Has anyone else seen the news about what’s happening in Portsmouth this evening
A boat has arrived in Hampshire and the protesters from Dover are currently in the sea blocking passage with hundreds more on the quay blocking coaches waiting.

Number of people crossing is also down year to date, not just vessels.

Does it really matter whether the number has gone slightly up or slightly down? The number should be zero. The government could have stopped these boats a long time ago if they’d wanted to.

Importing labour voters? Really?

Irrelevant. Numbers don't matter, only the effect it's having on the people of this country.

Of course numbers matter. The fewer that arrive, the less people here will be affected.

Numbers this year are 40% down. I'd have thought you'd be happy that the numbers are coming down and fewer people here are getting affected by their presence.

Only young male ones apparently

And the people in black? What sex are they?

??? I don't have Twitter

Honestly, get yourself an account. It’s the best way to get actual information about what’s going in the world without the distorting filter of the media.

There are too many people here to stop the effect or to reverse it. The damage is done.

And on the very few occasions when women are also on board they usually arrive dead.

So why are we bothering to cut the numbers then? Might as well just let the boats come, according to your logic.

Now that's just being perverse.

My heart goes out to these people. We are fortunate to be born in this part of thr world. Thats all it is, good fortune.

The government can go on all they like about less people coming in on boats the fact is many people don’t believe this to be the case, we have no idea how many people are in the country illegally and the government (and other governments too) need to be more honest they are not in control of this now

it’s really concerning that is getting to such a point people are taking things into their own hands and this isn’t just in the UK

So people would believe them if the numbers went up but won't believe them if the numbers go down?

Ha. Tin foil hat people.

TheEasterBunny3 · Today 00:09

I work in Portsmouth. Feelings about illegal immigration are already very strong in the city & this won't end quickly. The people there will keep going, the protests will get bigger as more & more join. If the powers that be thought they would manage the landings like how they happen in Dover then they clearly dont know anyone from Pompey!

Twitter is a right wing echochamber. It's full of lies, completely full of them.

It’s not “slightly” down if the 12 months to June there were 33k people crossing and in the first 8 months of this year there were 16k. That’s a difference of thousands, assuming the number of crossings drops off into the autumn/winter as the weather worsens.

You can't argue with wilful stupidity.

You are allowed to discuss this. And here we are discussing it.

But the elements of mystery, conspiratorialism and heroic persecution are important ingredients in the drama.

Twitter is a skip fire of Russian bots. If you want unfiltered news maybe just talk to actual humans

Have you seen the new world map projection the UN wants to adopt? It shows countries at their true relative size. It’s quite striking when you compare the UK and Africa.

how mysterious! Why aren’t we allowed to discuss it? Who is stopping us? Is Mumsnet part of a global conspiracy?

Where do you think those on Twitter (sic) get their info? Do they just pull information out of their arses?

Oh, hang on......

Exactly. They don't know Portsmouth. There will be a warm welcome when hell freezes over. Even I'm scared in daylight some days. I'm WB!

Tried to tell them this years ago on this site. They nearly fainted with outrage and horror. There are literally hundreds of millions of people actively using Twitter every day and you can get news from absolutely all spheres. They're listening to the Beeb and the Guardian and have no idea at all what is actually going on out there.
