I just posted this on the last thread, turns out there have been loads of Chicago numbers before, Anita and Gleb did cell block tango, and Georgia and JV did hot honey rag , both from last year, Lisa Riley did a charleston to all that jazz and there was a pro dance to cell block tango seven years ago.

Thanks for those links. Loved gleb and Anita's tango. Also shows how less glitzy and show dancy the pro dances used to be.

Fiderer very mixed this year I feel. There have been some lovely moments, Joanne (though not in the first few weeks) and Oti stand out for me, but there seems to be less and less "proper" dance content each series. Far too much emphasis on shoehorning the dances to fit a "theme" rather than letting them speak for themselves.

SapphireStrange - on the previous thread you asked:

OnlyLiving, why do you say Will Y was a prima donna? Is there a story about him leaving? [nosey]

Only a couple of tabloid-rag stories suggest prima donna tendencies, so who actually knows the truth? - one about him insisting that Karen make a twelve hour round trip to Cornwall (because London had too much "negative energy") for training, only to not turn up to the session. The other, of course, is the story that he has refused to take part in the group dance in the final.

There are also suggestions that he left because he had been expecting the win to be in the bag and dropped out in a huff when he saw the calibre of the other contestants (specifically Danny) but that really is just unsubstantiated rumour.

Well, I spent the first few bars of Elaine Paige shouting at the telly, 'But it's a young woman's song! You should be singing Memory!' Then the incomparably gorgeous Natalie arrived and I didn't care about anything else. But it got me thinking later about fantastic parts in musicals for older women. Grizabella, of course, and Spider Woman/Aurora, which I think was written for the then-60-year-old Chita Rivera - oh, and that makes me think of Anna, also written for her. Some great ones out there. I have a soft spot for Evita because it was one of the first (of very many) musicals I saw on student standby - but come on Elaine, there so many wonderful songs that suit who you are and how you sing now.

I surprised myself by shedding a small tear when Rob RInder thanked Oxana last night. He was either very genuine or an extremely proficient actor (or both, I suppose) - and Oxana looked pretty overcome. I hope she's back next year. I watched Ore's dance long enough to feel very sorry for those poor dancers having to be flowers/sweets or whatever they were - they looked absolutely ridiculous and must have been mortified. I think they should get together with the instrumentalists from Andre Rieu's toilet roll orchestra (thanks, Monkseal!) and form a union against demeaning costumes.

The show is supposed to be "Can't dance. Learns to dance."
Is it? Where does it say that?
I thought it was about celebrities with a wide range of backgrounds learning to perform specific dances.

Cave, I agree about the showy choreography and over-reliance on themes and stupid costumes. I yearn for the days of a simple set and a good dance. [gimmer]

OnlyLiving, thanks for that! I hadn't seen the one about him insisting that Karen make a twelve hour round trip to Cornwall only to not turn up to the session. Shock

Or that he has refused to take part in the group dance in the final, although I have been speculating about this.

Thanks for the new thread.

G&G's Hot Honey Rag Charleston is one of my favourite ever dances on Strictly. The joy in Georgia's face as she danced was so lovely to see. I wanted them to win.
