…followed by an email “have a great half term…here’s some homework plus a half term project”…and no doubt another virus.

No, teachers and adults need to stop forcing their views, I always spoke my mind, and will make a formal complaint if anyone speaks to my daughter how I was as a child. I ultimately did exactly what I wanted. I’ll certainly switch to home educating if schools push their agendas too much onto my kids.

Please spread the word. Teachers don’t really have agendas. We teach the curriculum and are too busy trying to get through Maths.

I love how much some people on here cannot cope with a Mum who loves being a Mum! Such harm has been done to women and mothers by modern society.

I have spent a beautiful morning cleaning our home, decorating it for Halloween/half term, getting out themed books, setting up Lego and Aquabeads. I would hate to be at work and miss all this.

That this is now something that is so controversial is bonkers!

You don’t think working mothers love their children.

Does your working DH not love his children?

Nope, as a child myself when teachers asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said a Mum. Unfortunately some people really don’t respect a woman’s choice.

I always wanted to a mum (and DH is a brilliant dad) but also had plans for a career. My parents set us a great example.

What are the schools’ agendas? Getting an education?

Oh the irony…again!!! Please stop. You’re hilarious.
You’re not advocating for choice. You are dogmatically extolling the virtues of one way only.

Primary teachers are, except for our PPA.

Not everywhere in the UK - no PPA here for example. 22.5 hrs classroom time per week out of a standard 35 hr week. 90 minutes less from Aug 27. Not bad for £54,453 after 5 years.

I completely agree with you on this one- you may or may not have consented to photo use within school but I don't believe that consent can/should be transferred to a third party just because it's a linked activity to school.

A number of parents have fed back to school last year about short notice events and such and this year they produced an outline of all the planned activities including those which parents will be invited to.

So I can see for example when the nativity and sports day will be (which are events I'd try to get cover/make a swap with a colleague for) with plenty of warning, and I also don't then feel railroaded into finding a way to get to the 15 minute poetry reading assembly that's two weeks before, because I know I'll be able to go in for the following big event. It's made a big difference and i hope other schools catch on to what is a simple but very helpful idea. We know things might move a bit but if gives you a good idea.

I think that outline of activities throughout the school year is an excellent idea for everyone and should become standard practice everywhere. Sounds great!

@ThankYouNigel

I’m afraid I can’t stop replying because my morning has not been blissfully filled with cleaning the home for my family, decorating for Halloween, or preparing aquarium beads and lego. If I had these joys in my day, I’m sure they would keep me fully occupied and I would not feel so drawn to your descriptions of domestic pleasures. It’s amazing how you fit it all in. Reading mumsnet does bring some joy to my life of doomed and miserable enslavement, probably due to my inferior motherhood performance.

Alas, my morning has been filled with working from home as a slave to the capitalist machine. I will be a frazzled mess at school pick up and my home is not remotely festive. It is however clean, with thanks to the cleaning work that I outsource.

(actually, I’m pretty happy in the round, just having a little joke here)

Primary teachers are, except for our PPA.

Why would you think that would be any different for a secondary teacher? We are in the classroom unless it's PPA time, too 🤷‍♀️

We obviously won’t be. I am disgusted though that our school hasn’t contested this given the rise in AI generated images of children. Hopefully plenty of parents will say no and they’ll need to re-negotiate. Another one to add to my next governor meeting list!

Gosh @ThankYouNigel women can be mums and also have jobs. They also put up Halloween decorations and get out the aquabeads.

twinkletoesimnot · Yesterday 13:34

SirChenjins · Yesterday 11:43

To be fair though, teachers aren't in the classroom the whole day either. It's not a job I would want to do, but equally there are lots of jobs I wouldn't want to do - teaching is either for you or it's not, and there are no shortages of people who want to go into the profession.

Primary teachers are, except for our PPA.

Actually, @ThankYouNigel , I think you have spent your morning winding up mums on mumsnet. 😂

Stop replying to my posts and being so triggered by someone who lives a different life and has different opinions to you. That’s on you.

Yes, @ThankYouNigel has been having fun winding everyone up on this tread. I can understand why so many have fallen for it but I’m sure it’s goady trolling.

Given that there are some keen debaters on here, I’d love your thoughts.

Now, given what a big fan I am of attending these events, I’m actually about to opt mine out of one due to the staff at the public place hosting it photographing and videoing it to put on their public Facebook page! With no option to cover a child’s face with an emoji or stand out of a photo. I am really cross about this, we don’t have our kids on public social media.

Would others expect a choice?

I can post about whatever I like, working mums regular chip in and derail SAHP threads.

I’m making the point that if you are at home then you welcome these lovely invitations and can attend everything with zero stress. Children are excited about these things, they are little, enjoy the children you chose to gave and stop moaning!

I didn't. I was a SAHM for several years and working very part-time and mostly from home when my children were first at primary school. I loathed these school events. I was very involved with and committed to the school but I thought then and still do now that events like this contribute next to nothing to children's education. My children didn't give two hoots about them either.

Given that it upsets the poor kiddies so much to not have parents attend all these assemblies etc etc, surely the humane thing to do would be to not have them? Then nobody gets upset.

I would have been utterly delighted if my children's school had announced that henceforth there would be no events for parents to attend during the school day and no projects set.

SirChenjins · Yesterday 11:58

I agree @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g MIL was a teacher for many years and she said the same thing.
