I have looked into this. According to a You Gov poll in July 2026, 50% of the British public believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, 17% believe that Israel is not committing genocide and the remaining respondents were unsure.

This is no longer just a far-left fringe view. There is some good reporting from Alex Crawford from Sky News on Gaza. There is a reason why Israel won't let journalists into Gaza. They have too much to hide.

you really have proved the vacuousness of the case for alleged genocide. You haven’t presented any data, or refuted any of the statements I made, you’ve just made an apparent claim that if enough people believe it, it must be true. Which proves what exactly? That if you can get enough momentum behind an idea it becomes fact? You do realise that Nazi propaganda was based explicitly on the notion that if you repeat something enough, people will believe it. Your arguments and those of your fellow genocide libel believers would seem to demonstrate this. You aren’t making any case, you basically saying, ‘but it’s true, look everyone believes it’s true so it must be!’ Everyone used to believe in witches, that homosexuality was wrong and that priests and police were inherently trustworthy, and that the world was flat. Were these all true? Did they only stop being true when enough people stopped believing them?

And journalists have been in Gaza. This must be one of the most extensively covered wars in history. Which is why the genocide libel is so easily disproved. There is so much data to disprove it.

You know where only about three journalists have been though? The tunnel network of Hezbollah, the companion terrorists of Hamas. You know why only about three journalists have been? Because Hezbollah told journalists that they would kill the media colleagues ( reporting in Lebanon) of any media company who sent journalists into the tunnel networks

I think whether a genocide has been committed needs to be judged by a court using witness statements, expert evidence etc. It will take years to get such a legal judgement and obviously we can't predict what the court's finding will be.

It’s all relative

Precisely my point

I can’t get all nationalist or superior about it personally

I’d rather aspire to making the world safe for all women, and not get so bogged down on how countries compare

Comparing the U.K. to arguably one of rhe worst countries proves what exactly

Edited

Which country would you compare the West to where women's lives are better?

Its not nationalistic to acknowledge what is good about a society. We pour millions into other countries to try and help women achieve the equality we enjoy in the west in areas such as education for example.

Frankly, looking at this thread it seems like so many of you virtue singing idiots have no idea of what evil is. Pathetic.

How does “virtue singing” go then? Can you hum it for us?

Sorry I just don’t like the word ‘superior’. Of course the taliban are atrocious. But they have been enabled.

1 in 4 women will be abused in this country. And a woman is murdered once every 3 days. Sure, we’d all prefer to live here obviously but let’s not pretend there aren’t huge problems here. The most dangerous place for a woman is still her home here in England.

So Brown people are so easily led that they aren't really evil ( too stupid maybe? Misguided?Led astray by intellectually superior White people? Innocent savages that just need a bit of good ole exposure to nice Liberal Left White people to be able to behave in the correct way?) This is how the Green Party have managed to align themselves with religious fundamentalist effectively Hard Right Islamists. They think they just need to be exposed to Right Think and they will turn away from their silly religious superstitions because they see themselves as the intellectual superiors in the partnership. Historically they have been the ones bested by their own patronising arrogance and have ended up flag waving the Far Right into power.
I agree that people like Trump and the rolling back of abortion rights is horrific. But having to go to another state to have an abortion is a travesty in the West precisely because Western society has moved away from state imposed stoning rape victims to death for adultery if they get pregnant by their rapist.

I think we can judge our own culture only by comparing it to others. And when we do compare our culture to others its clearly superior in the area of women's rights. But that doesn't mean our culture is perfect.

Its like Churchill said, democracy is the worst form of government expect for all the others (I mangle his quote a bit).

It’s ok, we are all entitled to our opinions. I simply can’t feel superior knowing what I know about women’s safety in this country, even though of course women in Afghanistan have it much, much worse, it’s on another league.

Erm The United Nations, World Health Organization etc all have confirmed a genocide. No idea what you’re talking about

How can these bodies have confirmed this, when genocide is a legal issue determined by a court. A UN mandate has made accusations that is all. It is in no position to confirm anything. The UN is a highly political body, not a neutral onbe. It’s mandate has no legal standing. The WHO is a public health body and has no ‘confirmed ‘ this as this is completely out of their remit. If you are going to throw around accusations of ‘genocide being confirmed’, ypu should fact check what that phrase actually means. It’s a legal term, with legal meanings that is ruled on by a court.

For there to be a legal ruling of genocide the INTENT is crucial. A group who wants to kill an entire ethnic group/ nation of people etc but does not have capacity to kill them all can still be guilty of genocide. Under this, the Hamas attack of Oct 7th arguably are genocidal as it seems clear they would have killed all Israelis if they had the capacity ( they don’t hide their intent to Israelis). However, Israel very clearly does have the ability to kill all Gazans and yet the official death rate from Hamas’s own figures, (which includes all deaths not those who have died as a result of war, so around a fifth are accounted for by causes other than war, and includes combatants) is under 80k of a population of 2.1million. The war, thanks entirely to Israel, has the lowest civilian to combatant death rate of any urban war - how is that genocide? Israel took huge steps to warn civilians of upcoming attacks ( unlike Hamas attacks on Israel) so they could flee and live, enabled food to get to the population, created a humanitarian corridor for people to return home, and undertook polio vaccination of Gazan children. None of that is consistent with genocide.

Demonising Jews with false accusations of grotesque crimes of genocide or ‘child/ baby killers’ is however consistent with anti/-Semitism. You may not be aware that accusing Jews of killing children is an anti-Semitic libel thar has existed since at least the Middle Ages.

Why is Trump worse than Putin?

I think Putin is still "there" in a mental sense whereas Trump seems to be suffering from Parkinson's or something.

I get your point don't worry. But I think the number of women attacked in their own home in the UK will be significantly smaller than attacks on women in Afghanistan. Otherwise what on earth have UK mothers been teaching all their sons!? Or are you implying that the way a British man treats his wife is the same as a member of the Taliban for example.

Yes women are attacked in their own homes in the UK. That's a seperate point that stands alone. We can't rest on our laurels.

But it remains the case that the UK is superior place for a woman than Afghanistan. The West is obviously superior in the round for a woman (despite attacks on women in their own home).

It’s ok, we are all entitled to our opinions. I simply can’t feel superior knowing what I know about women’s safety in this country, even though of course women in Afghanistan have it much, much worse, it’s on another league.

Blimmikit · Yesterday 17:21

There are too many.

What's worse, someone, like Trump who is complicit in the suffering of people but likely doesn't have it in them to physically hurt someone themselves or people like Rose West who is actually capable of physically abusing her own children? Or the Nottingham Student murderer or someone like Chris Watts? Or those monsters that killed their adopted baby boy, you can't get much more evil than them.

Pineneedlesincarpet · Yesterday 17:15

Greenwoodmac · Yesterday 17:08

yes I’m aware. Netanyahu is enabled by Trump

Ok, if you are aware then you have revealed your politics. You are anti -West, and therefore anyone you hate must be West and bingo! Suddenly a leader you dislike of a middle eastern country must be a Western leader.

What a lying, dishonest person you. Nothing says, ‘my world view is ideological made up bollocks’ like publicly stating a middle eastern leader is the leader of a Western country because your political ideology means you have to.

I hope you are still a student and have time to grow out of this juvenile world view.

If you are a fully grown adult, how are you not ashamed to still think so cretinously?

But we are superior in this area. Some cultures are superior to others. That's just a fact. The Afghan treatment of women is not just "different" and worthy of being judged as equal to the Western treatment of women. It is inferior by any judgment of any civilised person. Same as any culture where women are treated as chattels and are executed becuase they were raped.

In your previous post you have stated that there's no genocide in Gaza so I wouldn't trust your opinion on anything, certainly not the British left.

However, I probably agree that Farage isn't the most evil person in the world. I believe that accolade goes to Ben Gvir and Smotrich. Their sheer depravity and blood lust knows no bounds. They pinned little brooches in the shape of nooses to their lapels when voting for a new law to bring back hanging but only for Palestinians. They are monsters.

There isn’t a genocide in Gaza and if you were curious enough to look into this, you’d realise this too.
