DS1 has quickly ploughed his way through all of Harlan Coben's books and the Jack Reacher series, can anyone suggest another author for him to consider. I have given him some Grisham which he hasn't started yet but as we are going on holiday on Friday I want to get him at least one other author in case he finds the Grisham plots a bit ... ummm ... mundane?
Many thanks.

John Connolly. Get "Every Dead Thing", 'tis bloody good. It's the first in a series of about 10 novels (plus one novella) about a detective. Mr C is a very sick man. Great thriller writer though...

Robert Crais
Michael Connelly
Dennis Lehane's Kenzie/Gennaro series
John Sandford's Prey and then the Virgil Flowers series (that's about 30 books, so should keep him busy!)

Jeffrey Deaver, Kathy Reichs, Clive Cussler are my top 3.

I second Sandford and Dennis Lehane. John Conolly very very dark as series progresses. Did anyone say Karin Slaughter? Female perspective might be too female. Early Jonathan Kellerman, his wife forget first name actually better I think

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions. I'm on the case! Smile

Mark Billingham and Peter James maybe? I second Lehane and John Connolly, my favourite of all being dennis Lehane. Also Christopher Brookmyre might appeal, very funny and readable.

Patricia Cornwell?
Second vote for J.Kellerman..loads of titles to choose from by him.

LivingDead · 25/10/2011 23:52

Actually I started reading Dennis Lehane at about the same age as your son and loved them I cannot believe it was that long ago, Darkness Take my Hand came out in 1996 so I would have been 15 Shock.

Hope I'm not too late to suggest Matthew Reilly - he's a bit far fetched but quite good fun!

James Pattersons earlier works are good, nothing recent mind you - they are all a bit pants.

JD Robb is good, and is 'shock horror' a girl but the books are set in the future and are about a NY city cop and her husband who is a former criminal turned good-guy multi-squillionaire. Girl-cop kicks arse and is a good female role model (although these books are a tad saucy!)

Nelson Demille - 1000% please get his books.

Nelson DeMille agrees with TasteLi
Michael Crichton - Prey is a good starting one
Carl Hiaasen (sp?) - Sick puppy also funny
David Baldacci

I like James Patterson and Tess Geritson. Tess Gerritson is sort of medical investigations. Really good
