One that could not be down to cold reading. For example, giving out very specific details such as exact dates, unusual names, basically precise facts that cannot be fished for or guessed and are not vague?

Wow I'm shocked how rude some people have been on this thread. I have had a very accurate reading with specific information that only I knew & no-one else and dates. What he said has happened and it's scary and left me questioning everything.

Watch derron brown on u tube when he goes around with a physic in Liverpool. He is better at it than he is and doesn’t claim to be physic at all. It’s all cold reading.

I went to one after sil died and she knew so many things - so jury is out - they can’t all be up to no good but s lot is guesswork I think as well. Hard to say if I believe or not to be honest and I mean that!

Queenoftheblitz · 30/05/2018 18:23

I had a reading in 2016 through the local spiritualist church. Before i left my house i was playing music and one of the songs was "castles in the air" by Don Mclean - not a particularly well known song.

The pyschic was speaking to my late mum and he said "you were playing music earlier today and I'm getting the line 'I love the country life'".
Which is an exact line from that song.
I've had similar accurate details from other readings.

LivingInLaLaLand · 30/05/2018 18:16

Yes, scarily accurate & I even argued with part of it as it seemed ridiculous. Every single thing was spot on though & very specific, so definitely not cold reading

Had a good reading by Beth Shepherd the famous psychic medium and relationship expert a few years ago, it helped me a lot, have been back twice since then. Am a very sceptical and wary person, not into having this type of thing all of the time. Used to go to a reiki healer regularly also massage and found that very helpful in a different way. Am very into colour healing and crystals too.

SistersOfPercy · 11/03/2016 11:51

I know this is a Zombie, but made me smile today.

Back in 1950 something or other one told my Mum she'd travel, live in the countryside and die in her late 70's. She went to the USA for a holiday twice, lives firmly in a city but can see a hill from the house and turned 80 today.
I'd class that as wrong on all three counts.

BreakingDad77 · 11/03/2016 11:28

Im still on the fence even though just dropped in randomly to a spiritualists church evening, sat down and one of the mediums just pointed right at me, said I had a brother who needed to put off some decision, and said about fathers-father who'd passed away, said his real name (I just new of him as pop as was may years before i was born), which at the time i said I did not recognize.

When I asked parents, they said yes that was his real name...

I've watched a couple of those Psychic Sally type programmes and the same question always occurs to me: why don't these spirits ever give a last name? They're clear enough to say "tell her not to worry about that time she broke the blue mug we bought in Torremolinos in 1973" but not "It's John SMITH here, got a message for Mavis in the back row." The mysteries of the spirit world, eh

CamboricumMinor · 11/03/2016 10:49

I know somebody who is psychic and claims to be able to tell what is going to happen in the future. I think it's bollocks because a) why hasn't she won the lottery and b) why does she worry about her future so much - she is currently stressing over her DS's GCSEs this year in case he doesn't do well.

JoffreyBaratheon · 11/03/2016 10:46

I once went to one out of curiosity.

Most of what she said could be cold reading. But she said a couple of things that can't have been, and were odd. One was - she said to me "You work with colour". I've been a natural dyer for years and was writing a series of articles about dyeing, at the time. (And yes I checked my hands afterwards - no dye stains!) To tell someone they work with colour seems remarkably random!

And another was that there was a dead loved one around me who was a musician. My dad was a semi-professional musician. His day job was much more mundane and if she'd said that it could have been a wild guess but really, how many highly trained musicians are there?

I can't recall anything else she said but I did think at the time everything else could easily have been guesses or cold reading.

My stepmother was told by a psychic - before I was born, I think - that one day she would live in a house with a child who would grow up to be a writer (that's me). But she was a would-be writer a la Barbara Cartland herself and insisted it couldn't have meant me, but must be a mistake and referred to her!

why not start your own thr

IceRoadDucker · 18/02/2016 10:32

I didn't realise psychics had stopped preying on the vulnerable since May 2015, so it's not longer relevant to discuss.

My brother sent me a tape of a psychic reading. The guy was unknown to my brother, he got four family names spot on and mentioned a troubled relationship with my brother and one of his children, which was correct. The spine chilling one was when he said our deceased mum was with her sister and gave the name of her sister. My brother had said previously that bit made no sense as mum didn't have a sister. However, our grandmother had a full term still born girl before my mum, she was named and the psychic got the name right. Nobody but I knew that. It gave me no comfort at all, I was disturbed and felt sad. My brother on the other hand thought it was great. It happened and I still have the recording. Must chuck it!

TTWK · 16/05/2015 13:57

TTWK, why is your opinion the only valid one here, I dont understand you forcing your feelings down others throats?

Why shouldn't I give my opinion? You're quite happy to give yours. I'm not threatened by your opinion, why are you so upset when I give mine?

And who made you the forum police anyway?

As for not being any more correct that anyone else, I happen to think I am. Psychics are either frauds or deluded. There is no third option. If you don't want to hear that, no one is forcing you to read it!

bigbumtheory · 16/05/2015 10:09

I like to believe energy just doesn't disappear but that's personal to me and my belief and a lot of belief is about faith and hope-which sometimes you need. I need to believe my baby existed and a part of him still stays with me even if the horrifically named 'POC' have long gone. I don't know that it's a about a soul as such but I take comfort in the fact that his energy went back into me and didn't just cease to exist because it helps me in my grief. I don't believe if I get pregnant again that that energy will come back, that my lost baby will be reborn but it feels like I can protect him this way at least if I couldn't in others. And I'm getting very emotional just writing it.

It may not be true, it could well be a coping technique, I don't care. It helps.

Likewise, DH believes once you're gone, you're gone.He takes comfort in the fact we had our baby for a short time and sees it as him being no longer in pain.

DH and I feel feel very differently about this, we don't talk about it and debate because we know each belief brings us comfort.

Someone told me they were sorry but both of us were 'wrong' and our baby was still with us in spirit and we'd see at the end of our lives. I resent this and it upset me because it's not truth or fact but again belief, and whose to say someone else is wrong just because of your belief? I also feel unconformable about being faced with a baby I've lost and grieve for a and need to accept being gone, especially when I still feel so terribly guilty that I failed to protect. I would resent if if DH had pushed his thoughts on mine and likewise he'd have resented me if I'd done the same.

Soopermum1 out of interest did he hold your wrist/s? Because Chinese medical diagnosis using traditional methods involves doing it and there's belief that you can tell from careful observation of the body who is prone to certain sicknesses. That's going very off-topic so feel free to PM if you want, I'm just curious.

OP were you planning on having a reading and curious or just interested?

Meerka · 16/05/2015 07:41

Thanks lipsync Ill have a good read of it.

About the Roman record being vast - well it isn't really. It's only a teeny fraction of what was written. There must be countless tens of thousands of notable figures who have been totally forgotten. I suppose in a way it's probably lucky that there were even two contemporaneous references in passing.

I had the impression that rabble-rousing and riot-incitation was a common past time in Palestine. it was a known difficult province to administer iirc?
