The spanners in the works are I'm 50 and fat (size 20). I know it will be a bit of a mission but MNetters please help.

I'm 5'8" and although have a stomach I'm pretty much in proportion body wise iykwim.

Need top of arms covered. Thought a light colour as it will be summer and I wear a lot of navy for work.

Aiming for sophisticated older woman. However I'm not sure if I have strayed into too safe zone with these dresses.

Really like the back of this dress, not sure about the sleeves

Hides the tum but is it too bling.

Like the back but not as much as no. 1 and is it a bit too floaty?

Too mother of the bride?

Honest opinions and any other suggestions welcomed.

I like all of them but no 2 is my favourite! Its not too bling!

LOvE the first one but I'd but it in navy. I'm in my 40s, and 5'8. In fact I may even get it fora wedding I'm going to!

Last one looks like she's wearing a chiffon poncho over the top of a plain dress

I like the sequin one in that lovely coral colour

Report
brassbrass · 20/04/2017 21:11

agree the coral sequin one is best of the lot.

What colouring are you OP?

Report
MeMyElfandI · 20/04/2017 21:33

I'm a lightest blonde -grey- with blue eyes.

I like navy but the groom and ushers are all wearing navy as well.

Coral I like as well but worried that at a size 20 I will look like a bit of sore thumb in it.

I'm sure you'll look lovely. Sounds like your colouring is perfect for that pink. Order both and return one?

Right it seems that no ones likes the pale grey colour and dress 1 in navy or dress 2 in coral are contenders.

How about these sandals to go with either dress. Come in navy and nude. Or should I go for a closed toe shoe?

nude obviously if you go for the pink but otherwise up to you. I go for comfort these days!

MeMyElfandI · 20/04/2017 22:26

Normally comfort for me these days as well and will have some flats with me but want to look the part if that makes sense.

Just coming out of a bout of depression so a bit unsure and have lost my mojo.

well you may be on the up cos you were on the right track with the dress and shoes so mojo can't be far away!

I like all three, and I like the pale shade - but with your fair colouring, I'd go for coral so that you don't look washed out. Lovely dresses - definitely not mother of the bride - I bet you'll look fantastic!

I prefer the grey. I like the first and last styles, they are very classy and simple.

I think they're all lovely, and I really like the grey. I love those shoes too.

You need to do a load of trying on!

I love the grey! I'd vote no 1 or no 2. Shoes are gorgeous too. I have style envy... if any of my lazy ass friends would get married I'd be nicking that outfit Grin

I think I will order a grey, a navy and a coral dress and do a trying on session. There is free returns.

I have a couple of friends who hopefully will give an honest opinion.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I just didn't want to look matronly which is easily done when you are on the large side.

Next fashion challenge I'll be posting for is the hen weekend. So get your thinking caps on ladies.

1 and 2 are my favourites. The shoes are great. I'm not sure you need any help at all. You have it under control.

Love 1, 2 and 4 I haven't seen this designer before but I think her dresses are amazing and right up my street. Thank you Smile

My sil, a size 18, has number two and it looks absolutely stunning. She bought it in grey, as that's very much her colour. It's a very flattering shape, and as mother-of-the-bride she was far more glamorous than the very slim and fit mother-of-the-groom.

If you light blonde/grey you most likely suit cool colours so the coral won't look right. Pale grey will look very elegant imo :)

LaCerbiatta · 21/04/2017 09:23

Oops changing my mind here. The 'coral' is what I'd call blush pink and not orangey at all. Would probably look great!

Love the top 2 and in the pale grey colour.

Sorry for not being back on until now, at work all day.

Thank you so much for all your views. No 1 seems to be in the lead and to be honest that is my favourite as well. What shoes/sandals if I go for the grey? The ones I linked up the thread only come in navy or nude.

I like 1 and 2. I think I'd go for coloured shoes and bag if you go for the grey.
