to ask if anyone has had a psychic reading that was extremely accurate?

One that could not be down to cold reading. For example, giving out very specific details such as exact dates, unusual names, basically precise facts that cannot be fished for or guessed and are not vague?

bcup in the immediate aftermath of someone dying it might bring someone comfort to tip a bottle of gin down their neck every night to blot out the pain. But it won't help them grieve and move on. Likewise paying a fraudster to tellstell them what them fairy stories about their dead loved one doesn't help them to move on and accept the loss.

opheliaria · 10/05/2015 13:53

Whether it is real or not I do not know. But I actually think if people choose to pay to see a psychic then in a way they are paying for a service which is to hear what they want to hear, whether it is "real" or not. As long as they are adults with the responsibility to make the choice to pay someone for such a service, I have no problem with it. If it makes people feel better, I also have no problem with it.

I don't know, but if someone finds comfort in them i'm definitely not going to argue.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 13:36

Thanks, Sliceofsoup. Fantastic nn, that's when you know it's a good soup haha.

fackinell · 10/05/2015 13:34

Itsonly, I agree with you completely. If the bible was written in current times then Mary would be a philandering so and so, Moses would probably be sectioned and King Herod would most likely be taking over as leader of UKIPGrin Yet thousands pour money in in spite of scandals such as paedophelia, corruption and that old chestnut, no proof.

I don't believe I am psychic, I believe that I can tune into feeling, hearing and seeing spirit through channelling my energies and using tools of divination. I'm not a walking miracle, I'm a person who likes to try and bring comfort, give hope and calm fears. I make no profit from any of this (other than my short time of doing professional readings to cover the fact it was my job) and offered immediate non payment if there is any doubt of my credibility. What a nasty piece of work, huh?

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:33

I agree. But does that preclude questioning the veracity of psychics at other times?

OttiliaVonBCup · 10/05/2015 13:31

I would never dream of telling someone who's lost a loved one how to grieve. If they think they want to try and talk to the dead, so be it.

Besides they are perfectly well equipped to realise a psychic is a fake one, people do have their own brain, you know.

Sometimes this too helps with the grieving process.

sliceofsoup · 10/05/2015 13:29

It is one thing to have a discussion and debate, and hold a differing point of view. But to pile in on one poster and pick them apart? Not on.

fackinell owes nothing to the world or anyone in it.

I have never had a reading. My general thoughts on it is that it is just a very intuitive person reading body language and making vague enough statements that could mean anything. But I am also really interested in hearing from the likes of fackinell and listening to another side of the story. Perhaps I am just not so arrogant as to believe I am right or that modern science is right. We still have a lot to learn.

Whatever side of this debate we fall on however, we should all be respectful of each other.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:28

Itsonlysubterfuge, I don't find any philosophical difference between Christianity or any other "woo".

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:26

So OtilliavonBCup, you don't think it's right to ever question the veracity of psychics or you don't think it's right to tell bereaved people they're wrong to seek news from the dead?

itsonlysubterfuge · 10/05/2015 13:24

eastmids How come you don't do the same with the Church? People are following a set of rules that God told someone to write down. How is that any different? There is no scientific proof that God exists and people pay millions to the various churches, way more than people who pay physics. The Church often takes advantage of people who are vulnerable, why not take them on? I'm speaking of Christian churches, which is what I am most familiar with. How many homosexual people have been hurt because the Lord writes that homosexuals are bad? How many wars have there been? Are physics really that bad?

Up next, World War III, the rational scientific community against physics who just want to tell them their loved ones are okay. Millions will die for their cause....

MaidOfStars · 10/05/2015 13:21

fack I'm a little confused.

Are you saying you believe you have psychic powers (but accept that others may not share that belief) or are you saying that you can demonstrate psychic powers?

OttiliaVonBCup · 10/05/2015 13:21

But comfort doesn't equate to what's right.

I don't know if I believe, I don't think I do.

What I believe though is that if a bereaved person finds comfort in any way they want then it's not my place, or indeed anyone else place to tell them otherwise.
For some people it's psychics, for other it's religion.

Why are you to tell them what's right and what's wrong? Very arrogant statement.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:20

The "study" that proves that the dead stay dead is called the study of biology. There's lots of it about. Feel free to Google.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:19

You can't try and disguise a matter of fact inside an opinion and expect not to be challenged on it ("In my opinion, there's no such thing as gravity.")

fackinell · 10/05/2015 13:14

I said IMO, do you require proof of my opinion?

fackinell · 10/05/2015 13:14

Great links, thank you. I'll have a read.

What about the link to the proof that the dead stay dead? I'd genuinely be interested in the study. Not sure where that would leave the likes of me then. Maybe I'm a mind reader and should have a change of direction.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:13

Believe what you want, fack, but there is no evidence for any of it. We are all born with psychic powers and lose them as children, do we? What possible evidence do you have for that?

TalkinPeace · 10/05/2015 13:07

THere is also good money to be made proving your skills to these people
www.koestler-parapsychology.psy.ed.ac.uk/index.html

fackinell · 10/05/2015 13:06

I haven't once said I have special powers. I actually said that anyone can do it. It's something (I believe) that we are born with and lose. Children don't challenge what they see and hear, they are instinctive. Our rational minds begin to take over and tell us that what we see and hear can't possibly exist based on the science we are taught.

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:06

It'sonlysubterfuge, people will get comfort from where they choose. But comfort doesn't equate to what's right. Psychics claim the can talk to the dead. No they can't. So anyone claiming that they can is basing the comfort they offer, often to the vulnerable or bereaved, on the basis of lies. I don't think that's right.

TalkinPeace · 10/05/2015 13:05

THe money is there for you if you can prove it

fackinell · 10/05/2015 13:03

Thank you for your comment, Itsonly.

East, can you please post a link
to support your statement?

EastMidsMummy · 10/05/2015 13:02

Fackinell. The million bucks being talked about is the Randi prize. If you cam prove your special powers, you'll get it.

itsonlysubterfuge · 10/05/2015 13:00

I don't understand why you are berating these people for believing what they want to believe. Unless you do the same thing to anyone you find out believes in God? Do you berate them and point out all the flaws in their argument for the bible being the truth? Do you tell them they are stupid by donating to the Church and they are wasting their money? Sometimes when people are upset they need something else to believe in whether it's God, ghosts, or faeries, why do you need to call them out on it?

Also, I'd like to point out that fackinell didn't say she needed to see someone in person to be able to read them, she needed a connection, which would be why she would be able to read a piece of jewellery.
