Are there some things that you cannot learn?

Instagram. I just can't figure it out and I don't know why. Everyone else in the world seems to be able to master it.
And Greek. That bloody alphabet...

Knitting. Never did. Never will.

My left from my right. Always have to think about it

Yes. There are.

I can knit but many, many people have tried to teach me to crochet and I just can't get my head round it. I feel cack handed with one needle.

Crochet. I just cannot do it. I have tried several times. I was told it is easier than knitting, which I already do.

I was lied to.

Names. I have to put sooooo much effort into remembering them. Once I’m not seeing that person regularly then they disappear like smoke. Since I teach this is a real problem!

Trampolining. Lesson one: Bounce up and down on the cross… me: bounces everywhere but the cross.

It does get harder as you age imo.

I generally think it’s motivation more than ability. I attempted to learn Chinese and couldn’t get anywhere with it, but I don’t even have a trip planned so it cost me nothing to give up.

I have never believed there is anything I couldn’t learn. I am very patient. My DH said I could never learn to do art . I’m improving all the time.

I do remember being at a friend’s house and her dc age 8 had a pogo stick and at one point in the evening dd1 was pogoing perfectly (same age). The dc who owned it then tried and failed and got frustrated that my dd could do it and she couldn’t. Her dad pointed out that my DD had patiently practiced over more than an hour so her 2 minutes wasn’t likely to have the same result.

Maths
It just doesn't make sense to me at all , even very basic maths.

I can’t read music. At school I felt like the only one who couldn’t. I’ve tried as an adult and I can’t do it

I am exactly the same with Instagram…I just don’t get it 🤦‍♀️

To sing in tune. To the regret of all around me I'm still trying....

I have Instagram and follow people and greyhounds but I haven't a clue how to post on it. Everybody I know posts videos with music, captions and things to tap and see thd finished result etc but I wouldn't know where to start.

I’m learning Greek and think the alphabet makes sense in terms of how you then pronounce the words! The first sound of the letters “name” is how you pronounce it in the word….in the main!

I think we’re in an age where everyone expects to be an autodidact, but we have forgotten that good teachers aren’t always the people who are naturally brilliant at the thing . Often it takes someone who has struggled to master a thing themselves to be able to teach it really well, as they understand the hurdles . It feels like we should be able to learn everything by YouTube but in reality sometimes we need a really clever real person. Some people absolutely do not , they thrive in the current climate. Everything I have mastered I have been patiently taught and learning this about myself has been quite the revelation. I believe you can master most things with the right teacher .

I can crochet too.

I tried to learn Japanese during lockdown on Duolingo and I just couldn't progress with it. I couldn't tell the symbols apart adequately. Odd as I can read music fluently, draw accurately and read a bit of Greek, so it's not lack of visual awareness.

Another one for crochet 🙈 I just can’t do it! I’m left handed but can knit the “normal” right handed way. Cannot crochet with either my left or right hand 🙄

I consider myself a fairly competent computer user and a decent learner. Trying to learn Blender made me physically sick. I cried multiple times. I gave up after two days.

AI is obviously terrible and stealing our job's and making us dumber etc, but we’re not far from being able to make 3D models from plain text instructions and I am grateful for that.

Play the piano 😭
I tried to teach myself as a kid and then again as an adult but my hands just don’t work together. No co-ordination. I also can’t really ‘dance’ although I’ve no desire to master that as a skill. To be fair I’ve no longer got the desire to master playing the piano but both my nephews passed grade 7 and listening to them play is absolutely beautiful.

Also instagram, the captions, the matching music, I just can’t do it!

I think things that require a specific talent or skill- art, sports, dance , singing, comedy etc can be learnt in a limited way but with out talent you are never going to excel in it.
a lot of things - learning a language, instrument etc are better learnt young. The older you get the harder it is to develop new skills although not impossible.
I am hopeless at directions, remembering faves/ names, thinking under pressure.
