If you have blue eyes would you wear brown/beiges as eyeshadow?

I am so crap with this and never know what colours to wear. If I am going out I usually use a brown/beige combo with black mascara but always feel like my eye make up is crap!

I have tried greyish colours with black to do the smokey eyes thing and i end up looking like a barbie doll.

So what colour would you wear - dark brown hair and blue eyes?

I have always found brown makeup (eyeshadow / bronze toned blusher etc) to suit my blue eyes.

I have blue/grey eyes and dark red hair and wear beige and brown and I do also wear dark grey on an evening over a silvery base colour.

I avoid pinks/purples/blues as they make me look like I've had a punch up or have a nasty eye infection.

I did go through a stage of wearing a turquoise eye pencil (it was a Bourjois one) smudged on the edge of my eyelid which brought a few compliments from other ladies so I might give that another go soon.

Buy yourself a cheap eye shadow palette in Superdrug or Boots and just experiment and practice.

what colour is your skin/hair?
I am irish sort of colouring - ie pale skin, dark hair, blue eyes
Goldy bronzy eyeshadow with black eyeliner or very dark brown eyeliner is defo the best for me + black eyeliner

i like gold eyemake up for night, or brown for day - sets off blue eyes perfectly.

I avoid pnks and greens for same reason as technofairy...looks like illness or punch up results.

My fave is bourjois 'les ors' palette - start off by dabbing the dark coour close to the lashes, then the midle colour on the bit that covers the eyeball itself, then the white to the eyebrow to create a really large eye.

if you're doing eyeliner it helps to do really thin lines to avoid the barbie look, easier with liquid than with pencil..

sigh< you know it's a full year since i last had an occasion to wear make up.

I agree with the others - a bronze/gold/brown/taupe eyeshadow is very flattering with blue eyes. Sometimes I near a navy liquid liner in a very fine line just UNDER my upper eyelashes (i.e. in my eyelid) with a smudged taupe liner just above the lash line. This makes the whites of my eyes appear brighter and 'cuts' the yellowness of the eyeshadow a bit (but it must be done very subtly).

I don't know how fair your skin is but black mascara may be a bit too harsh? I am very fair-skinned and find it too ageing.

I agree that pink/purply colours are generally to be avoided but I do make an exception for Laura Mercier's 'margaux' eyeshadow, which looks mauve in the compact but I wear it over a champagne-coloured base and it comes out a beautiful and flattering smoky colour.

Have you tried khaki? Can be very flattering, specially if it has a golden gleam.

I wear golds, beiges, browns, and I have a gorgeous green, its quite dark but really suits. I also wear a glittery white.

thanks for replies so far.

I have tried gold - it was a MAC one, but it looked a bit orangey and made my eyes look as though i had been crying! Think i need a browner gold colour if you see what I mean.

I am going out this Friday and really want my make up to look good.

CD my hair is very dark brown in a chin length bob and skin is a tiny bit tanned at the moment from hols, but not too much to change skin colouring!

you see i do fancy a green - i love greens. My friend wears it but she has brown eyes.

My dress is deep red - does that make any difference?

I think it depends on what look you're after. Blues can look good but personally I don't like blue eye make up on me (I've got dark brown hair and blue eyes too).

Browns and beiges are great for a natural look.

I think plummy colours (or lilacs and bright purples if you want a more made up look) really suit blue eyes. Much more than blue make up. If you get the shade right I think it looks really natural and flattering and brings out the blue in your eyes. Try a nice, soft, dark plum/aubergine colour.

Bronze/copper colours really make blue eyes stand out but I'm not crazy about them for me.

Greys don't work that well on me either but I guess they can work with blue eyes if you do it all smokey and matte.

Basically you can wear any colour but I'd steer away from blues and greens!

triffictits you will either be warmer coloured (so yellow based, gold, brown etc) or cooler coloured (pink, blue, red). i have got green eyes and look best in blue, purple, silver, grey...

never black unless you have very dark hair, always dark brown.

i have medium ish brown hair blue eyes and tanned skin.

Find a lot of clours work really. Browny golds etc always good. Green or teal/turquiosy colours look great i think.

Sometimes i wear a aqua blue eyeliner and that looks nice.

Try no 7 eye shadows, they do a few truffley shimmery colours which are really easy to wear. I always seem to get compliments when I wear the Whestsheaf one which is a shimmery beige and goes with everything.

I have lots of smokey colours, browns, greys and purples. I sometimes use a Jemma Kidd silver eye pencil which I got free with a magazine once, and now love, or a turquoise one but in a subtle way. I steer very clear of blues, greens and pinks though.

Great lots of help on here.

Now, can anyone recommend a nice gold colour - I want it to be a browny gold rather than an orangey gold if you know what I mean.

I'm going shopping and would love some recommendations.

oooh, one other thing, I have a lovely MAC brown eyeliner that it almost like a hazel brown, but when i wear it, within a couple of hours it has smudged under my eyes without me touching it...very weird, but how can i stop this happening?

Haven't read all the replies but I've got grey/blue eyes, brown hair and I'm loving purple at the moment, only a pale lilac colour on the bottom lid then a gorgeous purple eye pencil just along the lashes. Also love greens too.

Most of my eye makeup is Avon these days - not much good when you're going out shopping for it though!

Im blue eyed and dark hair colour...I NEVER wear browns and beiges. Imo there are much nicer colours that you can wear to suit you so why not wear them.

Not alot of people can get away with "colours" you can so do it!
I wear MAC eye pigments and love the colours they have. I wear purples, lilacs, pinks and even green. I don't resemble a drag queen and imo I think it always looks nice.

I get lovely comments and I think they brighten up my eyes and give me character. Looks stunning.

I think I wore bronw for my wedding, applied by a makeup artist. Must admit it looked lovely BUT ime hard to apply and I can never get it right...

Give colours a try and se how you go.
