Liquorice Allsorts

I think Berties taste like intense spogs, not like sponge!

No, wands not fountains.

You can buy both in Asda and I often do... I am like a massive child still in some areas.

The fountains are a tube of sherbet with a stick of licorice to dip in it (and now come in a plastic tube, instead of the paper one, which I cant get used to!). The wands look like a licorice pencil and are filled with a slightly coarser, crystalline sherbet. They're bloody lovely. They come in a package of about 6 and are best in the blackcurrant flavour sherbet imo.

The Bertie Bassetts are my favourite. I think they taste like a sponge but more intensely.

Then the spogs, coconut, solid liquorice, with the sandwiches my least favourite.

I eat least favourite first and save spogs and Berties for last.

Having a bag like your last one would have made me extremely happy!

No fondant to be found anywhere!

I used to love Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts, minus the horrible little pink or blue aniseed ones (yuk?), until about a month ago when I bought 2 big bags and they were full of the pink and blue vile ones, with a handful of the Berties, about 20 plain liquorice, 2 coconut wheels and one chocolate sandwich type across the whole 2 bags.
I complained to Mondelez (who now own Bassetts) and was told that they have fazed out the sandwich type and coconut wheels and that the contents of my two large bags were exactly what they would expect to see now!
So I'm boycotting them and won't ever buy them again unless they put the selection back to what it used to be.
I'm annoyed at this because I've always loved these, no other brands of liquorice is good enough in my mind, so they're now gone from my life, possibly/likely forever.

Spogs?! I always called them the bobbly ones. Never heard the word spog until tonight 🙄 but I've always loved them all including the coconut round ones. I haven't bought them for a very long time because just like Maltesers if I buy a bag or box it's almost impossible to not eat the lot in one evening.

TIL those vile crackly chewy teeth-clagging things are called spogs! Every day’s a school day.

So none of those for me, thanks. Or any of the sandwich ones with a layer of brown that’s weirdly chocolatey and oversweet but also musty tasting. These and all spogs should be discarded/given away immediately.

Remaining Allsorts in order of value:

1 Pink & yellow coconut logs
2 White tubes wrapped in liquorice
3 Three layer B&W sandwiches
4 Plain tubes of liquorice (and Berties, although as a relatively recent thing they don’t belong in the classic line up)
5 Yellow & pink sandwiches

I definitely remember white and pale green mint torpedoes. Also ‘Black and white mints’. You could buy them weighed out at sweet shops. The same as the five layer allsorts but the white layers were minty. My mum loved them. And those hard sticks dipped in cream soda/sherbet crystals.

Was brought up on it as a very young child, love anything to do with liquorice and would happily eat a whole bag in one go.

Love Licorice Allsorts but I do avoid buying them because I can easily eat a whole bag in one sitting! Sometimes allow a bag at Christmas - only a bag and not a box though because I’m the only one that would eat them (which I would enjoy, but my dentist may disagree!).

I miss the fruit allsorts, a lot.

I don't know if I'm remembering correctly, but was there mint liquorice torpedo's - white, light green and darker green ones.
Also I remember the liquorice selection box with a really hard stick of liquorice that had a oval stamp at one end

I wanted to like them but only liked orange ones the others were just pretty to look at

We had these in Norway and loved them so much that I occasionally order them in bulk online (haven’t found anywhere I can buy them in the UK).

The All Sorts gods were looking down on us because I would have been disappointed with your bag!!

I used to like them but they seem very sweet nowadays so rarely have them. It's strange as I like all sorts of other sweet things.

Sainsbury's have the bigger "share" (as if) bag on offer with Nectar price.

Liquorice rock is my favourite!

Bassetts always disappoint me! The sandwiches don’t have a white layer, just pink or brown. Sainsburys or M and S are beautiful though.

So as you forced me to go and buy some I present you with my packet (in order) and I am super lucky as I got two berries and only 2 coconuts. Yum
