Has anyone else seen the news about what’s happening in Portsmouth this evening
A boat has arrived in Hampshire and the protesters from Dover are currently in the sea blocking passage with hundreds more on the quay blocking coaches waiting.

No, fewer people arriving.

But that's not something certain groups want you to hear.

Yeah, tiny numbers, don’t worry about it, nothing to see here. It’s only 16.513 from 1 Jan to 1 Sep. Fuss about nothing.

how mysterious! Why aren’t we allowed to discuss it? Who is stopping us? Is Mumsnet part of a global conspiracy?

Portsmouth is no where near Dover. How did they get so far?

Not the best place to receive a warm.welcome as a AS was charged with raping a 14 year boy in Portsmouth this week.

So awful, poor boy.

Why though?

Read the thread. Not allowed to discuss the reason.

Oh dear. No wonder the locals are pissed off. I'm having trouble keeping up with all the sex attacks.

The small boats that have gone from 50 people to 180 people per boat.

Yeah. Less boat, just more people.

Number of people crossing is also down year to date, not just vessels.

Almostreadyforautumnnow · Yesterday 23:56

smallglassbottle · Yesterday 23:48

They're being brought in. This isn't some sort of rescue. It's so obvious.

Why though?

HRTQueen · Yesterday 23:56

The government can go on all they like about less people coming in on boats the fact is many people don’t believe this to be the case, we have no idea how many people are in the country illegally and the government (and other governments too) need to be more honest they are not in control of this now

it’s really concerning that is getting to such a point people are taking things into their own hands and this isn’t just in the UK

We’re not allowed to talk about it on here, are we?

By whom? To what end?

It’s far more likely the authorities were made aware a boat was en route, given it’s a busy shipping lane, and have had time to make provision to safely accommodate people rather than have them disperse completely, especially if they have been made aware of the likelihood of some kind of protest. It’s to nobody’s benefit to have people stood out in water in the dark, whether they came on the boat or are trying to stop the boat.

smallglassbottle · Yesterday 23:53

PamelaShipman80 · Yesterday 23:52

Being brought in why? I’m glad to hear people are there at least trying to do something!

We're not allowed to talk about why. You'll have to use your imagination or head over to X.

PerkingFaintly · Yesterday 23:52

Is this the boat the French were shadowing for 10 hours earlier today? But deemed it too dangerous to attempt to stop while on water.

So they've been dealt with on the British side instead?

Are the boats carrying refugees, people escaping violence, war and poverty?

In France????

PinguMoll · Yesterday 23:52

PerkingFaintly · Yesterday 23:46

Because small boat arrivals are down this year.

This doesn't suit those groups who need "stop the boats" as a recruitment tool, so they're upping the drama while they can.

😂 The boats arriving and the government having everything ready for the “asylum seekers” is orchestrated, not the demonstrations 😂

smallglassbottle · Yesterday 23:48

ShakeMeUpJudie · Yesterday 23:35

Yet the authorities were all ready and waiting with coaches and tents. Really makes you think, doesn’t it?
