Do you wear expensive lipsticks or not?!

Do you think it’s worth spending a bit more and which brands do you recommend?

Since the heady days of Coffee Shimmer, I have always used a ‘colour me beautiful’ lipstick which I really like and lasts me ages, but everyone at work keeps raving about MAC so I thought I’d treat myself! Is it worth a punt? Or are there better makes out there??

Lipstick is my one makeup thing so I have quite a few Chanel, Clinique and Mac lipsticks. I also really rate Rosie for Autograph at M&S.

Lipstick tends to be something I'll wear from any brand. I just go by what colours I like. I have some favourites but the only difference I find is longevity but if I've paid £1 for one I don't mind reapplying it every hour. I must have over 100 ranging from budget to high end.

Not.

A bit of tinted lip gloss now and then.

MAC Twig is my guilty pleasure. Wink

Yes!

I wear MAC mainly but have a couple of Chanel and Tom Ford, which are also lovely.

Yes, and to me YSL and Chanel are worth the markup, Nars probably not. Kiko, NYX, Max Factor and Yves Rocher are my favorite lower cost alternatives.

I usually go for mid range. Mac does have some gorgeous colours. Treat yourself.

Total mix. I have quite a bit of Chanel & Lipstick Queen, but the ones I'm using most at the moment are a Rimmel Kate Moss one & a couple of L'Oreal Color Riche (which last amazingly well & better than any of the high-end ones in terms of staying on!). I definitely go for colour rather than brand.

Mac Ruby Woo is a red like no other. I rarely wear lipstick but when I do is only that colour and make as it's just so awesome.

Although you can still get Heather Shimmer too ;)

I love MAC lipsticks and definitely they think they are worth the money.

I’ve recently bought a few NYX lipsticks and have found them to be amazing and a third of the price.

no, rarely wear it. makes my lips feel sticky and leaves rims on coffee cups and glasses.
DD wears "a red lip" from time to time which makes me corpse with laughter. what, just the one?

I own two Charlotte tilbury lipsticks, I have only ever worn them in the house, I bought them mostly for the packaging

I love MAC twig! I also have some Chanel and Clinique. They're probably the make up I spend most on. I need to check out NYX though.

I dont think MAC are that good quality wise ( well, hit and miss) but they're incredible for the colour range. Charlotte Tilbury lipstick actually cured my chapped lips in a day - better than blister and beautiful, but £££. I also LOVE the chanel ones, but again they cost a bomb.

I like Clinique Pop lip colour & primer lipsticks- my favourite colour is Party Pop, it's about £16.50 & ive had compliments on the colour.

I think you get a better selection of colours with the pricier brands. I love MAC and Tom Ford. The texture is also better. There are so many alternatives to the traditional ‘lipstick’ now that give fantastic colour and coverage. Worth heading to the beauty counters and trying some on with the help of the staff.

I wear mainly red lipstick, with the very occasional hot pink. I really rate Nars Audacious, and their lip crayons, like Charlotte Tilbury, MAC and Chanel, and have one YSL one that I re-purchase. I don’t like Dior, Estée Lauder, or Clinique personally. Budget-wise I have a few Revlon lipsticks which I like.

I don't mean to highjack but how do you get the HOC to last? It's my one and only lipstick (!) and I end up with that horrible liner look where the inside of your lips has faded but the outside is still coloured.

What is HOC? To get my lipstick to last I DO NOT put Balm on first, I sometimes put my facial primer just over my lip line, the same with my foundation, then I apply a lip liner, maybe all over my lips if the colour is a perfect match, then I'll apply my lipstick with a brush (if I can be bothered) then blot, then re apply, blog then one last swipe, usually from the tube!

By HOC do you mean House of Colour! 😂

I am perfectly happy with Rimmel and Boots 17. I used to buy expensive ones but I don't think it's worth it.

I like Laura Mercier - Brown Sugar is a beautiful neutral which lasts well; I think it's worth the cost. Charlotte Tilbury tastes vile IMO

MAC are really worth it. I'm a lipstick addict and have loads but always come back to my vast MAC collection. I prefer the matte formula as I like dense colour with longevity.
