 30/10/2015 22:40

Ok who left the gate open on the twat farm again?Hmm

Just file them under 'waste of oxygen and food'.

FeelsLikeHome123 · 30/10/2015 22:40

They were just showing their ignorance.

There is a red head convention in Ireland every year and they travel from all over the world to go to it.

thenightsky · 30/10/2015 22:40

The hottest boy in my school year was a ginger.

ShamefulPlaceMarker · 30/10/2015 22:38

Josh Homme? :)

Are happfeet & flowers&shit the same poster? I think they meed reporting for trolling!

PacificDogwod · 30/10/2015 22:38

I have never come across this level of vitriol against red hair until I moved to the UK. Which is ironic seeing that red hair is so much more common here than in my home country (Germany) where it is much admired and envied.

And don't get me started on 'ginger people smell funny' Hmm

As a matter of personal preference of course you can like or dislike red hair but the whole 'Ooh, what will I do if my baby turns out ginger?' is just horrible and I Will Judge anybody who says shite like that.

And good point, ouryve.

Auburn is one thing, white skin and carrot is not good, sorry!

Please do explain what is wrong with the natural hair colouring that many people have.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 30/10/2015 22:38

ds is beautiful golden ginger hair with big brown eyes

I used to get really really upset by this and terrified he would be teased as I listened to too many people telling me he would

he probably will get teased at some point most children do but we celebrate differences more than ever, he is confident and easily the most popular boy in his class because he is just wonderful

oh and I laughed at the nobody loves a ginger kid card that was out a few years ago really how can you take something so stupid seriously

mudandmayhem01 · 30/10/2015 22:37

I have a blonde boy and a red haired girl ( both stunning beautiful children of courseGrin) people have actually said I was lucky it wasn't the other way round as ginger isn't nice for a boy utter bollocks and unbelievable rude, my friends handsome 14 son wears a ginger pride t shirt, must get dd one!

mrstiggy · 30/10/2015 22:37

My husband is a ginger. A proper orange you could see for a mile off in the dark through a power cut ginger. He's awesome. Grin
Before my ds was born a 'friend' asked if I'd looked into what hair dye you could use on a child 'in case it came out ginger'. She was a twat. He isn't ginger unfortunately. I never did get a red haired kid. I blame my parents. Wink
Some people are just dick heads OP, best not to dwell on it.

Eddie Redmayne. That is all.

Those dissing 'carrot ginger' - you do know babies can't choose their hair colour, any more than they can their skin colour or anything else? So why do you think it's fine to say it's awful?

ouryve · 30/10/2015 22:35

Well, you can dye ginger hair, if you have it and hate it, or cover it up like your DP, but it takes a lot more work to stop being an insensitive gobshite like these women.

The gingerbeard man is asleep on the sofa next to me, right now. I clearly don't have a problem with it.

Mmmmcake123 · 30/10/2015 22:34

Ginger has at times become an acceptable form of mockery. I was worried for my DD when she was younger, I didn't want her to hear any putdowns. A very good friend was always trying to be misguidedly supportive, e.g. her hair is a lovely colour, it's like aa much lighter shade of ginger !?!
I absolutely know the blood boiling feeling, fwiw you want to see her amazing head of hair now. She is absolutely full of confidence and whenever photographers from papers came in to school it's her image everywhere.
As for boys, as a teen I always loved ginger boys. Can't understand their ridiculous comments. My daughter has been avidly waiting (lol) for my little boy's hair to go a little bit more reddish.
In our house we champion gingers all the way as they are clearly better than everybody else!!!!!
Tell dp to ditch the cap and embrace his fab hair, we did and have never looked back. My DD taught me!
BTW you've just got to adore Ed sheeran

tentothesix · 30/10/2015 22:31

Insulting when for some reason people imply there is something wrong with being ginger...I've been told "Don't worry he's not ginger he's strawberry blonde."

Erm...I'm not worried and he IS ginger and I don't need you to tell me that he's ok. Dicks.

My husband is also ginger, as is my 14 year old Ds and I can confirm that neither are mingers! (I also have an 8 year old ginger dd but as girls are apparently immune to the ugly ginger fate then I'll leave her out of it...). Red hair is gorgeous and their hair gets commented on in a positive way so much more often than mine (brown) and my other 2 dd's (blonde) so it seems most people are much less twattish than those people you heard today.

My Ds has never been bullied about his hair colour either so it's definitely not as much of a "thing" as it used to be.

suchafuss · 30/10/2015 22:30

PRINCE HARRY, need I say more????? He is lush
