Vitamin c serum

Can anybody recommend a good vit c serum, preferably under £25? I can't figure out which ones are actually worth the premium despite reading loads of reviews. I want to use it in the morning before moisturiser so under makeup. Thank you!

I use 23% Vitamin C with Ferrulic Acid from Garden of Wisdom, available on Victoria Health website. It's about a tenner. I'm really impressed with it

Have you ever used Vitamin C before? If not, you may want to start with a lower concentration. The Ordinary do a 12% and a 15%, I would start with one of those. And remember to always wear a high factor SPF when you use vit C

Nightlights · 06/10/2018 09:15

Thanks @Lottapianos I was looking at the garden of wisdom one so nice to see a recommendation. I have an spf of 20, is that too low?

And no I haven't used it before! I've just read loads of comments and articles about how great it is and thought I'd give it a go

I want to start using a Vit C serum too after reading Jess Morley in the Guardian raving about it - I didn't realise you had to use an SPF too, so would you use that first, then the serum and then a moisturiser? What SPF do you wear OP?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 06/10/2018 09:21

I recently got one from the inkey list which was a really good price, I think £7.50ish but I can’t quite remember. It’s really good though!

I would personally use a higher SPF than 20, at least 30.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 06/10/2018 09:22

SPF should be applied after everything else. So serum, moisturise, then SPF on top.

Nightlights · 06/10/2018 09:23

I just use a moisturiser with spf but sounds like I need to upgrade on that too, I've never had one higher than 20

Thanks @SpuriouserAndSpuriouser, I'll check that out!

Superdrug
It isn’t an expensive ingredient and if you look at the likes of drunk elephant etc all the formulations are quite similar so you are unlikely to need an expensive one.
They don’t last long though are are best kept in the fridge. The packaging is probably the most important as you don’t want air getting in.

Lottapianos · 06/10/2018 09:27

I use No 7 Protect and Perfect SPF 30

Nightlights · 06/10/2018 15:09

Anyone tried the BalanceMe serum?

Environ Is good bit expensive (£42)

I use the Una Brennan Superfacialist one. It's frequently on offer at Boots and it's absolutely lovely. I wouldn't be without it.

Vit C serum

Bluejeanz · 06/10/2018 22:57

Trying to get my head around Vitamin C, Retinol etc. If you use Vitamin C in the morning, would you still use Hyaluronic Acid? If so, what order does everthing go on once you add in the hyaluronic, and if not, when do you use the hyaluronic? Retinol is evening, isn’t it?

Thanks!

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 07/10/2018 08:21

Best VitC I have used is the Vichy one. It transformed the texture of my face in less than a week. I am evangelical about it. It says it's a 2 week boost thing and lets you think it needs chucking after that but my second bottle lasted for about 7 weeks. It is amazing. I'm on an economy no-buy till Christmas at the mo' but it will be one of the first things I get.
Hyaluronic is a moisture-trapper so as far as I know you can use it whenever you want. (ie it's not an acidy acid iyswim!)

babswindsor · 07/10/2018 08:31

I'v been using the Timeless 20% one, and it has given me fantastic results. But, after you include postage it is nearly £30. I am going to try Garden of Wisdom, thank you for the recommendation.

Lottapianos · 07/10/2018 09:00

Blue, I put Vit C on clean bare skin, then Hyaluronic on top

PyeWackets · 07/10/2018 09:32

I have been using the hero project c serum which is great, just ordered the Garden of Wisdom one after @Lottapianos mentioned it. Thanks for the rec, reviews are good.

CutesyUserName · 07/10/2018 12:25

I like GOW Vit C - good stuff. Little tip - rub the residue into the back of your hands.

Bluejeanz · 07/10/2018 15:02

Thanks Lotta - will look at recommendations and give it a go.

GeeLondon · 08/10/2018 11:33

FYI a lot of them, especially with droppers, are pretty unstable according to Z Obagi. I've also seen this echoed by many cosmetic chemists on insta.

GeeLondon · 08/10/2018 11:35

For this reason I'm now looking into powdered options, any experience with those?

PyeWackets · 09/10/2018 19:22

The GOW is a pump action opaque tube. Turned up today, nice consistency too.

GeeLondon · 09/10/2018 20:56

Airless pump though? I’ve seen good reviews of GOW , timeless and one beginning with M that I cannot remember the name of ! I’m just concerned about the bottles

CaseStudyResearch · 09/10/2018 21:22

I’ve seen great results with texture and brightness using a combination of Superfacialist Vit C and Retinol+.

Both on sale at the moment at Boots.
