to ask if anyone has had a psychic reading that was extremely accurate?

One that could not be down to cold reading. For example, giving out very specific details such as exact dates, unusual names, basically precise facts that cannot be fished for or guessed and are not vague?

As I mentioned, I don't believe in remote reading, you need a connection with the person you're reding. If I was to try it it would most definitely be guesswork.

drudgetrudy · 10/05/2015 11:13

When I was a teenager my Mum used to visit psychics and take me along and yes there were 2 of them I remember who were uncannily accurate (I have posted before about having seen images in a crystal ball myself). The psychics were both extremely poor by the way. One lived in a council house in Atherton and one in a slum clearance type terrace in Leigh, Lancashire.
I do not have an explanation but it was strange. You can believe me or not but I am being truthful.
I saw another psychic about 5 years ago and he was extremely accurate but he had an address so I do suspect internet research.
I understand the cynicism but you don't half put it across rudely!

opheliaria
They are not specific. Its confirmation bias based on your reactions.
Unless you have a recording of the session, your memory is not accurate.
They will fish out with lots of vagueness and then home in depending on how you react.

I remember someone I used to work with went to see one and was told that her daughter had or would be having twins. We all had a laugh at how ridiculous it was, her daughter was on her own with 3 kids and no man on the scene. Cut to February this year when her daughter did indeed have twins, this was about 3 years after seeing the psychic. The same person was also told to watch her finances and that she could see her living somewhere with a good view. My colleague went bankrupt and lost her home, she ended up being housed in a block of high rise flats.

I'm on the fence about it it all, I doubt I would ever go and have a reading myself, I'd be too scared.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 11:10

How about you do a reading for me? What do the spirits say about me?

EmeraldThief · 10/05/2015 11:08

Yes, only once.

I went to psychic fair in a really grim pub last year, always been open minded about woo stuff but was a bit more skeptical about psychics. Had a reading in the dark and dusty "snug" of the pub with a very odd looking man which really added to the atmosphere. He told me things that he really couldn't have known about me, if it was all guess work then it was very good guess work.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 11:07

Looking forward to seeing East's cold reading being verified. Especially if she can continue with more detail. Smile

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 11:06

Please don't mock my psychic abilities. Open your mind.

ssd · 10/05/2015 11:04

very funny eastmidsmummy

Hmm
opheliaria · 10/05/2015 11:04

But how can cold reading explain someone giving an exact date something happened or a unusual name or other very specific facts? I understand there are a lot of frauds who give very vague and easy to predict answers, but what about those that give very very specific details that cannot be due to chance?

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 11:00

I have a message for someone on this thread. Your mother is quite poorly but you don't need to worry, she will make a full recovery. Her recovery will be faster when you fall pregnant later this year. Even though you haven't been trying. Your elderly relative died in a car some time ago (not necessarly a car crash) but wants to tell you they didn't suffer. They hope the cat is OK.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 11:00

I don't own anything on cold reading. Have t read anything either. Fail to see what a girl washing her hands at a sink next to me and minding her own has to do with nursing her MIL through cancer and having her life made a misery by the attitude of this woman.

TBI that statement is far less believable than what I'm saying. And no, I offer them to record but nobody has bothered taking me up on it.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 10:55

i was told by two separate psychics that I would have two DDs. I did.

Fuck me. Incredible story. What are the odds??

TalkinPeace · 10/05/2015 10:52

If you get a good book on cold reading out of the library, all of the amazing stories up thread are easy to explain.
Every last one of them.

AND
Do you have a tape recording of what the reader said to you and you said to them?
Because without that, all of your recollections are likely to be erroneous.

We see what we expect to see and hear what we expect to hear.
Confirmation bias is an amazing thing.
Experienced people watchers can tell a lot about family health in a few seconds.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 10:48

Compos, I totally agree that I can't prove this all to you. I'm not the type of person to make up claims but you don't know that. The fact I keep it hidden in RL (unless I'm with like minded people) is that I don't feel I want to defend it to cynics or non believers. The fact that I know it's true is enough to me. I find religion harder to defend than the sole existence of the afterlife and the proof that I personally have. It's a huge comfort to me to know that I'll be going somewhere to rejoin my loved ones after I die. To convince others that what I say is real would be like trying to create my own religion and I'm not interested in indoctrinating people.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/05/2015 10:46

Any psychic/medium who could genuinely tell a fortune/speak to the dead/whatever is not going to be plying his or her trade in Hull city centre.
I'm not overstating this: a person who could do this would be bigger than Jesus. They would be represent the single biggest shift in knowledge since the dawn of consciousness

Well said Smile

ComposHatComesBack · 10/05/2015 10:32

It is predictable reaction because the claims are far fetched and if you are going to make claims like this you need to back them up with evidence and you haven't. I am not calling you a crook, although plenty of so called psycics are. I do think you're very misguided. There are rational explanations for your 'gift' cold reading body language, confirmation bias etc. that don't defy every piece of evidence we have for how the world works.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 10:26

The predictable (and you wouldn't even have to be psychic to predict them) responses are the reasons I don't tell anyone new. I don't believe that you can remotely read someone as you need a connection with them. IMO anyone who says you can is talking bollocks.

As I said, I have had many occurrences, I just gave an example of the first I can remember. I do respect your views that it's a load of crap.

All I can say is I know that I don't make connections up, the details are too random to guess and I would never be as cruel as to hurt people in such a way.

A girl in a club toilet was harassing me for an on the spot reading. I told her I'd be happy to but not that night. There was a girl washing her hands next to us and I said to her that I did want to say something to her before she disappeared back into the club. Her MIL (in spirit) had barged her way in and insisted that I thank her for nursing her through her long decline through cancer. She had been so nasty to this girl and came through to thank her and apologise. She was pretty shocked and said all she had ever wanted was a tiny bit of gratitude from a woman that had made her so miserable with her attitude. I hadn't seen her before.

I also read for a man whose father had gone to London for a holiday (he grew up there) and his son had refused to go with him. He had a heart attack and died on the street, all I could feel was dizziness and fading away whist surrounded by faces and a flashing blue light. He had come through to say not to feel guilty, he'd had a great time there and died in a place he loved. The man sat there accusing his GF of telling me the story but she had never heard it before.

I have never charged ridiculous levels of payment. I'd ask for ten pounds each and provided wine and snacks on the night. There as always the no pay option, I have no interest in ripping people off. I can't abide charlatans and the harm they can do to vulnerable and grieving people.

I don't claim to have a special gift, everyone can 'learn' (or actually relearn as children do this naturally) to tune into spirit. We have all become so desensitised to connecting with our subconscious, it's like fine tuning a radio to find a station.

opheliaria · 10/05/2015 09:39

Does anyone know of a good, accurate psychic in London? I am desperate for some answers! If so, can they pm me please?

OP posts:
teeththief · 10/05/2015 09:35

I had my palm read on a whim about 10 years ago. When she got to the part about future children she said she could see a definite boy and girl but the 3rd line was incomplete. I now have a DS and a DD and my 3rd child was born sleeping at 21 weeks. Possibly a coincidence and I'd forgotten about it until my DM reminded me about it recently.

Another psychic quoted something written on a locket my Nan left me when she died which spooked me a bit.

I still don't know if I believe in it all though!

HazleNutt · 10/05/2015 09:34

That's one of their techniques - give some vague statement about hip or stomach problems, and if anybody you know happens to have them in the next decade or so, you will declare the prediction accurate. They probably also said tons of stuff that missed the mark.

springalong · 10/05/2015 09:33

I have only had 1 reading which was taped. There was one part of it which was extraordinary. The reading was in done in July. My then ex h was starting a new job in August. The psychic told me that this would not work out and he would have a significant opportunity in February. He started the job, hated it and in the following Feb started his own very successful consultancy business. When we divorced years later he said that I had never supported his new venture - I had never told him about the reading but assured him with 100% conviction that I had always known it would work. The psychic also talked about other things which did come true but just not quite in the exact way she mentioned.

ValancyJane · 10/05/2015 09:20

Not me personally, but my Dad (a very skeptical, logical man) had one when he was around 18 shortly after his mother had died. His older brother had taken him along - I think Dad went to make sure my Uncle wasn't just getting fleeced! It was at the Spiritualist Church, the session was recorded on cassette, and Dad remembered it being very accurate (names, birth dates, mentioning money that his mother gave him for a ticket to the FA cup final - accurate to the penny, etc). It blew Dad away at the time, and as I said he's not a woo person.

He re-listened to it about ten years later, after he had married and I'd been born, and one thing the psychic said that hadn't made any sense at the time was "the most important thing in your life will be a rose." I'm his only daughter, and was named after a particular variety of rose they were given when my Mum was pregnant (she still has the rosebush). Dad and I don't get on now, but I do like to remember that - it gives me some hope that he does actually love me despite all the twatty decisions he's made!

My Aunt (their sister) also had a reading after all that, and the psychic correctly mentioned daffodils as being my Nan's favourite flower (it was).

Who knows - could have all been a gigantic coincidence - but I know all three siblings completely believe their readings were accurate.

bearchomp · 10/05/2015 09:20

red I now live 200 miles away from where I was bought up and where my nan lived but I had been visiting an old school friend in the area and on my way back decided to stop by at the park where my nan used to take me so this park wouldn't have been known to the medium as it was 200 miles away yet she gave me the exact name of it - an unusual name not just - "the park"
and told me it was yesterday, which it was.

GaryBaldy · 10/05/2015 09:06

Total cynic but went with friend who didn't want to go on her own to one of those readers in a tent at a fair.

She told me I was pregnant when even I didn't know I was.
