Latest @yougov poll calls into question the #labourlosingwomen narrative. Women Labour voters are up five percentage points from last week's poll (40 to 45). Possible a blip not a trend?

Westminster voting intention:

LAB: 41% (+2)
CON: 40% (-3)
LDEM: 8% (-)
UKIP: 4% (+1)
GRN: 2% (-1)

via @YouGov, 12 - 13 Feb

Who knows what sex they are? Possibly useless stats not a trend.

Follow the link to the data, voters are classified into groups, m/f age etc..

People can click whatever M/F button they want.

Useless stats.

Isn't this one of the key problems with self ID?

There were a number of stories in the press last week, capitalising on the 'Labour Losing Women' poll drop. I can guarantee you, you will not see one story in the press recording the bounce back. There's a reason for that.

I know I keep banging on about it, but the Labour party is where we can all make a difference. They are likely to be the next government. Bad policy, such as self-id, can be stopped by the unions and conference delegates voting it down. By piling the pressure on in CLPs and on MPs. But the absolute power over what happens in the Labour party is in the hands of conference delegates.

I am Fully Aware that the zeitgest in the party, and yes amongst its leadership, is pro-self id. Only campaigning and lobbying and going to conference and VOTING will change that. Do not blame me, I didn't invent this system, but this is the way it works. The leadership has reached out now and wants to listen to our concerns we will keep you informed on that, when we can.

I have written to my Labour MP. I will make an appointment to see him to follow up.

This bounce in the polls could just as easily be manipulation. I will make sure my MP knows that they no longer have a clue about M/F due to the gender nonsense they are implementing EVERYWHERE.

I respect your opinion and the work you are trying to do but labour lost me and will continue to lose women until they can treat us with respect

Good stuff mouth and trousers. Give him hell. ;-)

Sorry about link, try this. Previous weeks' poll results are on the you gov website. Last week's voting intention was male labour voters 39, female 40. This week's is male 36, female 45.

Yes, so all the blokes voted as women this week!

Yes that's a great question how on earth will we ever know who is actually male or female in polls if self-ID goes through?

Report
Mouthandtrousersall · 16/02/2018 14:20

How will we know anything about sex stats anywhere?

The gender pay gap just disappeared.

Equal pay? Hahaha.

I can't share the optimism about Labour.
The Lily Madigan affair shows just how deeply welded the party is to this ideological trend and determined to follow down the Canadian route. I can't see them dropping self-ID when so many prominent members, women in particular, have taken the 'transwomen are women' credo to heart and fully supported LM.
The Tories on the other hand are nothing if not politically expedient. I think if there is a whiff that self-ID might not be the easy vote winner they thought in helping them look more socially forward-thinking and yoof friendly, then they may well quietly file it under B for bin.

Or now? In this climate, phone pollsters aren't likely to challenge self declared bio data, and online individuals can declare as they like without questions. I wonder whether polling companies have policies on this?

Everyonematters · 16/02/2018 14:23

The fact that stats like male vs female voting intentions would become essentially meaningless is the whole problem with self-ID. In fact by Labour's current standards anyone gender fluid and labour supporting who 'feels like a woman' today is going to tick the female box, so who knows how accurate they are today anyway?

And Jeremy Corbyn doesn't even seem prepared to meet a perfectly reasonable group like WPUK to discuss perfectly reasonable concerns about this very issue.

I looked at joining labour but a. I'm afraid of being put on a list of I tweet my opinion in this and b. There is no gender category for me as I am not a 'self-defining' woman.

I think we have to acknowledge that Stonewall et al have rewritten polices everywhere to ram the transgender agenda home. If we don't wake up to this now......

Yep. An end to data collection on sex. This derails the possibility of naming and finding solutions for the problem of sexism. No more accurate data collection on male violence, pay inequality. Self-id obscures the reality of women as a political class, defined by sex and living as second class citizens. Fuckiing terrifying isn't it.

I agree with this. There are a lot of Labour virtue-signallers who just won't listen.

I also think that if women join and vote for Labour despite the party's support of self-ID, nothing will change. Parties want to win votes. #Labourlosingwomen was powerful for that very reason.

So 3% of men voted as women in this weeks poll.

Self-identifying makes these stats completely non-news. Of course there's no write-up.

I was just looking at a SUNSAIL sailing course for women, I know from the swimming thread that the RYA are now totally transed and so its not really a sailing trip for women, it's a sailing trip for women and men pretending to be women. And if I said anything about now wanting to sail with men on a women's course I would be told I am a bigot. Despite wanting to go on a women's sailing course, which is what they are advertising.

Senior people in the party are concerned about whether self-ID might mean a Men's Rights Activist takes advantage.

How do Labour know the difference between an MRA and a transwoman standing for say a woman's officer position? If an MRA was standing in disguise as woman's officer's position how might they act? If a biologically female officer started a group entitled 'down with biological women' and complained about the prevalence of panels only representing biological women, and then asked people to send her cute clothes what would we think?

Let alone the fact I'm not even clear if they check whether the woman's officer is legally a woman under current law.

Labour are TAKING THE PISS at the moment and anyone outside of the Westminster bubble of crazy can see that.

This doesn't mean that anyone pointing this out hates Corbyn. some people saying it might hate him. Others pointing it out used to or still do love him.

Whichever it is still a massive problem for women. What is he going to do about it?!?

Jennifer, what is Corbyn saying on this? SURELY he can see the problem and wants to do something about it? Can we have some reassurance?

As everyone else has pointed out Labour's stance on self id makes this meaningless. Plus TAs are so underhanded that I don't trust these stats. I'm sure anyone who saw the poll last week and wanted to influence it has just identified themself as a woman this week.
