Names with strange spellings

I sent a birthday card to the friend of a daughter today then felt bad because I realised that I had addressed her as Sarah Jane instead of Sarah Jayne. I also know of an Allison and a Michele etc.

AIBU to wonder if you think this is an attempt at individuality or just a bit weird?

All those Jaime's, Lyndzy's, Charley's, Conor's, Kaleb's, Katrina's, Lili's, Mae's, Marc's, Kylee's, Chevonne's, Zoey's, Camryn's,

None of them are going to become high court judges!

My name is a forrin spelling so nobody gets it right.
Sarah Jayne is hardly unusual though.

My name is a less common, but still correct, spelling of a more mainstream name. Nobody ever gets it right and it drives me mad. [sigh] But you just learn to live with it.

I've always wondered what the point is too. If you want your childs name to stand out then give them an unusual name because all you are doing by 'jazzing up' the spelling of a traditional name is sentencing the poor bugger to a lifetime of correcting the spelling. Tis madness I tells ye!

My name has an unusual spelling. It is a family spelling - it was my great grandmother's name, and my mother's middle name.

It's such a pain, because I have to spell my (very normal) name out to people all the time.

BTW, I think that Le-a one is an urban myth.

This is a strange one:

She gave her daughter the name le-a (pronounced Ledasha). Made me chuckle. I don't know whether or not it is UR as it is down to personal taste. I wouldn't give my kids confusing names though.

They are mainstream spellings.

I always have difficulty with Rachel - to me it is Rachael.

Aimee et do my head in, it's just left over scrabble letters.

Personally, I think that people giving their kids a name that they then change the spelling of is not individual, but tacky..
