Sea spray, with fine hair

WellTidy · 16/07/2016 21:45

I am 41, and have just longer than jaw length mid brown hair. It's very fine, there are some long layers in it. It is kinky, rather than wavy or curly, so I straighten it.

Hairdresser was rough drying it today, and I liked it looking messy. He said to achieve that look, I should buy a salty sea beach type spray.

Any recommendations please, particularly for my hair type? I need to be able to buy it from my large local Boots.

Bumble and bumble do one. And John frieda as well. Can't vouch for them however.

I use a Philip B one which you can get one netaporter. It's ££££ but not too heavy for my ultra fine hair. [https://www.net-a-porter.com/gb/en/product/337480 this one]

I use a Toni and Guy one from boots, it is also travel sized if you just want to try it first which is handy.

I like the Garnier Fructis one (green bottle) and it smells lovely.

Mark Hill - its pretty cheap compared with Bumble & Bumble but it works great on my fine hair.

I use an Schwartzkopf one, very happy with it , very affordable.

Not Lush. It has a gel in it which makes it too stiff.

Davines This Is A Sea Salt Spray. Not cheap, but excellent. With good products, a little goes a long way.

I use a vo5 one and tbh don't notice a huge difference between that and the bumble one. It's salt water at the end of the day. Do you live near the sea?! ;)

I've tried the Toni&Guy and bumble &bumble and they are similar. Both a little sticky. I use the T&G one when my hair is almost dry and seems to create waves when I scrunch it. However my fave is the Label M one which is available from salons ( or cheaper on Amazon). Not sticky at all so you can apply loads and reapply during the day if you want. My hair is also v fine
If you're going to boots I'd start with the T&G one

Am I the only one who found the Bumble & Bumble one really drying? Made my hair feel quite coarse. You want the look seasalt gives, but not the feel!

I agree elspeth, salt spray just makes my hair look dry and coarse and in bad condition. There must be a way to get tousled hair but still shiny and healthy but I haven't found it.

The label m one is lovely, not sticky or dry at all.

The Mark Hill one is lovely too - I think it has other ingredients to make hair softer rather than drier.

I have used the bumble and bumble one and the got2be one. The got2be is loads cheaper and loads better. Bumble and bumble makes your hair feel dry and doesn't hold very well (my hair sounds very similar to yours)

Just seen that someone else has said the same about bumble and bumble

To be fair it's a while since I used the B and B one and formula may have changed.
Another vote for Davines, though. Their products are great.

Thanks for the recommendations. I didn't get to Boots yesterday, so I will go in my lunch hour today.

Is this the got2be one please?

And is this the Mark Hill one? I can see that it has some silky thing in it which will counter the drying nature.

Neitehr are pricey, I may well get both to try.

As an aside , OP, do you know that you can buy from Boots.com and get it deserved to your local Boots the next day for free ?

Yes that's the Got2b one. They're often on special offer in Boots or Superdrug.
