I saw this post elsewhere today.

I heard Simon Mayo playing Coming Up by Wings today. Not heard it for years, my dad used to think he was singing Tommy Yogurt

Other gems included ....

Macy Gray - I wear goggles when you are not here

DJ Luck & MC Neat - Ali with the mittens on, Ali with the mittens on (repeat several times)

The Wanted - She can't sing, she can't dance, but who cares, she walks like my nanna

Wife of a postman instead of wife of a close friend Carly Simon your so vain Blush

chattyness · 06/08/2026 19:41

"You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, 4 hundred children had a crap in the field"

Still not sure if that was misheard or if we made it up as naughty children to annoy/embarrass the parents while we fell about laughing 😆

Blanknotebook · 06/08/2026 19:33

I was doing the ironing singing “I’m honey, honey, honey, honey!” I thought it was about a sweet person. My young son asked me to stop singing that song, it was actually “I’m horny!” I soon shut up!

When my DD was about 12 she asked what song I used a play a lot, the only bit she could remember was it was about a Cilla Black fan on a bike

Turned out it was Meatloafs Bat out of Heĺl and it's a silver Black phantom bike

Shes now in her 40s and we've never let her live it down 😅

TisEye · 06/08/2026 18:59

That club classic Nightcrawlers one 'Push the Feeling on'

Apparently the lyrics were:
'Oh 'n their lives again
Oh 'n their lives will pull us...'

I genuinely thought it was
'I lives again
To lie in a pool of sperm'

Early 00's Dance wasn't really about the words.

You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate. Bearing in mind I was only about 10 or 11 at the time,I thought he was singing 'I believe in Malcolm',not 'I believe in miracles'.

I believe in Murco

A 4yo singing Beyonce:

"All the singlets! All the singlets."

And she did the dance too, it was hilarious and her version has been my version ever since.

My daughter thought this was ‘singer legs’. we also spent a long time trying to work out what the dragon song was - she thought ‘Moves like Jagger’ was ‘Moves like dragon!’!!

MarilynMerlot · 06/08/2026 18:03

Daft Punk - Get Lucky. That tech-voice repeat of ‘we’re up all night to get’ in the middle sounds exactly like ‘we’ll rob a mexican’

Jojo was a man who thought he was a woman, but he knew it couldn't last"

Its sweet Loretta Martin (in the next verse) thought she was a woman but she was another man.
So easy mix up.

AnchorWHAT · 06/08/2026 15:30

When i called you last night from Tesco 😳

Nearlyadoctor · 06/08/2026 10:08

Lilly Allen - Fuck you lyrics. I heard it as thank you and Dd who was only just 2 and I used to sing it driving to nursery in the mornings.

“ Thank you - thank you very very muuuuuch”

Goodness what anyone would have thought if heard the song as we arrived !! 😂

CuriousKangaroo · 06/08/2026 09:20

“My lover’s got no money, he’s got his chubby knees”

and

”I have to praise you like a shoe”

CosiFannyTutte · 06/08/2026 09:16

Knights in white satin.
Reverend Blue Jeans.

This year, to semi-frontiers, you gave it to someone special. ('Last Christmas').

Also: He's got his trombolese.

Potatoelephant · 06/08/2026 09:12

My mum always thought bat out of hell was “like a battery hen”

we still call it that

Making love in a femidom. Apparently it's were giving live in a family dose. I'm not convinced.

And 'my lovers got no money, he's got his trombloese'

I don't know what a trombloese is but I will never be convinced it's some nonsense about strong beliefs

Don’t forget they stapled the vicar in the same song….

i always thought Madonna was singing ‘Last night I dreamt of lumbago…’

MrsGusset · 06/08/2026 08:37

The Three Degrees – My Simple Heart sounds exactly like they're singing My Pimple Hurts

Flashdance: Take your pants down, and make it happen...

Kryten1958 · 06/08/2026 08:12

Driving in the car and playing The Eagles “Take it easy” on the car audio. We were all singing along but my two young DS on the back seat were singing.

“Well, I'm running down the road
Trying to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover
Who’s just like my mother
She's so hard to find”

Cantyouseethishorselovesme · 06/08/2026 07:36

Another Abba one from when my son was younger:

'You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seven teeth.'

REDB99 · 06/08/2026 07:29

My DD aged about 4 ‘The bears of sesame’ instead of the ‘bear necessities’. Still makes me smile.

Isn't it that?

I thought it was that too! But just checked. I thought it was going to be “thought he LOVED a woman” .

But turns out it was “thought he was a loner”…who knew?!
